What's BBI's opinion of Jay Bromley?

OdellBeckhamJr : 7/20/2016 8:37 am
I'll admit, I have a hard time judging DL play unless they're extremely disruptive/elite. It seems like he did okay filling in for Hankins last year, what do you guys think?

I have nothing but the highest regard for Bellichick

And the Super Bowl games do not nearly tell the whole story, but I often think that our XXV victory is misunderstood as time goes on. I know BB's game plan is in the hall of fame, but we did give up 19 points in 19 minutes. It was the brilliant plan by Parcells to grind the game out with ball possession that was the tactic that most influenced the outcome. Ironically, too, our defense was fortunate in the first super bowl only to have given up 10 points in the first half--Denver drove down twice and there was a missed FG and a goal line stand. The defense bailed itself out, but Elway and co. was moving effectively in the first half. Now, of course, the defensive effort that was BB's masterpiece was the two games in 90 against the niners, the way he could stop that offense with those weapons was crazy, giving up 7 and 13 points respectively on the road. Having both those quality coaches on our staff was something we might never see again (and we were doubly fortunate since in the 50s we had Lombardi and Landry running the offense and defense).

Sorry
Bromley made strides last season...

...and is going to be the 3rd DT and an important piece on the interior. If he can continue his development and the unit stays healthy we'll be very tough at that position this season
continue to lmao

about this idea that we can't possibly evaluate Bromley. he's played plenty and why is it not fair to evaluate those snaps? He's done nothing. he has not developed, he's gotten worse IMO.

Fans are on the same scholarship mindset some of these players are. let's give the guy 2 years of showing jackshit before we even begin to evaluate him. Such BS.
He should have a big advantage this year
Joey in VA : 7/20/2016 3:45 pm : link
Opponents were fresh as a daisy after slapping around Cullen Jenkins and Markus Kuhn. With the front four we have now, a guy like Bromley coming in fresh SHOULD be able to get some heat inside with limited snaps. OL are going to have their hands full with 670lbs of beef inside and JPP and OV outside, this is Bromley's shot to really make a mark as a pass rush specialist inside. Hoping he does, we need our depth on the DL to chip in and keep the horses fresh.

Makes sense, doesn't hurt to face "wore down" OL. Bromley's body of work is "average at best" to date and we likely won't know what we truly have with him until this year's camp ends and we see him in game 1,2,3 or thereabouts. If he isn't doing well early in year #3 of his career, year #2 of this defense then we will know we need to draft a DT again next year as well as likely go after UFA's.

Bromley does appear to have a good work ethic so I'm hopeful.

Yeah, I agree. To say he "got worse" is just not right.

Again, I think we'll know what we have with him by the time camp ends and certainly after the first few games. I like his work ethic and attitutde and that is always a good sign for the future of a player. He now knows the defense and has been in off-season workout programs and so forth so it is this year or bust.
Jenkins was a good player

Jenkins was 34 last year, I believe, and just didn't have much left in the gas tank. I think the only reason he stuck was we had no one else! How sad is that.

I was just looking at the roster and recall a "projected roster" article with DT Louis Nix listed as our #4 DT.

I'm not sure what DT Nix's upside is at this point. No idea really. He was on the team last year so at least he had an opportunity to learn the defense a bit.

But I couldn't help but think I wish we had a veteran DT, a guy who has started some and could be serviceable if he was forced to start due to injury. I don't believe Nix has much of any real experience. At least DT Bromley has played some snaps and knows the defense.

Nix is another third rounder DT. Texans pick. 1 tech as far as I can tell. Projected as 1-2 round pick. Big middle guy. 6'2'' 330.

I hope Nix is the goods and develops. As I noted, he was on the team last year and now again this year so he knows the defensive scheme. He is a big man and we need that.

I like montori hughes backing up Snacks...let him battle Lewis the rookie for backup NT.
Nix despite his size is better 3T.....let him battle JB for the backup 3T. May the best man win

Okay, so you don't like Bromley. Fine. You're entitled to your opinion.

But what has Louis Nix done to make you declare that he's a better 3-tech than Bromley? If Bromley hasn't done much since he was drafted, next to Nix he looks like Aaron Donald.
Usually DTs
mrvax : 7/21/2016 11:54 am : link
take 1-2 years to develop. This should be the year where Bromley makes plays. If not, the Giants should not wait to replace him.

Giants tend to hold onto higher draft picks that suck.

That said, I hope Bromley kicks ass!

to find out if a guy can play or not, that's not a good sign. He either makes, tackles, creates pressure, bats down passes, does something that you might remember after the game is over. Absolute reach pick in the 3rd round who has developed into a decent backup. Awesome.

As I recall when he was drafted, he wasn't really a "reach" but he did need work on his technique.

Most DL's and OL's that need "technique work" and "experience" blossom in their 3rd year after learning. We will know about Bromley this camp. If we see positive write-ups, some matchup wins in pre-season games where he clearly beats his man, we know we have a player. If it is all quiet about him than we know we have a guy who is only good for likely handling some snaps here and there for backup duty.

I'm hoping he becomes solid. A guy who if he started could hold the fort at least and not cause a major letdown. A guy a team couldn't focus on and attack as a weak link. My bet is this hardworking character guy improves by leaps and bounds this year. He played a lot last year, stayed healthy and now knows the defense cold. Lets hope he blossoms.

I think he replaces Snacks on 3rd and long. That is what we need and want.

I meant Nix is a better 3T than NT. He said as much after we picked him up from HOU, OBrien was misusing him at NT.
The battle for the backup 3T behind Hank should be Brom vs Nix. Best man win.

You know, if Nix was mis-used by another team and we got him and use him to his talents, he could surprise and be our #3 DT. He is a big guy, was highly touted out of college, has some experience and knows our defense since he was with us last year.

The DT battle should be interesting. I hope both Nix and Bromley show so well that they could potentially be starters for other teams. Remember, Hankins is also a UFA after this year so if both of these guys show starting ability....we would be blessed.

Did he really say that, because if he did, I couldn't find it. I did find some things O'Brien said about him and they weren't pretty. Nix did say it had been a while since he played in a 4-3. At Notre Dame, he played primarily the 0-tech in their 3-4, but occasionally they'd go to a 4-3, and when they did he played the 1-tech.

Why was he a reach, because you never heard of him? Because a bunch of draft gurus said so? Would they be same gurus who had a 1st Round grade on Louis Nix?

Well, Corey Chavous at DraftNasty.com had a 3rd Round grade on Bromley, and that's good enough for me.
