NFT: Islanders Working On Move to Queens

Makes a lot of sense and would probably be the best case scenario at this point. Build their own arena adjacent to CitiField.

I just commented on the NHL thread

Barclays always looked like a mistake. This would make much more sense.

I worded that a little misleading. They're reportedly in talks. Not formally working on it (semantics?)

Agreed
Whatever happened to the Wilpon's grand plan to remake Willett's Point

That never came to fruition, huh?

I think Bloomberg couldn't get eminent domain for the body shops. That's where you would put the Islanders (and Jets but Woody doesn't like going further than Manhattan).

The demand for mufflers is just too damn high.
im an islanders fan from NJ

barclays is much easier for me to get to, but I'm sure they would love to make it much easier for the fans coming from the island.

the BS about the players complaining about the logistics as far as getting to the rink is ridiculous. a lot of teams have similar travel with practice and game facilities.
Seems like a play

by the new owners to get Barclays to spend some $$$ to put in some Islander friendly renovations. I'm not sure another arena in the NY area is economically feasible.

FWIW, if this ended up being built, it'd be awesome and tailgating would be back!
So will they become the New York Queens?
Vanzetti : 7/22/2016 7:40 am : link
I'm if you are on the island and you are called the Islanders, it would seem to follow

Isn't Queens part of the Island???
Technically

Willets Pt would put them closer to Long Island than they currently are. Long standing debate whether Queens and Brooklyn are part of LI. The logo seems to include them. Name stays.

Long standing debate? Between who, people who don't know geography and people who do?
We are gonna build a great arena
Mike in Long Beach : 7/22/2016 8:37 am : link
and let me tell ya, the mets are gonna pay for it.
The "debate" is for people who don't want to be associated with LI
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/22/2016 9:03 am : link
even though Brooklyn and Queens are physically on the landmass known as long island.
