The lack of respect for Eli...

That’s Gold, Jerry : 7/22/2016 11:26 am
attached is another example of the lack of respect Eli gets from the media. Selecting Romo over Eli and even including Kirk Cousins as a possibility is as insulting as it gets.

I do not understand this...Eli has never missed a game. He has put up, in the past two years, excellent numbers even though he has had only one playmaker and a makeshift offensive line. He has had no real running game since 2011 not to mention he is a two time Super Bowl MVP and winner.

It's just shocking really.

I've got to disagree this time

This year I think people are starting to take notice. Noticed that he's had 2 solid years under a more QB friendly system. Noticed that he has done so under the radar. Noticed enough to place him top 50 when he usually doesn't make the top 100 (albeit behind Rivers which I don't get). Noticed enough for more than one analyst to consider he has a great chance to be an All Pro this coming season. One even suggested the league MVP.

There's always going to be an article that craps on Eli. He's not elite. He doesn't belong in the HoF. Blah blah blah. Hell I laugh when people call Big Ben more of an iron man than Eli. I guess my definition of iron man differs from others. Still, I think if he has another great statistical year, even a quiet one, the talk about Eli will really turn a corner.
It is amazing

how little the Cowboys have accomplished with Romo, and how time after time, the Cowboys are everyone's darling in the preseason. Then they begin to tank, and then win a game, maybe they are 2-5 or some shit, and people start projecting them running the table and winning the division, and it has happened what? 3 times in 10 years? And they are always everyone's darling. It gets tiring. And Romo's consistency? And upside? Where the fuck does that come from? He will not play 16 games this year. Take it to the bank. The Cowboys have won 2 playoff games under Romo. And the win last year was gift-wrapped with the picked up PI flag. Inexplicable. They lost to the Giants in 07-08, after going 12-4, and it was Romo at the end of the game with the ball in his hands throwing a game ending interception. That win over the Eagles in the playoffs was a joke. Eagles had nothing. The Cowboys lose when they are supposed to lose, and lose when they are supposed to win. It does make me sick how every year is finally going to be their year.

Good assessment and post. The Cowboys defense is really going to struggle, especially early in the year with suspensions and such.

The Cowboys are likely going to score a lot and control the clock, but may struggle against our DL where each player is an above average run defender. I also think LB Robinson gives us middle of the field coverage ability that we haven't had in recent years.

So long as our safeties develop in pass coverage, we'll be fine on defense. We just have to stay healthy, knock Romo around and hope Cromartie holds his own against WR Bryant.

There are only 12 QBs IN HISTORY who have won multiple Super Bowls. Only 7 players IN HISTORY have multiple Super Bowl MVPs. Eli is on both of those lists but he's somehow not a top 10 QB in the league right now. I wish Romo would've stayed healthy so he could have choked in the playoffs more and we wouldn't have this "what could have been" narrative.

I'm glad that Eli doesn't care about this crap but it drives me crazy.

And there is only one QB in the history of the NFL that has defeated an 18-0 team in the SB

This.

Why do we care about how much respect someone gets from media, fans, or even other players?

Do you remember where you were when he won us our Super Bowls? Do you remember who you were with and how happy you were?

That's what matters. That's what I will take to my fucking grave when the man comes around.

Respect for Eli,it does bother me a little that he gets slighted for aspects of his game in favor of quarterbacks who have not achieved what he has or choked on a grander scale. How Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford or Andy Dalton are lifted above Eli is fucking stupid to me.
Here's examples why I disagree

Bold prediction for Romo is he will play all 16 games. Bold prediction for Eli is first team all pro. Possibly the best QB in the league. Also an admission of underrating him the last 2 years.

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap3000000675666/NFC-East-bold-predictions-for-2016?campaign=fb-nn-sf31404211-sf31404211

Also here is Eli being picked by Jamie Dukes as MVP. He does later caveat that Brady was his first pick but he's sitting out 4 games.

http://www.giants.com/news-and-blogs/article-1/NFL-Network-has-Eli-Manning-as-a-2016-MVP-candidate/fa28de61-1801-4bd7-b00b-03fd77f939e0

Finally, here's his pick at 47 of the top 100 which shows me the players are starting to respect his game as well.

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-top100-2016/0ap3000000667954/Top-100-Players-of-2016-No-47-Eli-Manning

My point here is that I think it's clear that the change in offensive philosophy has greatly helped Eli. I'm not hating on Gilbride's offense either. Gilbride's offense was feast or famine. The highs were high and the lows were low. Hell yes OBJ is incredible but it's just been him so far. Most of the talking heads said Eli couldn't make the adjustment to a WCO. I don't think Eli has gotten better over the last 2 years. I think he's in a system that makes a QB look better. Just how many interceptions under Gilbride's offense was due to the receiver and QB not being on the same page? We may never known. Under McAdoo's offense, we are seeing much of Eli's skillset and less of the team's misfires.

