If Eli was at the end of his career (1 or 2 years left as an example). This is draft day and the next franchise QB is on the board. A guy who is a blue chip prospect and we have a chance to trade OBJ for that draft slot.... would you do it?
between Eric and BBI, and the rest of Giants fan websitedom, they all kinda worship the stupid.
To me OBJ is a generational impact talent. You need adequate Offensive linemen, not pro-bowlers. The idea of giving the Cowboys OBJ for two pro-bowl lineman, well, it just doesn't pass the smell test for me, it makes me ill. I'll go a step further. I'd rather keep what we have than make that trade.

Eric -- I think that's a different question -- a "franchise" QB might be the most important position on the team. the question here is whether having 2 pro bowl linemen is better than having OBJ
1st of all OBJ has shown himself, in only 2 seasons, to clearly have the potential to be a top 5 all time historic WR. He has the drive to match the talent, likely the brains, and Eli says he's still improving.
Smith and Martin are good players, very good players, but Smith has struggled with JPP in years' past and supposedly got beat like a drum by OV last year. Smith isn't the 2nd coming of Ogden, Munoz, Walter Jones, or Jimbo Parker...
Martin is an OG and you can get OGs as good as Martin in FA.
I expect John Jerry to be as good as Matin this year...
(Ducks)
OBJ is a generational talent at least. Maybe even the next Giant to end up a legend at his position like LT. Can't wait to see what he can do with Cruz and Shepard along side him.
I wish terribly that the Giants run blocking was better, but the truth of the matter is that the league, and the Giants offense, has shifted -- there is a huge focus on getting the ball out of the QB's hands quickly.
There will always be a place for a blue chip O-Lineman, no doubt, but if you're making me choose, give me a top 5 in the NFL pass catcher every single time.
JJ Watt plus Kahlil Mack and I'm running to sign off on it.
But the Giants missed their chance for Watt in the draft that year. Theinute he slid past pick 8 they should have been on the phone trying to trade up for him.
But they listened to JonC instead of me...
Only if it got you to stop creating a thousand threads a day.
Beckham is a game-breaking, game-changing WR who legitimately has the skillset to put up GOAT numbers if he's able to stay healthy. Finding a talent like that is so difficult and so rare.
The Giants would have been a 3 win team without him last year.
and gaining those 2 still make this an average team. Without hem and with Beckham we can be an above average team who can possibly score enough to be dangerous.
Supports his narrative and ignores that which does not. Starting with the Steelers 4 championships of the 70 s there have been some pretty dominating receivers on championship teams.
Cowherd will also state the league is different, it s about the passing game now, but in the next sentence make a ridiculous comment that receivers are. T difference makers
Too we. Play, Ingram. Baker, Tyree, they all made a pretty big difference.
Cowherd has basically disappeared from view, let go by ESPN because he was not a difference maker.
His original trade of WR for other players was "Dez Bryant for a pass rusher and a cover CB." Which might make sense for the Cowboys, and certainly should hint that he likes the Giants FA additions of jackrabbit and OV.
Anyway the really funny thing is Ed V agreed with him the OBJ for Smith and Martin. That's just pathetic...
Beckham is on pace to be the best WR in franchise history. Smith is no Anthony Munoz, and Martin is no Larry Allen. Only a fool would consider trading a player whose first 2 seasons has eclipsed the productivity of any WR in NFL history.
There's no WAR type stat in football like there is in baseball, but the difference between OBJ and the average replacement for him is vastly greater than the difference between those 2 linemen and the average replacement guys available.
The 2 players for 1 does make it a more interesting question...but still wouldn't do it
that this would be a good trade are like football hipsters. Yeah man, good linemen are better than good skill position players. I'm so throwback and edgy. It's like hockey fans that can't get over that toughness is not the most important aspect of hockey anymore.
Has not been on a good team yet, I would like to see how he would perform in the big game before I crown him or trade him.
Huh? Why would OBJ not produce in "the big game"? Is this a joke? So, if he puts up his usual unbelievable stats, helps the Giants to a Super Bowl, and has a mediocre game, he's not any good and you'd trade him? Do you really think there's a chance that he's only good on bad teams? There's literally zero chance of that.
OBJ would make an average QB much better. So Eli's replacement, if not a franchise guy or while learning the ropes or a vet FA will be able to accomplish something.
I'd think about it, that's arguably the best OL in the league in terms of talent.
But Odell looks like a special talent, a rarer asset than a very good Pro Bowl LT/RG combo. His first two years have been tremendous. He is a HOF #3 hitter and perennial Gold Glover. You don't trade those guys unless it's for something ridiculous. Smith and Martin isn't it.
Not! OBJ Is a total game changer. He's the only offensive weapon we had for two years and still dominated. If you said Willie Roaf, Steve Hutchinson and Kevin Mawae all in their primes, I'd consider it. But he's so good it would be like asking what would it take for you to trade away Jerry Rice.
Martin's rookie year they won the NFC East 12-4 behind a career year by RB Murray and agreat year by Romo, where he was asked to do less because of their running game.
The beat the Lions Round 1 of the playoffs but were knocked out by the Pack week two in the divisional round. The win over the Lions hinged on a controversial call by the refs in Dallas's favor.
My first reaction too.

NO-WAY, JOSE'

Most don't remember because the LTs were average. Everyone remembers the WR. Wonder why?

Oh, and yes!

Cruz/Nicks.
Who was more important?
I really want to understand what this says but I can't. It's frustrating really.

Lol. Because we don't have a good OL. Way to pay attention.

Especially if that good OL plays both ways, eh?
