The opportunity to go to the game has popped up. I'm pretty excited about it, but also questioning the safety of going to a huge venue with all the stuff going on right now. I don't want to cave to fear, but also worried about how much I'll be able to enjoy myself.
Anyone else going or decided to cancel because of all the crap going on? Thoughts on safety?
I believe that London is one of the safest cities in Europe.
Enjoy the trip.
I think your day to day lives are going to change. One asshole and truck showed that.
And, then when staring me in the face, I stumbled the same way.

100 people die every day from car accidents in the US. Don't travel by car?

You may be safe or in grave danger. But how would you know?
Nothing anyone says on BBI will convince you one way or the other. Go or don't ... but if you do, have fun and most important, get us a win. Because if the Giants lose and you're there? We're holding you responsible.

Part of the goal is to harm economy and this kind of thinking accomplishes that goal. That said, my wife wants no part of Europe either
Well said.
I'll give you an example. A couple weeks ago, I was fishing with 5 buddies at the beach. Guy pulls in a shark and threw it back in the water. Immediately, a woman came up to him screaming that she's going to call the police for child endangerment. That you can't throw a shark back into the water. Buddy tells her to make the call - it will be the biggest chuckle the police get all day. Her husband comes over and tells us that we are drawing the sharks to the beach and he's going to have us cited. People are absolutely clueless about their bubbles of a world. If you've spent anytime in the surf, you've no doubt been within 10 feet of sharks, rays, jellyfish, etc. probably 70% of the time you've swum.
But fear causes us to think irrationally. The beach is probably more dangerous than the threat of terrorism, but both shouldn't be any reason to change your behavior. Just be alert to your surroundings. That's the best advice.
We were fishing in Surfside Beach and lady called the police after my son released a sand shark. A cop stopped and I told him we were not targeting sharks. He said, "please work with me here, that lady is going nuts and won't let her kids swim." We took a break for lunch and then resumed fishing.
I hooked in to a big stingray a couple of weeks on LBI. I got it to the edge of the surf and cut the line. It took me about 20 minutes to get it to shore. The tail was very long and it looked a little creepy. There were several people who wouldn't go back in the water until they thought it moved on.
People are stupid.
They won't cite you for fishing since they can't prove you're intentionally trying to catch sharks.
But the way I look at it is this: if you had a friend from England and he told you he was worried about safety in the USA because of all the mass shootings, what would you tell him?
I have had zero problems and I think the planes are incredibly safe. As far as I can tell, there is zero tension between white and non white Islamic people's in Paris. In fact, the Arabic guys who work at cafes are way nicer than the French people, who can be incredibly rude if your French is not good.
Based on my experience, a lot of what we read in the papers is overblown. I think overall Europe is way safer than we are in The US if you factor in crime. Just be smart and don't go to any mass celebrations. My GF wanted to watch the Badtille Day celebrations and I said no fucking way. It is possible an NFL game could be a target but security is going to be so high. Just be smart and I think there is very little to worry about

Maybe just maybe the prices are affected by other tourists than just the Americans.

I just checked and Europeans account for almost 88% of tourism in France. The US? Only 6%. This number was from 2012. But the growing tourism in 2016 has come from the Chinese and Russians.
I'm not being a d*ck. It just sounded like you meant that the Americans staying home is the biggest reason the prices drop.

Prices are the lowest in 30 years because Americans are staying at home.

I was assuming Americans staying at home was the biggest factor. But maybe that is not the case, though that is what everyone herein Paris is saying. In any event, I got a room on Rue Lepic half way up Montmarte for 65$ per night. With AC. Which is good since it is hot as heck here. That's less than it would cost to stay at a Super 8 in Indiana.
BTW, thanks for the info a while back on Copenhagen. Great city. I really loved it. Did the harbor bike ride. National Gallery. IKronberg Castle. A lot of great cafes. Even the chains like Coffee and Industry were very pleasant. Also amazed at how well people in Norway and Dnmark speak Englsh.
You can't live your life in fear. That's what they want.
Hopefully that train isn't headed to London for the NFL game.
A "massive pussy"? What an ignorant comment. His fear is legitimate and he's asking a question. At least he's not canonizing a man who won less than 40% of his games over the past three years.

And I let my 19 year old travel to Germany alone this week as he's with a childhood friend and her family. Warms my heart that another asshole attacked people on a train in Germany. Where that county has been over run. But ok. I suggest you go to your nearest inner city high crime area and walk around at night. As your odd of getting killed there are most likely less than driving right?

You're more likely to be injured in plane crash in route. When people like you stop living your life, you hand the terrorists victory.

WTF does one have to do with the other.
Even on a thread about foreign security this fuckstick finds a way to get in a rip against Eli.

I was not referencing Eli in the least - I love Eli and have never posted anything negative about him, ever. Pay attention to AP's mancrush obsession - it's TC.
But by all means, resort to name-calling. It's certainly a sign of high intelligence.
Let's string the bastard up.
We might as well throw dirt on Tom Landry's grave for the end of his career too.

No, but we should acknowledge that the end of his career was, in fact, the end of his career.
My point stands. Don't hand the terrorists victory. What that has to do Coughlin I have no clue. Perhaps you're the one with issues?

But he's not. Don't be a massive pussy about it.
Thats just simply untrue if you factor in car accidents and what not. Where did you get that figure?
Wait, dont answer that Barilko.
Here is a good crime comparison with a place in the US i assume youvhave been to.
Unlike Barilko, I bring actual facts to the table. Based on these facts, London is a safer place than NYC. Hiwever, the terror attacks that have happened in Europe these last few months, that addsan ex factor that cannot be quantified. I get the impression that the British are tough to attack becausewe dont hear about them getting nailed. I think you have little to worry about. Unless you are worried about going to a city that has roughly a fifth the crime of NYC per capita. But Barilko's statement is just thoughtless.

What X factor that can't be quantified? Bringing inner-city violence statistics and whatnot into the discussion is ridiculous.
Over the past 18 months, France has been subjected to a few terrorist attacks. In the November Paris attacks, there was a soccer match between France and Germany. No bombs or violence went off inside the stadium, despite attackers trying to get in (supposedly). To think an attack will happen specifically because of this event is being irrationally cautious. The decision should come down to "do you think an attack will happen on this particular night?" The game should have no bearing on the probability of that happening.

Huh? Unless youre being deliberately dismissive, the poster asked if it was safe. Barilko stated you have a better chance of having your plane crash land than having a problem which is categorically untrue based on the crime numbers. I pointed out the crime facts because, beleive it or not, victims of crime include tourists. I then made the x factor comment because their are terror attacks happening in Europe and the US yet England has not been a victim...yet.
How was what I said so ridiculous? If a Londoner was planning a trip to Chicago, dont you think the murder rate should be a concern?
Bingo
