Steve Doocy comes across as a real jerk (and he might well could be). But it made me giggle when her chief complaint was that Doocy failed to treat has as "intelligent and insightful female journalist rather than a blond female prop". (As an aside, I think blond might be a gender-specific word, but not for Carlson's gender).
It's he said/she said, but I actually would believe that Ailes came on to her. I wouldn't be surprised though, if the retaliation was more for her coming out in support of gun control rather than her refusing to sleep with him. Also seems odd to me that reporters/entertainers wouldn't include some number of women (or men) willing to sleep their way to prominent slots and, among the Fox ladies, Carlson wouldn't be very high on my list to proposition. Mainly becuase she's pretty freaking old looking and Ailes has tons of power. I'd be shocked if there weren't a dozen other ways for him to sate his creepiness. But, in her day, I think people here are wrong about Miss America not having good candidates her year. She used to be pretty damn hot. I have to admit though, among the Fox ladies I have seen, she is among the least likely that I would have picked to be a Stanford grad.
with infinitesimal exceptions. Nature doesn't need them to reproduce anymore (and by 45-50, a lot physically can't), so it has no reason to keep them physically attractive. Same in the animal world.
Sure, many will cling to youth via extraordinarily expensive surgery and cosmetics (and of course advertisers know their primary market) but it's lipstick on a pig.
Attractive for an older woman, fine. But "hot"? Cmon...
I still don't know exactly why they fired Andrea Tantaros (who's much hotter than Carlson, in my opinion). It's been reported that they canned her because of her support for Donald Trump, but that makes absolutely no sense to me when you consider that O'Reilly, Bolling, and Hannity still have their jobs (to name three).
she and Kiran Chetry we sort of alternating as temporary hosts. Chiran went to Ailes as her contract in negotiations for renewal and demanded that Carlson be fired so that she (Chetry) could be the permanent F7F host. Ailes promptly fired Chetry. She subsequently went to CNN and then, I'm not sure, her career may have fizzled.

Now Andrea Tantaros I can see sexually harassing. She was the hottest on the network and all of cable news, IMO (except that French newscaster chick....although she might be a hundred now herself).
the point was that it was lawsuit over sexual harassment and people made a point of how she didn't look that great.
being the victim of sexual abuse as a child is horrific and tragic. Being fired as an adult, and lodging a sexual harassment complaint against her boss is entirely unrelated. As is how she looks.
I'm just not sure I get your point about how her sexual abuse as a child is part of this story. or are you just offended people would comment on the looks of an adult who was sexually abused as a child.

I think that's an unfair summary. She also said Doocy would put his hand on her to shush her on live TV, shunned her, and belittled her contribution to the show. But really her complaint isnt "Steve Doocy did something legally improper". Rather, her beef on that point is that when she raised the issue with superiors, Ailes called her a "man hater" and "killer" and told her to "get along with the boys" and then limited her ability to high profile stuff like political interviews and to be on O'Reilly's popular show.
The Doocy stuff is an Ailes complaint, not a Doocy complaint. She is suing Ailes only (oddly not FNC).

That's fair. My main chuckle is that she's fooling herself if she thinks that she wasn't a blond(e) prop.
Fox News EVER watch? My guess is no, but I'm eager for honest testimonials.
I watched Fox with some regularity for a number of years, just to get another POV, but sometime in the past 6-12 months their on screen graphics started to make me feel nauseated. Not because of the content, but literally the colors, movement, % screen coverage etc. So I stopped completely.
Fox News EVER watch? My guess is no, but I'm eager for honest testimonials.
I used to as much as anyone (so long as nobody watched after 7 PM. But I haven't watched a single second of them or anyone else since this political season began; no matter where you look, it's too damn disgusting and depressing. I'm practicing extreme avoidance now.
RE: RE: RE: The complaint is hilarious and sad at the same time Â
That's fair. My main chuckle is that she's fooling herself if she thinks that she wasn't a blond(e) prop.
I actually always thought she was pretending to be dumb. Doocy and the brown haired guy who isnt Doocy on the other hand seem genuinely dumb. I dont feel that way about a lot of people on Fox, but I though F&F was literally an exercise in mouth breathing.
I'm with you about the after 7pm line-up. I do watch their news programs and think they do a good job reporting the news. When it comes to the political head-banger lineup (I especially despise Sean Hannity)... no thanks.
It's become painfully obvious a large number of you guys Â

