AAA-
Herrera 1-3, BB
Nimmo 1-4, K
Cecchini 2-4, 2 errors* (note, he was only charged with 1, with the second being charged to Dilson Herrera, I dare you to watch this video and say this isn't Cecchini's error, Herrera is pointing to the ball, Cecchini puts down his head and the ball falls in. https://twitter.com/Astromets31/status/755931117446803457)
Plawecki 1-4
Rivera 1-4, 2 k's
Gilmartin 6 innings 6 hits 4 runs 1 earned 2 walks 3 k's
AA

Last 97 PA from Dominic Smith: .395/.454/.756 with 5 2B, 1 3B, 8 HR, 24 RBI, 10 K: 9 BB, .377 BABIP) BABIP is inflated of course but he's simply crushing it right now. Let's hope he keeps it going (and takes his fitness a bit more seriously this off-season) great to see

Columbia
Dash 1-4, 2 k's
Garcia 1-4, 2b (has not been good since returning from PED suspension)
Shaw 5 innings 8 hits 4 runs 3 walks 4 k's (Gives up hits like it's going out of style)

Reyes 4-5, 2 3b
Pujols 1-5, 2 k's
Long story short, the owners turned off a few other markets and basically were forced to head out to LV (regarded as the worst AAA ballpark in baseball. Sewage issues etc). Sadly, they don't have an obvious out for a while. Gotta pray someone like Syracuse or Rochester ends chooses new teams. Might be 2-3 more years before the Mets can leave.
Both should open in AAA next year barring something unforeseen. I'm just happy Smith is showing power now and not next year when it's a daily debate of "PCL! LV!"

I was curious as to why the Mets AAA team is all the way out in Las Vegas? Would love to see some of their prospects in person since I go to Durham Bulls games in the International League.

Thanks for the explanation!
It looks like the bat might be able to help soon or even today, but if he can't field the position, there's not much he can do for us. Hopefully they keep giving him every day work there and we'll see reports of improvement at some point this year, or even next year.
He wasn't calling him off at all. Watch it again, he's pointing at Cecchini because Cecchini can't see it. Notice Herrera doesn't move toward the ball until it's clear Cecchini won't. That's 100% the SS's ball in every way.
Rosario blocks him at SS even though today Rosario is behind him in minors level.
-Ball goes up, Herrera points to Cecchini who jogs to around the area where the ball ends up landing and directly in front of Herrera (so clearly not getting out of the way)
-Herrera then notices that Cecchini isn't going after the ball so he rushes in (Cecchini in his way some reason looking at Herrera and not the ball) and finally at the last moment runs a few steps backwards (still in Herrera's way) and causes the ball to fall in a good 7 feet from the back to Cecchini's side. At the very least since when do you just put your head down? Why get in his way if he you think it's going to be his ball?
We are talking Sax /Knoblauch territory. This is not a kid struggling to learn the position. It's a mental thing. He was not like this his first two years. Hope he overcomes it because he is such a smart guy. Very likable when you hear him interviewed. But I'm not optimistic
And that's why Cecchini puts his head down and drifts toward Herrera? That's what your supposed to do? Get in his way? Not keep your head up in case it drifts a) for you to catch it b) to not be in the way? You never see a ball go up, pitcher calls for it, then suddenly someone else has to rush in? Since when does everyone else stop what they are doing/get in the way/put their head down?
Gavin Cecchini just matched his 2015 error total of 28 and it took him 43 fewer games/~400 fewer innings this year
hard to know without hearing what Herrera says, I assume from the video he's saying "mine" or "I got it"

they don't look alike but the swing and the body type seem very similar to mo-town to me
Mo was the only Red Sox player I ever liked and was ecstatic when the Mets acquired him (only to have those hopes shattered rather quickly), so maybe I want to see it, but they seem a lot alike to me.
the way Smith leans over the plate at the last second, google some Mo Vaughn youtubes.

I think anyone with a brain would sign for that. Not that I disagree with the visual you see at all but sidenote age 23 season Mo Vaughn displayed a ridiculously advanced eye at the plate (69 games 14 homers...60/44 BB/K, that's just nuts for a power hitter). I wonder if Vaughn would have been a Met had he lasted 1 more pick. A NY guy who went to school locally.
Herrera gets to play in Queens next year
not suggesting Smith will become major league Mo Vaughn (that was kind of in the steroid era so no clue what Mo was into and character wise the Red Sox hated him - fans loved him, but the Sox FO hated him, but I see similarities.

No real point in promoting Rosario. #1 He's not going to be playing for the 2016 Mets #2 While he's been very, very good... he has a .457 BABIP and we are talking about 94 PA's. See what he's doing 40-50 games from now.
5/8 he said
" He hopes to be back playing full speed without restrictions in four to six weeks." and now it's been over 10 weeks now.

Would be nice to have him in Bing with Smith, Rosario, Mazz...

Sorry for not being specific. Rosario to Las Vegas I meant.
How about now?

The sphincter factor according to Gamboa is when a player tightens his sphincter so much because of the pressure to succeed that the game moves too fast. Its the core of both Berrios and Tiberis problems, but they each have other obstacles in front of them as well, according to the skipper.

I think he's going to have to work more on his conditioning. He's a great defensive 1b, but if he puts on 20 pounds he's going to be a DH. Another reader asked about his recent surge and whether i'd slide him up the rankings (he was #44 last week) - no, although I'm very glad to see his performance, it's over a fairly small sample and I prefer to see more extended success. The fact that he's striking out so infrequently is probably the best aspect of this little run he's on.
Might be #2 starter upside. Not sure I'll get up there as I have been spending most of my free time working on my book.
Would you say that your ceiling has changed at all for Conforto with his recent struggles? Or is it just an injury that is delaying the true breakout?
Nothing has changed except that Terry Collins appears to have lost his mind.

Definitely. Outside of the top 4-5, the real list likely looks nothing like this at season's end. Id have about 10 other pitchers above Ynoa.

The Durham Bulls would actually be an pretty good partner for the Mets, considering all of the transplanted New Yorkers who live in that area. I can't imagine there are too many natural Rays fans there. The Mets and Bulls were already affiliated back in '67-'68 so it's not that crazy.
- Rochester (pray they dump the Twins)
-Syracuse (best chance, following 2018)
-Durham (unlikely but possible following 2018)
- Yankees use their muscle and buy/move a team, leave Scranton and leave that option for us, where we have pursued a move previously.
But is it also what allowed him to hit for more power? could be a catch-22
