NFL DRAFT REPORT-ROMEO OKWARA FEATURE

nflscouting : 7/19/2016 8:49 am
Big Blue readers, I forgot about this Fighting Irish sack artist. If you read my "Five For Fighting" Series, please scroll down past the Ryan Malleck feature for my report on Okwara. Sorry about the omission, but I think he's at least a valid practice squad candidate as he readjusts to playing in the second level.
The link to the original story, with the Okwara addition can be found here;

OR, you can just go to his separate article here;

Dave-Te': Are you sure about the move to linebacker?

Giants.com and BBI both list him as an end, and his measurables scream DE. Maybe it's a distinction without much of a difference, if he's bascially an extra pass-rusher whether his hand is in the dirt or not.
Akwara is definately a Linebacker

He is listed incorrectly. His weight is around 240-250. He can run and is physical.
I dunno. Ishaq Williams looks more like a 'tweener LB to me.

Okwara sure looks like a 4-3 DE, and Jordan Raanan consistently referred to him as one in his spring coverage.
If Williams and Okwara both look good, we are blessed

Hoping for the best. That is all you can do but hope a few UDFA's pan out. If they make the PS even and practice well and show that if injuries hit they could "hold the fort" I'd be psyched.

Occasionally, UDFA's become studs: RB Ivory, OC O'Hara, WR Cruz. I would not be shocked if a tweener UDFA made the active roster. It isn't like we are super deep depth talented.

I also would not be shocked if McAdoo cut veterans like LB Brinkley and LB Sheppard in the final round and kept a UDFA that he didn't want to expose to waivers. Nothing would shock me.

Also, since this is a UDFA thread, would anyone be surprised if FB / DL Whitlock made the team as a specialist pass rusher? Not me. He flashed last year in spots but was smaller. He has bulked up to 250 pounds now. Not sure if that cost him quickness.

My point is that I just hope these young, cheap guys pan out. If one or two become studs then we are blessed.

So he's lost 15-25 pounds since the Combine? Is he on the Leonard Floyd diet?
Giants depth chart
nflscouting : 7/19/2016 2:07 pm : link
According to the chart I see listed at the league HQ on July 15, Okwara was listed third at SOLB with Kennard & Herzlich ahead & Williams was fourth at RDE behind Vernon, Pierre-Paul & Mike Rose. As for computer links, bear with it guys. I'm no computer genius & not about to become one, cool? Thanks for the computer tip, but honestly, as the saying goes - old dog/new tricks. I'm the old dog

While I love LB Herzlich's "character, smarts and special teams play" he isn't much of a LB, except for against the run at him (not away, he isn't chasing well...).

So Okwara can 'surprise" and show he has potential, well, that would be great.
Klatuu what are you here for ?
Elite Mobster #32 : 7/20/2016 10:14 am : link
Oh that's right, you run the scale department. These weights are all accurate. Okwara is a Linebacker in my point of view.

Well, one of the things I'm here for is to expose the pinheads who can't spell my name correctly...like you.

Now, Giants.com has Okwara listed as 275. BBI has him listed as 265, which was his weight at the Combine. NFL.com has him listed as 258.

Where you got 240-250 is anybody's guess. Care to enlighten us?
Bump for the Effete Monster.
