Isles and Devils will probably be active. Should see some more trades too either today or next week once the dominoes settle.
Okposo, Nielsen rumored to be looking elsewhere. Isles supposedly looking at Andrew Ladd. Also some talk they might be willing to take Vanek back provided it's low risk and low term.
Devils need to bring in at least another forward and a defenseman. Some rumors they have checked in on Nielsen and also Matt Martin for a 4th line role too. Okposo and Eriksson probably too high for the Devils liking.
Do Rangers pull off a trade today? Still some Stepan rumblings out there with the Wild if they can't sign one of the forwards in free agency.
Will be interesting to see what Eric Staal does and where he goes.
Who knows the level of truth, but thought I'd share given that it was from a poster who seems to have a very strong track record over there.
Couple NYR points...
All the armchair GM's are hating on him for not making moves, I am hating on him, but not for that reason. He made a big stink about shaking the team up, no one is safe, all that lip service. So now the fan base has completely turned on Nash, Staal, and G, they are going into next year in an uncomfortable position (just wait until one of them takes a penalty, or Nash goes 3 games without scoring-- reality in New York).
Not only that, but we trot out some team that is 95% the same with the only big difference being the Russian. I think that is a great fucking idea, basically put all the pressure on him to be the difference between a shitty team who lost in the first round and a team with a legit cup shot?
At this point, the only way we get rid of Staal or G is if Kreider or Stepan are paired with one of them. I really would love to move one of those contracts but it is not reality. I would rather keep them if it means we trade 20 or 21 for anything besides a giant return. And at this point, what is the point of clearing a bunch of cap room?
This team is too loyal and it ALWAYS FUCKS THEM, as it is now, as it will in a couple years with Hank. Staal and G contracts were insane and should have NEVER been given to them. This team because of Hank, and because they are an NY team, CANNOT REBUILD. We just can't not be competitive. Well in the NHL, that completely fucks you. Us fielding a team with no real shot of the cup is the worst case scenario. It would be better if we blew it up and started again, but with Hank that will NEVER happen.
Here is my grim, grim, grim prediction. We field a similar team next year, maybe finding a Nash trade partner, but no chance we move G or Staal unless it is a buyout. They miss the playoffs and then are faced with a ridiculous crossroads. It is at this point that Hank waves his NMC next offseason to go to a contender, we blow it up and start over. A season and a half too fucking late.
would be the icing on the cake for a career-ending or at least tenure-ending GM role for Bergevin in MTL.
Overpaying an average but not elite forward. Should have just kept Lars Eller.
Some late rumors Devils may still be going after Eriksson.
I'm intrigued where Nielsen goes. He's getting up in age but he reminds of Patty Elias. Such a solid finesse and skill forward he could age better than most.
Rangers are in a tough spot with their group. They've had a terrific five or six year run now.

I heard that about Okposo I also heard Stamkos wanted to "go home" to Toronto, sure there's a money discrepancy in the exchange rate but at 115M vs 110M does it really make a career altering decision?
these guys almost all, like all athletes, will follow the money.
but the Oilers seem like the front-runner.
I'd love Lucic on the Habs, the Bruins games would be nuts, but that seems weird. Almost like if DeSean Jackson played for the Giants.

#RedWings have signed Darren Helm for five years at a $3.85 million cap hit.

what are you doing here???
The all-mighty Rangers have their own FA thread!!! Leave us pee-ons alone!
Ladd cancelled his trip to Detroit today. Good news Islanders fans!
NEW THREAD: RANGERS SIGN 4TH LINER WHO WILL PLAY IN HARTFORD
URGENT!!
This makes the fucking Subban trade more perplexing. Trade out your superstar because of "character issues" and bring in a headache like Radulov?
If the Landeskog rumblings are true, and the Avalanche want to move him (or Duchesne), Snow better be on that.

Montreal has signed Radulov, apparently.

right?
perplexing
Detroit was trying to get Radulov, too. Typically they bring in character guys. Maybe he's changed? who knows.

If COL wants NHL ready talent, that maybe tough.
Islanders have a plethora of A talent prospects, but Roy seems to want to improve the team NOW.

there were no character issues with Subban, dude was the most beloved Canadian athlete in forever, it was a coach/player issue - Therrien did not like Subban's style - and I have hated Therrien forever, but sadly in MTL the coach wins...see Patrick Roy.

But still more work to do. Hopefully Detroit is out on Nielsen now.

Give them Bailey, a 1st and Dal Colle. Bailey is useless and you rid yourself of some money.

had legit interest in Lucic:

Also hearing Wiese back to MTL. pj, I know the Habs want more sandpaper, but hasn't that ship sailed?
they loved Wiese, they traded him because they were out of contention. I hated Wiese.
this team is becoming a lot less likable every day.

You can't take what Roy says today, as what he says tomorrow. He is a different character. He may decide to rebuild with prospects instead.
At least I hope he does.
Noon.
#isles will lose 1,573 games of franchise experience with Okposo, Nielsen and Martin leaving today. Big changes.
Has to mean that Ladd is joining the Isles.
Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie ...Rangers have hired Jeff Beukeboom as assistant coach, Post has learned. Announcement expected today.
Not the 4th line Hartford center buuuuttt our obsession with 94. I thought we'd keep one thread too! Enjoy the madness today, fellas.
Bob McKenzie on TSN: "There's talk Ladd may have gotten a 7-year deal.." Not official, but belief is he'll sign with #NYI.
Again strong likelihood Ladd goes to the Islanders. Okposo to the Sabres and Eriksson to the Canucks. Confirmation will come after paperwork.

7 year deal? No way.
It must be. Right? Right?
Seems like it since Weber was the team captain who had major issues and public comments critical of Radulov when he missed curfew in the playoffs for the preds - and was benched.
Going to miss him, especially in PSs.
Quote:
And Friedman as well; Isles and Fransie parting ways.
Going to miss him, especially in PSs.
And on the PK though I guess Ladd can contribute there.
Hopefully it means a bigger role for Ledddy and Pulock on the power play.
Yea sure. You are so full of shit. If he signed with the Rags for that you would be raising the cup in 2017. Suck it.
years are the price for the discount
Frans is probably going to get over $6M in Detroit
Okposo will make WHO knows what in Buffalo
Yeah it's too long a term but I'd prefer it to Okposo for 7 at 7m.
Quote:
If Ladd gets like 5.5 per for 7 years I'd want nothing to do with that.

Yeah I would rather give AAV over term though. This is backwards for a player like Ladd. I'd rather give him like 6.25 for 4 years (even that's kind of an overpay IMO) than over 5 for 7.
Welcome to Brooklyn?

it's a fit, but... they will need to make a trade.
