"There weren’t a lot of people who, so to say, had my back during that game, that’s for sure,” he claims. “In my opinion.”

He nods. “Their team was up, 35–7. And I’m competitive. I don’t like to lose. We’re sitting there, and people are thinking about what we’re doing after the game.”

GQ Interview - ( New Window )
Another good quote from the article's closing paragraph.

Some people, even some Giants fans, will see a prima donna due for a comeuppance; others will see a merciless competitor who maybe thinks out loud too much. For what it’s worth, Beckham’s tone throughout our conversation is focused and intense, not petulant, and the message is clear: Either you’re helping him get where he wants to go, or you’re getting in his way.

It just says something like Error Forbidden. I tried going through Google and had the same issue for that page. I, too, have an android.

Odell is the ultimate competitor. I love that about him. The guy absolutely hates to lose.
Im surprised he still doesn't completely
SimpleMan : 7/22/2016 9:11 am : link
own up to how foolish he was in the Carolina game. 6 months later he is still saying he would do it again and wondering why teammates didn't have his back. He was out of control. Still think Coughlin needed to bench him, at least for a series or 2.

I guess he feels like he was getting mugged illegally and after the whistle and no one of his teammates stepped up to help him. So he doesn't feel any need to apologize. That's hard to understand?

Depends what you saw, but from my POV he has nothing to apologize for, except dropping that first bomb Eli laid on him perfectly.

Next year beat Norman like a drum and the chatter from him will die down. As for extracurricular hits, that's on the refs to pull some flags out of their asses.
Move over, Mr. Namath.

It's Broadway O.

He's basically a mamma's boy - in a good way - who loves the spotlight, loves to preen, loves to talk, and will do everything he can to deliver. (And if he stays healthy, he'll be a better football player than Namath was.)

Its one thing to get pissed off when your getting into after-the-whistle stuff with Norman while your teammates are not doing much. I do understand that completely. But when you are running full speed and spearing someone after a play and getting suspended then yeah, maybe he needs to re-evaluate his actions that day. Is that hard to understand?

Give me a break. He acted like a child and threw a tamper tantrum. He disgraced the uniform that day and I agree that it's scary that he's now passing blame on to his teammates.

I disagree. Don't think he needs to do anything more than acknowledge he was wrong, made a mistake, which he has. And he's absolutely right: This incident never would have escalated the way it did if his teammates hadn't left him to deal with it alone.

Well if Mac follows TC's methods there will be some discussion or is it written notes to the refs to please keep an eye on Norman's after the whistle activity with OBJ so the situation doesn't get close to the boiling point.

Simple man, I don't know exactly what you mean by
BlueLou : 7/22/2016 10:08 am : link
"out of control" but OBJ was very much in control when he made that running spear attempt at Norman. By in control I mean it was a deliberate and calculated action.

Football is a rough, violent game within the rules. If OBJ was a trench player he could take care of business with no one noticing. But on the outside... Maybe if the game was close the Giants could have called some running plays to give OBJ a crack at blocking the fuck out of Norman, but that wasn't the case.

As for "being embarrassed" by his actions I simply wasn't, so sue me. Rough sport.
The most concerning thing
Old Dirty Beckham : 7/22/2016 10:08 am : link
is that opposed to learning from the experience it seems Beckham would rather place blame elsewhere.

For a guy who "cares about winning so much" I didnt see him to angry when they lost to NO but he had a big day. He sure took that loss in stride.

Beckham was embarrassed that he dropped that pass and Norman let him hear about it. Beckham collapsed from that point and he can't look himself in the mirror and admit it.
Its hard for me
Giantophile : 7/22/2016 10:11 am : link
to LOVE Odell. But I try to remember he is so young and has had such a meteoric rise. He's become so famous so early that he's going to make mistakes and say some eye-roll inducing stuff. However, I think he cares about football and his team and I think he's genuinely a good kid.

He's not hitting any women, he's (very likely) not doing drugs, so just keep focusing on football Odell. Go live a hollywood life in the offseason if it suits you so long as you take care of business. Still has a lot of ups and downs to go through in his career, he'll do plenty of growing up.
enjoy it now

Opinions
Joey in VA : 7/22/2016 1:03 pm : link
Do and will vary greatly even among us Giant faithful, but everyone has to agree that it sure as hell is more interesting being a Giant fan because of him. This fanbase is generally on the same wavelength as ownership. We don't embrace showy displays, no jewles just regular, just play hard, keep quiet and grind away like a Bavaro, Banks, Eli, Tuck, or any OL from our title teams.

What we don't love to admit is that those 4 squads had hot heads who drove and inspired those teams in LT and Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs isn't on LT's level play wise but he had the same impact emotionally and fans were split on him when would say or do something we cringed at. Odell can be that sparkplug as long as he stays within the rules, and if he does I have little doubt he will be a big part of us winning a 5th trophy. You need an emotional lightning rod and if he controls it he will be that for us while Eli guides us calmly again to his 3rd ring. Maybe not this season, but we're winning one in the next 3-4 years.

that Norman was calling him a faggot all game because of all the rumors of OBJ possibly being gay?

I think it was the bat incident and the threat of ending his career that really set him off. Besides why would being called a bundle of sticks be offensive?
I love his

Intensity. He needs to learn some trash talking responses rather than fighting people who call him names. and he needs to make the easy catches on top of the crazy highlight reel ones. But he can be in the HOF one day

This is correct. However, the Panthers did exactly what they wanted to do; get OBJ off his game and get into his head.

But if something like this happened in hockey, hockey fans would be upset about his teammates leaving their star out to dry instead of saying how terrible the star is. I understand football is different and he's kind of on an island with Norman. But I like the idea of teammates actually standing up to a troll on behalf of their star teammate.

Imagine Brandon Jacobs letting that shit happen on his watch? I would bet Jacobs would have sent a message to Norman early.

It just bothers me how many sanctimonious old farts there on BBI going "in my day, players took their abuse quietly, I can't root for this whipper snapper." Seriously, shut the fuck up, Eli and OBJ are the only reasons this team is not the worst in the league the last two years and completely unwatchable.
Vax ejected?
BlueLou : 7/22/2016 4:56 pm : link
Eli runs a sweep to Jacobs to Norman's side and they leave Norman unblocked and yell BJac "just run him over."

No ejection for that.
This bothers me because I think it's true, not because he said it

Very curious about who specifically he's referring to. This is very reminiscent of the comments made by Weston Richburg back in May about guys that are "just OK being there".

After the Panthers game I remember also feeling like Beckham's teammates were seemingly absent when everything was going down with Norman, and maybe should have at least shown some kind of presence or gesture of support. I hope that this doesn't become a recurring theme and the players remaining on the Giants show a little more ferocity, competitiveness, and unity.

My lawn. Get off it.
I have always felt
TrueBlue56 : 7/23/2016 10:15 am : link
That the officials really completely lost control of the game. There was no reason whatsoever for any player to be on the field with a bat before the game (nevermind threatening another player) and then the officials doing absolutely nothing after Norman blatantly attacked Odell. The same crap happened in the rams game the previous year. They clearly went after beckham with an intent to injure (no surprise with a jeff fisher coached team) officials and the league did nothing. I really don't know what else Beckham was supposed to do.
