NFT: SF Giants at NY Yankees - 7/23/16

illmatic : 7/23/2016 4:42 pm
Gardner with a great catch in the first inning to save a run. Then he starts a nice relay to Didi who makes a great throw home in the second to save another run.

No score, bottom of the second.

Theyre in a bad stretch for sure. But Tanaka last night and Nova is pitching pretty well today.
Great game by Nova

It's sad that the Yankees pretty much need excellent starts every day to even be in the game but that's how they are. At least they have the excuse of going up against some great starters lately though.
Ramiro fucking Pena....you've got to be kidding me

Should be two on, no out
10th inning had a leadoff pinch hit double

But 54 mows them down and Yankees are up for the bottom of the 10th.

I rarely watch the Yankees anymore but after a hot day in the sun, picnic, good to chill.
Big shock, bunting fails again

Always a loser strategy
Binders

Doing Binders things.
the bunt was the right call

it was McCann who swung at the first pitch hitting a pop up that wouldn't have been a HR on a Tee Ball field.

The big 3 relievers did their job once again , problem ... Yanks don't have anyone else to pitch worth a damn!

Please , sell ..sell..sell....

McCanns AB was atrocious

He had a relatively easy task and completely shit the bed. Just awful.
He went on the first pitch

Got a ball to lift, but it ran away from him late. I didn't like the bunt either because it takes away Beltran, your best hitter. Ellsbury is almost certainly not going to hit into a DP if he had been allowed to swing away.

Still if they take tomorrow's game that will be 3-4 Indians, 3-4 Orioles, 2-3 Giants. No way Hal will allow the sale to begin. That is a detriment to fixing this team. Valuable evaluative and seasoning time is being wasted. They have 4 or 5 guys who would bring solid value. Load the pipeline. Then get some veterans later.
FYI...

I could go either way on the bunt.

You obviously don't like taking the bat out of Beltran's hands. But, it still loads the bases for McCann. All he needed to do was hit a fly ball and he shit the bed.
Just another example of why Girardi is ordinary

average, a robot and a poor game manager. Statistically 1st & 2nd zero outs is about a 65% chance of scoring. 2nd and 3rd 1 out is about a 70% chance of scoring.

That doesn't take into account that the runner on 2nd is a very fast runner. That doesn't take into account that the hitter with 1st and 2nd is a good hitter and a fast runner. That doesn't take into account that next hitter is by far your best hitter and will be walked and bring up two poor hitters.

Was bunting a horrible play? No. But in that situation it's a poor play. McCann & Castro are both hitting about .200 with runners in scoring position. No surprise they both failed. They've been doing that all year long.

Posey playing with a bruised foot. Duffy, Panic, Pence on the DL. Bullpen has not been great this season.
