#Mets Game 98 of 162, vs. STL:

Reyes 3B
Granderson RF
Cespedes LF
Loney 1B
Johnson 2B
Cabrera SS
Conforto CF
Rivera C
Syndergaard RHP

Walker
Metnut : 7/25/2016 3:36 pm : link
and Rivera start again tonight. Flores, Walker, D'arnaud all benched. Loney/Johnson/Cabrera are 4-6 hitters.

Is this really the best we can do in such an important series? Oh well, hopefully Thor is on his game tonight.
Rivera
sphinx : 7/25/2016 3:55 pm : link
in addition to seemingly being Thor's catcher he has actually been more productive RBI-wise than TdA ... in 31 fewer PAs he's got 5 more

Walker

Walker gets 2nd day off. #Mets think recent slump fatigue-related, so pressing reset button. If doesnt work, could be getting more rest"

Reyes

Terry says OF not in the immediate mix for Reyes.

Doesn't seem like a surprise, I thought Rivera was going to catch all of Syndergaard's games.

He might be feeling the pressure of playing in nyc. A local PA kid who was lucky enough to play most of his career with pirates organization.

Or he could just be one of those guys who slips at 30. Has a very long swing

Seems like a good guy, But the part of the season where you let guys work their way out of slumps is over. He has to produce or he sits. I'd actually like to trade him back to Pirates for Niese. GM claimed he was sorry he made the trade for Niese. But somehow I get the feeling he would demand more than Walker at this point

The tarp is on the field here at Citi Field as rain starts to fall and thunder and lightning strikes.

Alderson on trades: "I think realistically, the bullpen is the area we can get someone." Says it's unlikely #Mets acquire a starter or bat.

Alderson says clubs keep asking for top-tier prospects and he has no appetite to trade them.

Sandy Alderson says a prominent recent #Mets trade rumor -- presumably Jonathan Lucroy -- was "dead on arrival."

Alderson likes to underpromise and overdeliver. That said, its been pretty clear that a big move would be tough for Mets. Not enough chips.

Also, Alderson really, really loves the word #sizzle at deadline and at winter meetings. Its his #KickTheTires.

We should all remember Sandy never reveals his hand this far away from deadline-7 days is an eternity-market will twist so much till then

Update: The #Cardinals have arrived at Citi Field.

I believe their plane had mechanical problems in adition to a night game yesterday which got them into NY sometime this AM

Rosario?

Marc Carig
Anyway, as I said last night, I think theres an argument to be made for Mets to put Rosario in play and swing for the fences...

But I can see the argument for making more modest improvement and hoping that this offense stops underperforming.

The Mets are in favorable position in one regard as they head into the trade deadline. They play 15 of their next 20 games at Citi Field, with 10 home games against the Rockies, Padres and Diamondbacks. Those three teams are a combined 33 games under .500.

"This is when good teams take off," said Mets manager Terry Collins. We need to take off."

Tonight's game has been postponed, the #Mets say. A old-fashioned straight doubleheader tomorrow starting at 4:10 p.m. ET.

Would guess: Mets now have Colon start Sunday (as scheduled), and push Syndergaard to Monday to get extra day, face Yankees.

Anthony DiComo
With Sean Gilmartin on the DL, I wonder if this rainout won't result in Gabriel Ynoa making his big league debut in a spot start Saturday.

Mets could have gotten this game in
CMicks3110 : 7/25/2016 7:39 pm : link
I hate giving the tired cardinals a day of rest. Looking at the radar, they definitely could get it in.
Jim Henderson
sphinx : 7/25/2016 8:06 pm : link
should be coming back soon. He's had outing s in Vegas, 5 Ks, 1 BB, 0 hits. 2 games were back to back.

Can we swap Colon & Syndergaard tomorrow
spike : 7/25/2016 8:26 pm : link
to give us a better chance of not being swept?

Colon vs their ace Martinez
our ace Syndergaard vs the up and down Jaime Garcia
Phillies vs Marlins
spike : 7/25/2016 9:17 pm : link
0 - 0 bottom 7

Marlins have 1 hit so far.
as per Adam Rubin
spike : 7/25/2016 9:22 pm : link

Seth Lugo is the obvious choice on the major league roster for that spot start and would save roster machinations.
but Ynoa

Dear Empire State Building: Wasn't me (For liability purposes only)

when you see Cespedes strut to the batters box tonight, smile
Victor in CT : 7/26/2016 8:40 am : link
and remember that if not for a failed physical, the Mets would have Sandy's guy Carlos Gomez and his beefy .209 avg batting 3rd and playing LF. UGH!
That doctor saved our asses big time
Eric on Li : 7/26/2016 9:20 am : link
Gomez was a perfect fit to upgrade the team last year (plus he had the extra year like Lucroy this year) so it made sense to go after him. He's made some good plays in CF over that time but his complete offensive fall-off has been Jason Bayesque.

NOBODY here saw it coming. ;)
hate to use the "S" word, but if you look at his career arc

wanting to give Duda a 100M extension and acting like losing Cespedes wouldn't be a big deal this past offseason. Has the Matt Den Dekker breakout happened yet?

The 100 million I suggested was in lieu of the years he was already getting paid(2-3 years left). So yes, I absolutely would have given Duda a 5/6 year deal at 100 million. Still would have been a steal. Cespedes was my number one offseason target. Said it early and often. I liked MDD but breakout? I think your confused on that one.
Oh and Zobrist on a 4 year deal
ZGiants98 : 7/26/2016 9:54 am : link
100% would have sucked.
I actually like Loney in the Mets lineupHe doesn't have the pure power
Victor in CT : 7/26/2016 9:59 am : link
that Duda has, but he can flat out hit and keep rallies going, and he's a stellar 1B.