I'll make another point that he's getting these accolades despite an overall terrible team the last 2 seasons. Is anybody blaming Eli for the Giants missing the playoffs? In previous years people would try and discredit him and claim the defense won the SB's and Eli had nothing to do with it. Laughable I know since Eli took home the MVPs.

Call me crazy but he could do it this year ....
We played the Panthers as good as anybody with Zero
on Defense and should have Won same with New England
now I'm not saying what Von Miller might have done to the right side of the O-line if the right things fall into place starting with health and guys like Kennard Hankins Cruz and Donnell come back and stay healthy and Thompson or whomever
secure the FS position . We will not only make some noise but we will make a run .
Then all the Idiots who refuse to face the facts about our
future HOF WB ...
Were gonna bitch slap The Boys opening night and find a way
to at the Very Least split with Philthy ...

You aren't crazy by any means. I too believe we'll be better than most think this year and that any of a 10 or so teams in the NFC are capable of making the SB (good QB play and pass rush being the key factors...) and we have a very good QB and we will have pass rush this year.

The key is staying healthy and for the youth to develop. If guys like Sheppard, Thompson, Apple, Behre, Jackson, OWA, Bromley, Goodson, Perkins, Brett Jones, Bobby Hart, Nikita Whitlock, etc. develop and become contributors our future looks bright.

As for Dallas, remember 3 starting defensive players are already out for game 1 due to suspension. And camp hasn't even started yet so you don't know what injuries, knicks and so forth are going to hit them on defense. Same can be said for us so I'm praying we have gotten healthy and stay healthy for a great opening day game.

The main reason I'm picking us over Dallas despite their offensive talent is we will certainly score on them but our DLine, the starting group, is very solid against the run and Dallas will focus on their ground game all year long. Every starter on the DLine is an above average run defender if healthy and so forth.

I also like LB Kennard against the run. He is a true hammer. LB Brinkley really surprised last year and showed he can stop the run. Brinkley can't cover but that is why we signed LB Robinson. I also think S L. Collins will be an absolute stud at the LOS and stuff the run with the best of them too.

I also like our special teams units. Opening day often brings surprises and big returns and I love D. Harris in this role.

I'm predicting an opening WIN this year as we bounce back and don't give the game away like we did last year. But everything is contingent on our health as we lack depth. Dallas likely doesn't have the pass rushers for opening day needed to rattle Eli - 2 DE's out due to suspension.

If you can't pressure a QB he will eat you up. I see Eli going short to his open options (Tye, Vereen, Sheppard, Cruz) and deep more than once to OBJ who will haul a few in for sure.

Giant by a TD or better if we are healthy.

that think he will be first team all pro this season. That means he will be the best qb in the league. Better than Rogers, Luck, Cam, Brady etc.

That is giving props!!
If rookie WR Sheppard is as good as advertised and is ready for live NFL game action out of the gates Eli has a real shot to put up the big numbers needed for first team AllPro. Also, we need to stay healthy and for Victor Cruz to return to form.

Other keys are redzone offense where Eli must find a way to get the ball in the endzone. I think we will run much better this year with a true FB in Johnson and improved TE blocking and OL blocking. Our continuity is also very key in my eyes.

I'm hoping Eli is 65%, 5,000, 45 TD and 9 INT or something like that but more importantly he wins games. Stats aren't everything but for AllPro they are the key.
Adding to USAF NYG Fan's post, here is a video

Compilation by Beast Mode of "the NFL'S 10 Greatest Catches Ever".

Actually it's 15 since it includes 5 "Honorable Mentions".

Now of course some of those catches are "arguable" as to whether or not they belong on the list, and it's pretty clear that the specific game and play situations factored into the editor's selections. Several of them are last minute or seconds game winning grabs in OT and/or playoff situations.

Only 3 QBs appear twice, and at least one or two of those include, to my mind, a truly questionable or even dubious choice. The weakest "greatest catch" to my eyes is easily Brady to Welker for 99 yards, which is a less impressive catch than maybe half a dozen or so among Eli to (OBJ, Nicks, Cruz, or Manningham) plays that many Giants' fans can recall off the top of our heads.

But just taking the list at face value, the QBs with 2 plays on it and the plays' rankings are as follows:

15) Brady to Moss
10) Brady to Seller
14) Favre to Greg Lewis
9) Favre to Antonio Freeman
4) Eli to Beckham
1) Eli to Tyree

Of all the QBs on the list, every single one of the retired ones was a first ballot HOFer. All of the QBs on the list are or were Super Bowl winners.

Considering that Eli to Manningham is easily a more impressive throw and catch than the Brady to Welker play listed at 9, and that in any case Eli is the ONLY QB involved in 2 plays among the top 5, why isn't Eli widely though of as a sure fire HOFer?

I actually understand why and have addressed it at times, but still it's pretty bizarre.

Enjoy the video.

It seems like players are rated based on how many points they'll get in fantasy. The bottom line is Eli has the rings.

History will judge Eli, for the Lombardis and the greatest plays ever. Long past when the top FF guys are forgotten. Guys like Romo, Ryan, and Rivers.
