Yes, he is. I wonder if SF worked out a deal with him or something that made him want to be reinstated. Or is he going to force a trade? It will be an interesting next few days.
The continued ascension of this guy to Mt Rushmore by this fan base is astounding.
When did he ever come close to playing as well as his draft status dictated. he was never that good. Then he quits the team and only wants to play when they are winning. Enough
The Niners were on TV plenty when he played. Do not remember thinking he was this standout player

I think it can be summed up this way. He (should) be better than Marshall Newhouse.

Well, that's too bad, because the deal should be announced shortly.

Rutgers is my alma mater for undergraduate and graduate school. I followed him a bit after he was drafted as I recall round 1 and agree he never lived up to his draft status. But he is still better than Newhouse, particularly as a run blocker.
I don't know the story behind his "retirement" - whether he truly quit or just wanted to heal his body or whatever, but if he WANTS to play and has the DESIRE he upgrades our team. Even if he doesn't start right away.
But how do you gauge his heart, desire and motivation to be a starting RT of merit? Maybe he never lived up to expectations because he never worked hard enough? I don't know, we don't know, only Anthony Davis knows.
RE: Baalke finally is gonna make this thing happen!!!
may have convinced him that there's been a change in culture and I suspect he's staying. That's based on absolutely nothing solid and I'd be happy if he's here in time for the opening of camp.
But I'm not sure reinstatement proceedings move quickly.

Boom, this. Why would Chip Kelly not want a solid to very good RT as part of the foundation for his offense? He has always valued athletic linemen. He either wants him there or the Niners price is far too high.
One word..

IMMINENT!
Please add is " Do it Jerry " & " Make it Happen Jerry "
and if we don't sign him it will be " Reece Asleep at the Wheel "
My 2 Cents WE should every member of BBI use any means to get him to come play for Us .. I'm thinking Ray Donovan
attack his Twitter Account any means necessary to make Newhouse the Swing Tackle ....!!
He Quit!!! I want no part of someone like that. Pass unless it's for the league minimum and future considerations. Not worth anymore. I would rather go with a scrub than a quitter.

I see. Yeah, I wouldn't want a quitter on the team. He'd have to be truly sorry; he'd have to repent truly and who he wants it. That ain't happening for the Giants as they don't know him. An interview isn't very revealing as we say what people want to hear.

Solari coached Davis with the 49ers. They know him
He may have quit the 9ers, but to be fair to him, they've gone through (and were going through) the ringer in the time he's been absent.
But, I remember the playoff game we had against the 9ers in 2011. Davis was a beast. He's a mauling type and an emotional guy. He could be a leader for our OL. A Vet presence and a pure RT who could open up the run game unlike the other OT options we've seen this offseason.
I'm taking a wait and see attitude on how this pans out. But, I think we'd be better with A Davis on the OL.

Good point, don't know why this connection didn't pop into my head. This is to our advantage should Davis want to be reinstated and traded. I mean, from a talent standpoint he is an upgrade over Newhouse. If he doesn't start game 1 so be it but he will eventually become the starter.
I think everyone is exaggerating how poor our right side really is. I'm all for improvement but its happening whether we bring in new people are not.
And I for sure would rather have Newhouse or anyone else on the roster over guys whose commitment and heart would always be in question.
Continuity will help the Jerry / Newhouse tandem improve. Coach Solari is one of the best as well and that will help. I'm with you, I am not as worried about the right side as others are BUT I still don't think either Jerry or Newhouse will ever be better than "eh, ok" run blockers. I hope I'm wrong. They'll be BETTER but not leaps and bounds better.
It will be interesting to see if Reese pursues RT Davis. I guarantee you there will be a local newspaper article or two about him tomorrow. He is after-all a Rutgers product; just getting re-instated; and has a coach Solari connection.
He didn't feel right weeks after the head injury and decided to take some time off.
Anybody calling the guy a quitter or lacking heart is a damn fool. Some of the comments here are embarrassing even by the meathead standards we expect on BBI.

Oh is that why he quit, what time do you want to come by and buy that bridge I'm selling?

Being that you are so confident you know the "real" reason....please impart some knowledge and tell us all what you know
He isn't the first guy that wants out of Frisco ....
Without outing anyone I think i have seen a few remarks by past players some had to do with Hargaugh others management
so what if he quit were not behind the scenes or in the
locker room and I think when healthy is a market-ably a
superior RT than Marshall ....
I think RT could be the missing piece to a Much improved
run game especially with the Will Johnson to go along with
improved health and continuity ..
Of his NFL career he got a concussion at mid season 2014. In the weeks after the hit he talked about headaches, issues with sight and speech. He said at the time the lingering effects scared him. At the end of the season he decided to take time off to heal.
He was an opening day rookie starter.
He never missed a start in his career.
He had 10+ million in the bank at 25 years old.
He returned about $5 million to SF.
He said it might be 1 year. It has been. And now he wants to play again.

Deal to be announced shortly....
Deal with San Francisco, right?
Why would you think that?
I know. I was just goofing on SGMen.

He quit to let his body heal. We need a RT.

If he's made available we should have interest...but not 'at any cost' by any means.

This reminded me of one of my favorite scenes from Taxi....