It's a good act or non-act. I find the brown-haired guy (Brian Kilmeade) to be entertaining. It's funny because he's the one who I thought was pretending to be dumb. His stupidity seems schtick to me. Maybe it's because I actually have a fond memory of him because when my kids first started playing, we actually found a weekly TV program about youth soccer, albeit based far away in Long Island. Some instructional stuff, but mainly a show just about kids playing soccer (and soccer was not as cool back then as it is now). Kilmeade was the host.

I would say after 6pm. Brett Baier does an excellent job at 6pm. I also cannot stand Hanity but he admits that he is not reporting the news and is all opinion. I will go one step farther and say that Hanity is not even watchable.

Maybe it's semantics but saying after 7 PM, at least in my original post, included Baier and meant once his show finished.

For simplicity, let's say my politics are Tea Party, and I can't stand Hannity. If I'm watching something on DVR and it ends and my TV is set for Fox and Hannity comes on, I immediately hit "mute" so I don't have to hear his voice until I get something else to watch. And O'Reilly is an insufferable pompous ass. Surrounding himself with hot women and comedians hasn't done anything to make him studly(?) or funny.
RE: It's become painfully obvious a large number of you guys Â
set the bar pretty low and just take what you can get.
That's easy to say when you're in your 20's, and most of us said it. Just remember that 98% of the women you currently find hot would kill to look like Diane Lane when they turn 50.
Fox News EVER watch? My guess is no, but I'm eager for honest testimonials.
Why would anyone choose to make themselves stupid? Cable news is a catastrophe...Fox being the worst example but that's like citing the worst child molester.
Anyone who seriously consumes it with any degree of regularity is either an insipid moron or has a pathetically boring life (possibly both). It's serviceable for breaking news and that's it. And CNN even manages to fuck that up.

I was always curious to know if people with a right tilt find Hannity as unwatchable as I do.
One point of disagreement. I find O'Reilly to be a sufferable pompous ass. There is just something I find likable about him.

Yep. 10 minutes of Hannity is about all I can take. Funny that as little as I watch him, pretty much anytime I do I hear him say exactly the same things giving the same list of criticisms of those he does not like. It would be pretty boring to watch him on a regular basis.

Fair point, but it's tough to avoid it completely after the Rangers get eliminated in the playoffs.

