From, Friday Reading Thread - JPP doing 120lb Dumbell

ZogZerg : 7/22/2016 8:19 am
presses. Pretty impressive for someone missing half the fingers on their hand.

His instagram video is in the linked article.

He is looking really good. Can't wait to see how he looks on the Field.
JPP 120lb dumbell presses - ( New Window )
What's the over under for JPP's sacks total this year?
BlueLou : 7/22/2016 8:24 am : link
I would bet over on 12..
I think we would all sign up for 12 sacks this year
ZogZerg : 7/22/2016 8:29 am : link
right now. This injury has really changed him, in a good way.
I'm excited to see JPP on the field
jcn56 : 7/22/2016 8:31 am : link
with some credible linemates next to him, and a year removed from his injury.
Be careful when you drop those dumbbells, JPP.

A bad bounce and you might crush a toe.
Wow that was impressive form
Tuckrule : 7/22/2016 9:26 am : link
I didn't think he would do it from a dead position. He has some great strength back in that hand/forearm. He's really an easy guy to root for. Love me some jpp
One of the benefits of going through such adversity
Diver_Down : 7/22/2016 9:26 am : link
is the attitude change. In addition, he's thinner which should translate to being more explosive off the line. I hope he has a monster year and have no problem backing up the Brinks truck for him.
120s? What a pussy.
Patrick77 : 7/22/2016 9:36 am : link
Maybe he is going to try out for the USA women's field hockey team next year...
I think he'll be fine this year.
TheManUpstairs : 7/22/2016 9:40 am : link
I mean, last year, with no training camp at all, he was serviceable when he came back. While I hate to sound like Harry Homer, he seems like a man on a mission now, and the hand should be much more usable.
Seems to be a man on a mission ...
Beer Man : 7/22/2016 9:46 am : link
hopefully he has his best season as a Giant
If you FBF him
old man : 7/22/2016 10:54 am : link
he has been working out DAILY since the end of the season, posting video of some of what he is doing.
He really has been on a mission to make it up to the Giants for the 4th of July incident.
He really wants to be a Giant 4L.

I know. He probably thinks we are impressed that he is doing only 120 lbs. in each hand.

Underestimating I think.

First, I think we'll be tough to run on as all four starting DL's and LB Kennard are above average run defenders. Therefore, teams may want to go to the air more and test a secondary that was the league's worst last year.

Second, JPP is HUNGRY to prove himself and get that big contract he missed out on due to his blunder. He is in his prime; knows the defense now; and, has skills. He will also feed off of the pressure Vernon, Hankins and Kennard help create.

I'm thinking 16 sacks and lots of pressures. Vernon is more like 12 sacks and lots of pressures. I see DT Hankins feeding off them for 8 sacks and Kennard with some 8 sacks as well. This defense will generate pressure if it stays healthy this year.

And if the secondary steps up with less mental errors; CB J. Jenkins superb in slot duty and Apple holding his own on the outside; and S D. Thompson and the others holding their own, look for even more sacks and turnovers.

On paper, with wishful thinking eyeglasses, I believe we'll be a top notch run defense and our pass defense shouldn't be worse than "middle of the pack" - better if the safety play is super solid, which is possible.
Certainly looks in shape and strong

which before the injury would have made him all world by now. Wonder what type of techniques he has been schooled in to compensate for his inability to grab and hold with half a hand. He has all the other tools in abundance. How can you not root for this guy now ?
i don't

think enough is made of what happened last year. human beings do not return to the field after something like that. in addition to the traumatic hand injury he had no camp, was unable to lift weights and up to his ears in pain killers. Playing with an oven mitt. his return and effective play was nothing short of a miracle. I don't think there's another player in any sport - not j.j. watt, not von miller, name me any tough guy or freak athlete you've got - that could've pulled it off. that's how special an athlete and person this guy is

i am expecting him to absolutely light it up this year. he is locked in and anyone in his way is in big trouble

So agree! Give me someone with desire, heart and a motor along with top notch skills AND something to prove. He will have a superb season because it looks like he'll be able to grip just well enough with 3 fingers.

I am inclined to take that bet. Id be happy with 8, ecstatic with 12
Chopper, it looks like JPP will be lining up more vs
BlueLou : 7/23/2016 11:10 pm : link
right tackles that left this year with OV featured at RDE.

I don't think the 3 fingered hand is gonna hold him back much.

I would be really surprised if he doesn't hit double digits at least.

He's playing for a 50 mil guaranteed payday, and to show everyone that the Giants' faith in him was justified. Everyone says he's in fantastic shape. If he stays healthy...

Not saying that he doesnt have a lot to prove. Also not saying that he is in a better position to do so. But the hand combined with that his last 12 sack season came towards the end of the year in garbage time.

I am so rooting for the guy. I would love him and Vernon to be our demons for the next 5 years. But 12 is a damn good year. But I would take 10 sacks and 80 tackles
