Can we really expect him to come in and be an NFL player?
I'd love for a surprise story, a guy who just surprises and is a redzone threat due to his size.
I won't be able to watch but I look forward to any thread comments.
Expect him to come in and be an NFL player? No... but root like heck for the kid, absolutely. He clearly has some talent, whether or not it translates to the NFL remains to be seen.

Oh yeah, I'm going to root for him for sure. How can you now. He looks like an animal who really wants it.
My hope is that if he does have NFL talent that at least for this year it can be used in the redzone. He is big and can fight. He can learn the NFL this year while being a factor in redzone offense maybe?
against our own players. You guys look down the road to nowhere. Like you said he is 28. Play now... today against other teams. Not Practice squad!
He has great physical ability and looks like a man amongst boys going up for the ball. Or so I've read. He is 28. We need a redzone guy, a guy that is able to use his body and hands to just steal away any ball that comes his way. Lets hope he shines in camp and becomes a redzone threat.
I don't see him as a 4th wideout or anything, just possibly our 5th WR for the redzone. But as others have noted, I would not be surprised if he were put on the practice squad. Those that think he would no clear waivers, well, I just don't see anyone going after him due to his age. And if he shines in camp he makes the team. If he is average due to learning curve issues he goes to PS. Injuries hit, he moves up. That is how I see it.
B^3 Kratch mentioned that indeed he will have to clear waivers. Â
But speculated that cutting Dable at the last possible date would make it highly unlikely any team would sign him to their 53. He's just too green.
The team and beat writers have had very, very little to say about him too. Whether that is by order from the top brass or by the fact he simply hasn't stood out at all who can say. But I smell a PS guy.
Meanwhile Davis is getting chatted up, for those looking for big bodied red zone receiving specialists. Davis could end up the 4th WR in, or even the 3rd pending Cruz's health and how many snaps Mac is willing to give Harris, who they won't want to wear out from his STs roles.
Davis was Schmelks' pick for break out second year palyer in 2016.
Oh wait a minute. They are standing still.
Forget I said anything.

New PS rule this year. You can bet that's where he's headed, barring a shocking training camp and pre season performance.

I think the rule has been on the books for a couple of years. Maybe it would have been an option for B.Jones last year, if he hadn't been injured.
As I understand the rule, though, the player still needs to clear waivers before he can join the practice squad. So it's not a totally risk-free move.