Oh, I'm in my early 30's, but I get what you mean. Come on though, Carlson wouldn't make the cut on the Diane Lane All Stars. Below is Bill Simmons' batting lineup in 2010.
Quote:
1. Jennifer Aniston (40) — I like having a single leadoff hitter with rumbling ovaries. Aggressive and unquestionably desperate. You’d fear her on the basepaths.
2. Sandra Bullock (46) — Cheery veteran, good for the clubhouse, willing to give up at-bats and move runners along to help the team.
3. Heather Graham (40) — Power, OPS, speed, the whole package. It’s almost unfair to the others that she’s eligible. It’s like when Jack Nicklaus joined the PGA Senior Tour.
4. Halle Berry (43) — Perennial MVP candidate, someone you have to see in person to fully appreciate her greatness. Our highest-paid player.
5. Selma Hayek (43) — Fiery Latina, prodigious natural gifts, famous for people gawking at her tape measure … home runs.
6. Catherine Zeta-Jones (40) — She’s our David Ortiz, an aging foreign slugger who’s four or five years older than listed.
7. Kelly Preston (47) — Don’t worry about the creepy Travolta stink on her. She’s still putting up big stats, and the statistical community loves her.
8. Demi Moore (47) — Knows all the chemical shortcuts and can help anyone else who needs advice on surgery or botox.
9. Cheryl Hines (44) — Keeps the team loose, keeps everyone laughing, doesn’t go for her own stats, gives us a hot-selling jersey for our Jewish fans. Can play four positions.
Starting pitcher: Diane Lane (45) — Crafty veteran, namesake of the team, knows every trick in the book. She’s like Jack Morris circa 1991. You want her out there in big games.
Set-up reliever: Maria Bello (42) — Can throw one inning or three, has the highest “nude scene per movie” ratio of any decent actress.
Closer: Cindy Crawford (43) — Still routinely hits 103 on the radar gun.
Coaching staff: Jacqueline Bisset, Julie Christie, Helen Mirren (all in their 60s). Why is it that women with accents retain a level of hotness that American women can’t match?
bits from The Daily Show was when Jon Stewart took Gretchen Carlson to task for making herself seem dumber on air to appear anti-intellectual. "Gretchen Carlson Dumbs Down" - ( New Window )
I'm hot and cold on Aniston. Mostly hot, I supposed but I think she's overplayed. I have always found Heather Graham to be very ordinary (in the context of Hollywood types). Even going back to Boogie Nights; nothing very special there, IMO. Admittedly, I'm way more of a Lauren Graham kind of guy. Demi Moore..yes! But only pre-implant, St Elmo's Fire Demi. Don't think the strip-tease and (omg) JI Jane Demi were particularly attractive. Cheryl Hines looks like she died 10 years ago and nobody told her. A skeleton with jugs. And never thought Maria Bello was all that pretty. But the rest of the list ain't too shabby.

Yes about Hannity. He's unwatchable even if he says something I agree with. I'm pretty much a libertarian socially and conservative economically. I guess that makes me right
As far as OReilly. I don't hate his pomposity. I hate how he pretends to be this superman champion for the little guy while he takes in boatloads of cash. He does do a lot of charity work which I admire but he makes sure he's making his $$$$ to. Like it's not part of his business model.

Interesting comp, except Matthews is more likable (on air -- off air he appears to be a creep). Im not sure anyone on the left on the cable networks is as personally unlikable. If Mika Brzezinski counts as the left, she's the closest I can think of. But I struggle to call her left or center simply because she seems to smugly turn her nose up at everything/everyone.
Carlson’s not the only woman to accuse Ailes of such behavior. One female Fox News contributor, who asked to remain anonymous, said that she had a similar encounter with Ailes.
“He asked me to turn around so he can see my ass,” the contributor said, describing one of her meetings with the chairman.
Another Fox News employee, who likewise asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, said that Ailes told her she could only wear dresses on air. She also described a story that she said Ailes often told about his hiring process for on-camera personalities.
“He always brags to people about how he doesn’t do polling or testing when he chooses his on-air talent. He told me that if he was thinking of hiring a woman, he’d ask himself if he would fuck her, and if he would, then he’d hire her to be on-camera,” the employee said. “He then said if it was a man he’d think about whether he could sit down for a baseball game with him and not get annoyed of him. If he could, then he’d hire him.”
We get a quarterly magazine for the professional society that I belong to, and in this issue they had a 2015 In Memorium for members. I personally knew 5 or 6, about 33%, including one who was a colleague who was only a couple years ahead of me when we started out (we had lost touch). Do you know how weird that is? Geez, I'm getting old.

I thought her days at Fox might be numbered when she backed an "assault weapon" ban shortly after the Orlando attack.
Actually it says she was fired from Fox and Friends a few years ago. I remember when that happened and they brought on Elizabeth Hasslebeck. I though Carlson was getting her own show and that was a promotion. I remember her seeming to be very happy. I guess you never know. Hasslebeck left too, I wonder if Doocy is really a jerk.
They "report" what a certain segment of the population wants to hear. What would they do if the GOP controlled the WH and Congress?
What would they do? I guess they'd still hire hot anchor ladies. As to what they would report, they were around through the Bush years, so you should already know the answer to that

