I was reviewing our special teams, especially in light of the new talent we have brought in, and I truly believe we have the potential to be a top 5 overall unit.
LS Zak DeOssie will be back and he is one of the better LS's in the league. Hopefully he is fully healthy and stays healthy because he is key and even gets downfield to make tackles.
K Josh Brown is among the more accurate NFL kickers and has a strong leg as well.
P Wing is solid as well, no real holes in his game.
KR Harris is among the league's very best not only returning kicks and punts BUT he is also an ace downfield tackler.
Now, the key to special teams is often having the first man NOT miss but make the tackle against a KR or PR. I believe we have a lot of young guys who will excel on specials along with new FB Johnson who we know is superb.
Thoughts? Do we have any clear cut holes that anyone can see? They say special teams win or lose about 2 games a year for you. I see two wins for us.
But we do seem to have a core of exceptional special teams tacklers in WR D. Harris and FB Johnson, to name just two. I really like the potential of our rookie class as far as specials go as well. I think Goodson and Thompson can be studs with Perkins and Admas also contributing.
But, GIANTS coverage guys don't seem to know how to break down and get into proper position to make a tackle, particularly on punt coverage. The result is that the first guy down field often misses, with the return man gaining extra yards as a result. I put this issue squarely on coaching, both from roster turnover and teaching perspectives.
However, if you look at all the stats, the GIANTS did have a pretty good year overall on specials in 2015. Better than the prior two or three seasons. Let's hope this trend continues, and hopefully things improve further this season.

We had pretty good overall coverage units. We have to hope that the youth we brought in; the return to health by many; and new UFA FB Johnson show well on specials and improve the units. I have a good feeling this will in fact happen.
Our return game was solid with Harris last year as well.
Should be fun to see. I really think our specials will be special and win us the "2 games" others would lose with lesser units.
Looks like we got some more talent in the draft and UDFA afterwords that can make them better.
& day to go an hope springs eternal.

That's potential on STs from 4 of 6 draftees.
Still have stuff to improve on especially first couple guys down on punt coverage who seem to run past their targets.
Can live with the rest although need a solution for Brown soon.

I'm actually hoping we score so many TD's in the redzone that all his short FG's won't be needed so maybe his percentages will go down. LOL
