Surprising that Neal, who just turned 29, remains unemployed given that he had four sacks for the Packers last year, has starting experience and can play both defensive end and outside linebacker.
and be an upgrade as a LB well why not bring him to camp? Heck, injuries happen as well. Seems like he can play.
CB Leon Hall is the other guy from the list that caught my eye. He could be our fifth CB and he can play some still.
WR A. Boldin is also a possibility. WR OBJ, Cruz, Sheppard, Davis and Harris are locks. Do we want a veteran like Boldin for redzone? Not sure....doubtful but you never know.
a ton of LBs signed already that can be chosen from. Neal can rush the passer so I'd assume if signed, he be a 4th DE which isn't a bad thing.
We already have four defensive ends: JPP, Vernon, Wynn and OWA. Neal ain't beating out any of those four guys.
Many of the projected roster lists I've seen still have Herzlich on the roster, likely due to his special teams play and knowledge of the defense. He is good against the run at him but he can't chase and he can't cover or rush. So if Neal can play specials (I have no idea?); if he can rush the passer as a LB and be an upgrade why not bring him in?
Why can't Neal surpass Wynn? If Neal is solid against the run, he has the edge b/c Wynn cannot rush the passer.
I think if Neal was that good he'd have been signed already. I see him as a last line of defense.
I think Wynn has upside. With Neal, you know what you have since he's been in the league awhile. So I say sign Neal and let things play out in camp? We have a lot of signed guys for LB and DE but you never know what happens in camp? Injuries or lack of development?
in the AJA report on PEDs/HGH that involved Peyton Manning and others. Given that, I don't find the lack of interest from NFL teams "surprising" as the first linked article suggests.
The AJA report drew a good deal of reflex negative reaction because it was painted as "Al Jazeera vs. all American good guy Peyton Manning." But MLB's Taylor Teagarden is serving an 80 game suspension as a result of his (accurately) reported involvement. And NFL is, at this point, at least going through motions of taking the issue seriously. Link - ( New Window )