She got sick IIRC some type of cancer
Carlson is no longer "hot". But Fox News clearly does a nice job Â
As to Hannity and the others...I am Republican all the way but feel Fox goes to far with their opinions trying to squash the other networks being to far left. Call it a draw although the Right is outnumbered.
I do like O'Riley though because he is balanced and at least lets the Left come on and debate him. I also like how he bashed people that have no business talking politics.
Hannity is to wrapped up in the flag to be consistently watchable...
If true Ailes almost sounds like he was pulling a Louis C.K routine Â
Too much self-promotion, too much blowing his own horn. I never cared for Hannity, even before his Fox gig, when he was on the radio. Too abrasive. The only Fox show I watch regularly is Special Report with Bret Baer. I probably watch more MSNBC than Fox, lol. I like to see what the opposition is up to. I also find myself gravitating more towards Fox Business these days. Stuart Varney kills me. Love the guy.

Like Sheppard. Bret is great. Varney is to. Watch morning Joe. The rest on MSNBC isn't worth watching IMHO. Same goes for Fox. The other 2 are never turned on.
Except for morning Joe,(and that's till 6:30 when I have to take the dog down to the kennel and feed the other animals) the rest are if I happen to be in the house and have the TV on in the bed room because the wife rules the rest of the house. She is handicapped and cuts me no slack.
Yeah. I've been brainwashed since I was 13, and quit the Teen-Age Republicans to join the Young Americans for Freedom because I refused to support Jacob Javits for re-election.
"oh I like this on Fox and this on MSNBC and this on KOS or this on Drudge".
It's making you stupid.
Moreover, if you willingly and consistently consume the backwash dregs of American media, you have forfeited your right to complain about the state of affairs in Washington DC. You are part of the problem. "We have met the enemy..."
Expect better of yourselves. It's less about bias and point of view than it is about intelligence and substance. I can proffer some angles, but they should be fairly obvious if you care to try.
Or get lazy and coast. No doubt a less onerous course.

Understand the point, but don't just presume everybody in America is brain-washed because of the news channel they watch or editorial columns they read.
Some of us actually can sift thru the knucklehead stuff, and can complain about the state of affairs in Wash DC just fine.
In recent days, more than a dozen women have contacted Carlson’s New Jersey-based attorney, Nancy Erika Smith, and made detailed allegations of sexual harassment by Ailes over a 25-year period, dating back to the 1960s, when he was a producer on The Mike Douglas Show. “These are women who have never told these stories until now,” Smith told me. “Some are in a lot of pain.” Taken together, these stories portray Ailes as a boss who spoke openly of expecting women to perform sexual favors in exchange for job opportunities.
Six of the women agreed to speak with New York publicly for the first time. Two spoke on the record; the others requested anonymity for reasons that include shame and fear of retribution. “I didn’t tell my husband, it was so mortifying,” said Marsha Callahan, a former model who says Ailes harassed her in the late ’60s, shortly before he would become Richard Nixon’s media adviser
to posit that cable news and similar outlets on blogs, on radio are poisonous dogshit and should be avoided by serious people? If so, then I proudly don that label. Thank you for the compliment, Bill.
Again, it's less about "is this biased?" than "is this thoughtful? Is it substantive?"
George Will is a smart, thoughtful, worthwhile conservative voice. Ditto Brian Lehrer on the left. Buckley a giant in American political thought, his politics secondary. Ditto Hofstadter.
Generally speaking one is better off reading rather than watching his news. Salient exception would be the Sunday shows - sometimes hit or miss but one of the few sources able to challenge to their face politicians' spin/message.
In print:
The Atlantic
Financial Times
Foreign Affairs (indispensable)
The Economist
Christian Science Monitor, despite the absurd moniker
WSJ/NYT/WaPo, each with their own bias but overall high quality publications that are beneficially absorbed together.
Barely Legal

So there ya go. Not an exhaustive list, but a start. Merely by turning off cable news and avoiding the shitty blogs, you've already set yourself on a course to self-improvement. Good luck.
swirling that Ailes may be canned by Murdoch. If true then the sexual harassment stuff likely has to be true/with merit right? Would he really dump him for a baseless claim?

