History

Giants Birthdays 7-24

Dale Markham T W-KC 1980 NYG 1980 7-25-1957
In December 1980 the Giants were so injury riddled they added 5 players in a week, Markham a tall 6-9 tackle, George Small a NT, Kevin Turner a LB, Don Patterson a CB, and Dennis Johnson TE. While Markham's Giants career was brief, he did return to Giants stadium to play in the 1985 USFL championship game as a member of the Oakland Invaders.

Roscoe Word W-BUF 1976 NYG 1976 7-24-1952
After two seasons with the Jets, Word played for 4 teams in 1976, the Jets, Bills, Giants, and Buccaneers. Those teams combined for a 8-48 record.

The Dallas 5 questions article is interesting
SGMen : 7/24/2016 10:35 am : link
Dallas won't have its best pass rushers for opening day as both starting DE's are OUT due to suspension. If you can't pressure Eli you are going to get torched and I fully expect us, assuming we are healthy ourselves, to do just that on opening day. You attack the weak link of a defense and the deep ball may be of great use game 1.

The health of WR Bryant and QB Romo are key, of course, to Dallas and their chances for a winning season. Both have been nicked a lot and Romo has a collarbone that is maybe a hard hit away from landing him on the IR. Seriously, they didn't get a veteran backup this off-season? Jerry Jones is my favorite owner cause he's an idiot. Love it!

No one can predict injuries but they do happen and will happen in camp. The Dallas article points out the obvious when it says that Dallas has lost a key player each camp to injury. Neither team can afford that this year.

As good as the Dallas OL will likely be I still believe our DL plus Kennard, Brinkley, Collins and Robinson will be more than adequate to keep young rookie RB Elliott in check. They may get 100 yards but it will be a hard earned, 3.8 ypc type of day. At least I hope that is the case.

Giants 34-24 or something like that on opening day. Our defense is better; our offense has continuity and experience; and our special teams are better as well.

Last word: TE Witten has always killed us but last year he showed that he isn't the receiver of days past. He is however one of the league's better blocking TE's. I see him having a 40-400-4 type year receving, a far cry from his glory days. Dallas will mass protect Romo because they must and they likely will be quite successful as they have outstanding personnel to do this.

And can LB Sean Lee play 16 games? He is a concussion away from IR if you ask me. His injury history is frightening.
Call it a hunch
UberAlias : 7/24/2016 12:42 pm : link
But I have a feeling we are going to real good feeling about both teams, Giants and Dallas, one way or another, after the opening game. One of these two teams is going to emerge as a force in the NFC --and it will be clear to everyone by game end. Problem is, not sure just yet which it will be.

A star will be born in this game. Maybe more than one, even. Mark it down.

Get your popcorn ready. Have a feeling we're in for an exciting season!

If we can't beat Dallas with three defensive starters out, including both starting pass rush DE's, we don't deserve to have a big season. That is how I come out.

This of course assumes we are healthy ourselves. This is year #3 of this offense; our offensive players are basically coming back in tact with the only major exception WR Reuben Randle, who isn't a major loss IF WR Victor Cruz replaces his production and then some (and he will...).

We are going to score on Dallas if they can't pressure Eli at all. Dallas could struggle in its first four games with 3 starters out. We MUST win opening day and our next two for a 3-0 start before we go on the road vs tough teams like MN and GB (short week).
