NFT: Mets Let's play two! Mets and Cardinals

ZGiants98 : 7/26/2016 9:39 am
-Syndergaard Vs Carlos Martinez

-Colon VS Jaime Garcia

-Mets will need a spot starter Saturday due to the doubleheader

-Gilmartin to DL. Not an option

-Sandy says no big deals (1. This lets teams know we are not desperate. 2.) Prevents fans from being let down IMO)

Lugo
I actually really do hope the Mets bring in "some"
ZGiants98 : 7/26/2016 10:45 am : link
back end starter. I keep mentioning Cashner but really we just need a body. We are getting dangerously thin. Lugo starting this Saturday(if he does) is a perfect example of this.
Kept hearing that Lucroy was a potential fit
Rory : 7/26/2016 11:21 am : link
but not sure that he's a player that would put the Mets over the top.

I liked both of those RP's from the brewers wonder if there is life there.

I'm starting to lean in the direction that this is just not the year to go all in.

IMO Its all about Wheeler and Cesp

There aren't really a lot of positions that make sense. They have a catcher who is hitting and a glut of players both in the outfield and infield. Unless benching guys like Conforto, Granderson, Reyes, act. sound like a good idea there isn't much we can do barring a trade for a true star and we aren't gutting our system for one. Trading for a TOR starter doesn't make a lot of sense either as we will still have a postseason rotation of Thor, deGrom, Matz, and Wheeler/Colon.

Lucroy probably helps us a little but not if you are giving up big pieces. TDA's been over a wRC+ of 100 since he's been back (130s last year). Going from that to Lucroy's whopping 121 currently(111 career) certainly isn't transforming this team.
Definitely hard to see a quick fix
Vanzetti : 7/26/2016 11:40 am : link
The problem with the Mets lineup is mediocrity across the board. There is nobody who "sucks" . Everyone is ok except maybe for Walker, who is in a deep slump.

I don't see Lucroy significantly out producing TDA the next two months--at least not enough to trade big prospects for him
I am the first one to scream from the rafters
bhill410 : 7/26/2016 11:41 am : link
about how cheap the mets are. But I dont think their passive approach this trading deadline is the result of finances. Frankly, I think it was quite apparent from the jump of the season that we would not be getting reinforcements via the trade outside of a bench guy or a bull pen guy. We got lucky (assuming you like him) with reyes for free, and really could have gotten lucky if we opened up the wallets for a reasonable contract with Guriel. There arent any impact center fielders out there and they would rather hold onto prospects and roll the dice with Looney until Duda gets back. We made our bed with Walker and Cabrera so there is little to no chance they deviate from that path now. Yes our offense is mediocre, but there arent many obvious spots where you can upgrade.
I agree with Rory and others
Vanzetti : 7/26/2016 11:47 am : link
That this might be the year to stay the course. Mets have the talent to play better. They need Thor Matz and Degrom to go on a run and they need to have a lineup that plays the best hitters.

If those two things happen, Mets can take the division or at least make the playoffs as a wildcard. SF Giants won the WS as a wildcard. If season ended today, Mets ARE the wildcard. So all they have to do is not lose ground
I agree with both of you
ZGiants98 : 7/26/2016 11:50 am : link
although the offense "shouldn't be as mediocre" as they have been. Conforto doesn't have "mediocre" upside" . Granderson was our MVP last year. Walker has been much better than he's shown this year in his career. Loney's been a fine placeholder but we need some scary thunder back in the middle of the lineup protecting Ces. We need Duda and we need the rest of the lineup to start playing up to the back of their baseball cards. That and a little luck to start going our way. We are still very high in hard hit % and our overall BABIP is low. This should start to average out more over the next couple months.
Kind of strange
ZGiants98 : 7/26/2016 11:58 am : link
That our pen might actually be the strength of the team but it's the only really spot that makes sense to add an upgrade.

Terry regularly ran out some awful lineups. I wonder if it is his subtle way of trying to light a fire under Sandy by displaying how thin their bench is. Maybe he is sending the front office a message.

Can't get a hit with runners in scoring position and stranding runners over and over and over again.

Even kept it to a 1 run game without using Reed or Familia. Robles, Blevins, Goeddel and Bastardo all did a really good job and we couldn't do shit offensively outside of a HR yet again.

This team is so frustrating. It seems impossible for them to continue to be this bad with RISP but it just never seems to get any better and it's almost August now. Maybe this is just what the Mets are. Ugh.

I'd roll with what they have or do minor tinkering with major league parts, not prospects other than guys I don't think fit long-term like Cecchini or even Nimmo. Starting to think Nimmo might be Kirk N part 2.

they do have the starting pitching to stay in the race, so you never know, I just wouldn't force anything (maybe it's the Kazmir scars still there).

We've seen too much evidence of them not being disciplined enough, focused enough or just plain good enough when it comes to doing the little things especially in big spots. I know there will be plenty of talk of injuries but any way you slice it they're just not getting it done and it's been beyond disappointing.

Guy is the OBP king. Best overall year of his career was in 2015. Bad start to this year but absolutely on fire lately. Aside from 2014, when he was injured, can almost pencil him in for 6.0+ War each year.

I understand trade is unrealistic for many reasons, but if you want to maximize the Mets chances of winning a ring in the next three years, he'd really help.

arcarsenal : 7/27/2016 9:49 am : link
Big win to get the split. The Nationals are in trouble with Papelbon and the Yankees keep winning so they may not even get to a point where they make Miller available. If they do, the price is going to be incredibly steep.

Hard to believe we're only 4.5 back right now.. the Nats really have missed some prime opportunities to run away with this thing. I love that we're still on their tails but we can't let up. We have to take advantage of the schedule we have coming up and go on a serious run.

Familia's sinker was as good as I've ever seen it last night. Absolute filth. And what else can you say about Reed? The guy has been incredible. 0.00 ERA in his last 13+ innings. Has like 20 K's and 1 BB in that span. He and Jeurys are one hell of a 1-2 punch right now and I love Robles as the 7th inning guy.

Gotta hit and score more runs, though. Was nice to see Droobie finally break that skid. And we really need to take this series. Hopefully the offense can get to Wainwright and Verrett can keep us in it.
If Conforto and Walker get going we will go on a run

but at this point it's hard to figure out what it's going to take for that to happen. The BP, like the first half of last year has been our team MVP. We get just enough SP and hitting, then they continue to not create self inflicted wounds. Glad the FO isn't taking them for granted though because there's a real risk of wearing these guys out, especially once the race gets tighter.

but if the Mets were willing to absord the entire Joey Votto contract, what else would they need to offer Cinci to bring him to Citi Field?

He basically gets paid $22.5M until 2023. I doubt the Mets would want to take on the entire contract, but talk about adding some juice to the offense...

Wild prediction... I predict Votto is traded to the Blue Jays this off-season.