I'm done with this, if you find it stupid, you can make sure everyone knows it (as you have).
have a nice day.
Andrea Tantaros...really?
And from a day or two ago...Molly Pan???
If you want hot, check out M. Buble's wife (proving there's no justice in the world).

I actually always thought she was pretending to be dumb. Doocy and the brown haired guy who isnt Doocy on the other hand seem genuinely dumb. I dont feel that way about a lot of people on Fox, but I though F&F was literally an exercise in mouth breathing.
I would say after 6pm. Brett Baier does an excellent job at 6pm. I also cannot stand Hanity but he admits that he is not reporting the news and is all opinion. I will go one step farther and say that Hanity is not even watchable.
Yes. As opposed to virgins.

I'm with you about the after 7pm line-up. I do watch their news programs and think they do a good job reporting the news. When it comes to the political head-banger lineup (I especially despise Sean Hannity)... no thanks.

She could have the most exquisite thumbs on earth, but she looks like Nancy Grace. PASS!!!!!!!
That's easy to say when you're in your 20's, and most of us said it. Just remember that 98% of the women you currently find hot would kill to look like Diane Lane when they turn 50.

Fair point, but it's tough to avoid it completely after the Rangers get eliminated in the playoffs.

set the bar pretty low and just take what you can get.

Oh, I'm in my early 30's, but I get what you mean. Come on though, Carlson wouldn't make the cut on the Diane Lane All Stars. Below is Bill Simmons' batting lineup in 2010.
"Gretchen Carlson Dumbs Down" - ( New Window )
But as to the OP - I never thought she was THAT hot to begin with.

Totally agree.

Some, the reports by news anchors are OK. Any commentary, including the morning shows are a joke. They know their audience and play to it very well.
Yup, that's Fox
Let the fun and games begin.

Blame? Hell no. I'm just saying they're going to go to town with it.
(If I had to vote for one of Fox's anchor ladies, put me down for Julie Banderas. Gorgeous ... feet.)

I honestly did not know that Rex Ryan posted on BBI!?
The worst is Hannity. I detest him.

Quentin Tarantino baby, but off topic.
I notice a lot of those Fox anchors look very similar. I don't know if it's a political statement or Ailes' own tastes.
Personally, I do find Matthews extremely unlikeable. I find Olbermann to be detestable. I hate Eleanor Cllift with a passion.

Olbermann and Hannity are fair comps, but Olbermann lost his shows for being a huge douche.
And LOL for watching the McLaughlin Group. What are you, 90 years old?

Sorry to hear it.
Pretty women, bright colors, snappy graphics, lots of pictures...
Mika is dreadful. She just parrots everything her on air husband Scarborough says. It's nauseating at times.

Carlson’s not the only woman to accuse Ailes of such behavior. One female Fox News contributor, who asked to remain anonymous, said that she had a similar encounter with Ailes.

wow.

As to Hannity and the others...I am Republican all the way but feel Fox goes to far with their opinions trying to squash the other networks being to far left. Call it a draw although the Right is outnumbered.
I do like O'Riley though because he is balanced and at least lets the Left come on and debate him. I also like how he bashed people that have no business talking politics.
Hannity is to wrapped up in the flag to be consistently watchable...
No doubt a less onerous course.
fixed it. That's why you have to read several different stories with different views and figure it out for yourself.

Understand the point, but don't just presume everybody in America is brain-washed because of the news channel they watch or editorial columns they read.
Some of us actually can sift thru the knucklehead stuff, and can complain about the state of affairs in Wash DC just fine.
proffer away if you must...

So there ya go. Not an exhaustive list, but a start. Merely by turning off cable news and avoiding the shitty blogs, you've already set yourself on a course to self-improvement. Good luck.
And sometimes it all takes a back seat to being first, accuracy be damned.
