OBJ GQ Interview - Dousing more gasoline on Norman

David in LA : 7/20/2016 2:45 pm
Quote:
OBJ said he "for sure" thinks Norman signed with the Redskins in April so that he could be guaranteed of at least two matchups against OBJ every season. OBJ said he sees it as a "smart business move" on Norman's part and says it will help keep Norman "relevant."

"If I wasn't playing him twice a year, maybe people wouldn't bring it up as much," he told GQ. "But now it'll be a lot more media attention for him, attention that I don't really look for, attention I don't really need. The reason that he's become so relevant is because of me."

While I think OBJ is going to turn Norman inside out,
Ben in Tampa : 7/20/2016 2:56 pm : link
and that last second Touchdown and subsequent celebration in the Carolina game was the most emasculating thing I've seen in the NFL in a long time, it'd be best if Beckham just drops this.

ESPN and NFL Network won't be able to contain themselves with this story, it's going to turn into a huge circus on Redskins weeks.
He really didn't even need to mention this
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/20/2016 2:57 pm : link
I wish he didn't. Clearly he doesn't like the guy and that's fine, but he's now put himself in a box where he HAS to torch him when they play, and it gives off the appearance that he's even still thinking about Norman.
OBJ needs to let his play speak for itself when it comes to Norman
Greg from LI : 7/20/2016 2:58 pm : link
Embarrass him on the field, and THEN do the talking. Until he dominates Norman on the field in a game the Giants win, he's never going to come off well in this.
He's not wrong, but I hope
bceagle05 : 7/20/2016 2:59 pm : link
the Giants have a better team this year so we're not stuck with year three of the Odell Beckham Show. I don't need to see the pre-game catches anymore.
Meh...

OBJ

really needs to be smarter. This isnt helpful. Great player but thus far in the early part of his career I dont find myself really enjoying rooting for him.

Yes, I know my handle makes that seem odd.
I like the confidence and really who gives a shit if OBJ talks this up
BlueLou : 7/20/2016 3:09 pm : link
and "puts himself in a position where he has to torch Norman every time he plays."

Think about that a minute, because I'm thinking "fuck yeah!"

I figure those 2 games vs the skins are good for 4 TDs from OBJ next year, pencil it in.

I love it. He's going to embarrass this dude badly.
Who cares?
Big Rick in FL : 7/20/2016 3:18 pm : link
Odell isn't wrong. He wasn't really known before that.

Odell knows he can't stop him so he can say whatever he wants.
I am fine with this as long as ODB doesn't ...
Boy Cord : 7/20/2016 3:37 pm : link
... lose his mind like he did vs. Carolina last season. That was not a good look for ODB.

Not sure what hes done to make it hard to root for him...he's an emotional guy who needs to keep it in check on the field a bit better. While he'd be better served by not bringing this up, his beef was legit and it's not like he's done anything offensive besides losing his cool....nothing to see here IMO.

THANK YOU!

This place is weird...it's not like OBJ ISN'T better than Josh Norman.....OBJ's gonna torch the guy.
For anyone bemoaning the fact that Beckham talked about this
j_rud : 7/20/2016 3:54 pm : link
let's remember that he's flat out refused to discuss it until now. And at least when he did, he's flat on it stating that he's better and not making stupid comments about stealing someone's bologna. I can't wait for those two matchups. Norman is going to get eviscerated.

I'd love it if that happens. But what if it doesn't?

I love the guy. Great player. The Giants went 0-2 against Philly last season and he got 12 catches for 115 yards total over 2 games. And they had nobodies at corner.

Always a possibility but he's absolutely owned the Skins so far. 28/364/5 hours n 3 matchups. And call me a homer but I don't think Norman is going to have that much of an impact. First, Beckham is simply better. Anyone watching the Carolina game knows this. Second, Washingtons D isn't Carolinas. I think Norman comes back to earth in a big way this season.
he needs to STFU until he puts on a show against him like

Really hate this argument. The Giants being awful last year has nothing to do with Odell. They had the worst defense I've ever seen

The defense doesn't factor into his personal performance. I was pointing out the fact that he did very little against a bad defense.

Who is going to be very sorry he left the Panthers elite defense and no longer has Cortland Finnegan fighting most of his battles for him.

He is going to get absolutely dominated by Odell and Dez four times a year. Not to mention Jordan Matthews.

He is a loser and will be exposed.

I don't understand this kind of sanctimonious bullshit. So because of a very small part of him, a game here or there and the odd cocky interview you can't root for the 99% of him that makes him the most electrifying offensive player we possibly have ever had?
Problem is...
WideRight : 7/20/2016 4:52 pm : link
He can say this stuff now, because he is king of the moment. And he's made the plays to back it up.

But nothing lasts foreever. When he misses a few plays or injuries take a little out of his game, his comments will look really bad...
Hey he is a Man and I guess

that every NFL Player has a Guy they just don't like .
Just as in Life .. Norman started it and I think there
is a fire Burning OBJ's Belly and Norman is the target .
I think he will back up this talk .
What surprised me was how good Malcom Butler was on him
like white on Rice .
In the OP OBJ's quote
mrvax : 7/20/2016 4:57 pm : link
I find him to be 100% correct. I never heard of Norman before that Panther's game. If OBJ can just keep himself from flipping out and handle this match up like Plax vs. Al Harris, Norman will be crying by the end of the game.
I Wish Odell
Trainmaster : 7/20/2016 5:01 pm : link

+1

This is pretty much exactly on the money in my opinion.
Good for him

This team needs a personality and an identity, I want our best player confident and unnerving opponents. He is going to abuse Norman again, but this time he'll catch the ball. The fact that Norman has that racist logo on his helmet will make it that much better. I like the confidence because Odell can back it up.
Only sets off Norman to bait obj again

OBJ is almost surely the most marketable player in the league
BlueLou : 7/21/2016 4:55 am : link
right now. Jordan Ranaan's farewell piece on the Giants for NJmedia was on OBJ's hair styles!
Hell OBJ may be the most marketable player in the league ever...
You guys really think he isn't being "smart" with how he conducts himself?

Getting suspended one game, because he lost his cool in the previous one, was about the only thing this guy has done wrong. Asides from dropping that huge TD bomb vs Norman that would likely have shut the punk ass's mouth up before he got started.

"What if" OBJ doesn't dominate against Norman? He'll hit the film room and figure out how to whip Norman their next game. This process is part of becoming great...

OBJ is everything you want in a young player.
Keith : 7/21/2016 10:27 am : link
He works hard. He's a great teammate. He's a good guy who seems to make good life decisions. He's one of, if not the best WR in football. Why some people get on him boggles my mind. He had a weak moment in that game. That's all it was and he's done nothing else to support that he's a bad or dumb guy.
I wonder how many of you would of hated LT when he first came into the
nygiants16 : 7/21/2016 11:17 am : link
God forbid a young superstar talks shit in the media or on the field, not everyone is going to be like Eli..

players talk shit it happens, now he has to back it up, now it is on him..

now having said that he can't go overboard like he did against Carolina, got to keep his emotions in check, talking shit is one thing, going after a player is totally different
that should say
