NFT: Olympic Village in Rio is uninhabitable, says Australian

Last night (Saturday), we decided to do a “stress test” where taps and toilets were simultaneously turned on in apartments on several floors to see if the system could cope once the athletes are in-house.

The system failed. Water came down walls, there was a strong smell of gas in some apartments and there was “shorting” in the electrical wiring.

We were due to move into the Village on 21 July but we have been living in nearby hotels, because the Village is simply not safe or ready.

I hate to post another "Olympics not ready thready", but more issues keeps coming out. The Australians refuse to move into the Olympic village until these issue are resolved.

let alone on of the biggest sports tournaments in the world. Really sucks that the athletes have to deal with this crap because the group running the show is so corrupt and inept.

And they are legitimately risking their health and safety. Zika, crap-filled water, and no money for security, just to name a few.

The Olympics have been broken for a long time. Rio is one step closer to the system bottoming out. The model either needs to change or they need to go away.

is a shill for the Olympics. I remember in Sochi they made the transformation of that town out to look like it was miraculous development, and they didn't report about all of the issues athletes and visitors were having with the hotels and the venues.

I heard NBC is also going to show the opening ceremonies on tape delay so they can give a better perspective on them after they get a better "cultural explanation" on the meaning of some of the skits.

The BBC and a couple other stations will be airing them live.
