Chris in Philly : 7/26/2016 11:00 am
The exodus continues. No word on if he's going anywhere or just retiring...

Great.

He was awful.
He never bothered me...

and I even really liked him back in the old days...
He was one of the few good things about ESPN
steve in ky : 7/26/2016 11:08 am : link
and would at least counterbalance the overdone shtick.

well said. Don't really have an opinion on him one way or the other.

IIRC his final game was Super Bowl XXI, when he hurt his knee early and missed most of the game.

Was he awful or did you just not like him? difference
He was great
AP in Halfmoon : 7/26/2016 11:16 am : link
The talking head should be "invisible" not the star of the broadcast.
In the Prime Time days, he was the best
Ben in Tampa : 7/26/2016 11:21 am : link
but the ESPN clown show really dragged him down with it. Still, probably the most likable guy on the Sunday and Monday countdown shows.
I don't watch the ESPN pre-game shows
bceagle05 : 7/26/2016 11:29 am : link
but they're adding Hasselback, Woodson, Moss and maybe Dilfer to replace Carter, Ditka, Keyshawn and now Jackson. That's a much-improved lineup. Moss will be the clown of the group, but the other three are pretty sharp guys.
I don't see Moss playing the clown
steve in ky : 7/26/2016 11:32 am : link
the few times I have seen him he seems to actually try to offer actual insight. Whether he will be good or not is yet to be seen but I don't see him going the clown route. I guess if he begins to fail who knows.

Agreed, the few times I've seen Moss he's come across as reasonably professional and well spoken, not the usual clown show
Go watch some clips from him....

...on youtube from the late 80's when he first started. About as clean of a transition as I've ever seen - he was pretty polished from day 1.

You nailed it: "back in the old days." Then he got caught up with the Bermn/ESPN Schtick. The problem was hat he was terrible at it. Awkward, unfunny, didn't belong. He would have done well with NFLN, had they continued with their promising beginning rather than ape ESPN..
I give Moss
lugnut : 7/26/2016 11:44 am : link
a lot of credit. He's damn near transformed himself. I recall him as being virtually unintelligible with that WV mush-mouth and youthfulness, but now, yeah he's actually well spoken. Haven't seen him that much and I'm not real sure of his content, but he's better than being the clown. Good to see, good for him.
TJ was the only voice of reason and restraint
George : 7/26/2016 11:48 am : link
on a panel of arrogant, bombastic, and not very bright colleagues. He will be missed, if for no other reason than that the choir of dildos he's left behind are still going to be on set, making all of our IQs diminish just a little bit every time we watch, but now without the respite of Tom Jackson telling them to STFU.
Well said

I really like Randy

Moss. He's a smart guy and he'll do well. He was an incredible talent who didn't help himself in the early days of his career, but he has grown on me.
Moss does a lot of work...
FatMan in Charlotte : 7/26/2016 12:17 pm : link
here as his son plays for a Charlotte HS.

I met him last year and really was impressed at how well spoken he was and how humble he's become and he also had a great personality.

He seems to be one guy who matured and transformed himself.

I think he'll be very good on ESPN
Sorry to see Tom go
weeg in the bronx : 7/26/2016 12:18 pm : link
He was insightful without being overbearing.
I love John Madden, but I always laugh at the memory
YelbertonA : 7/26/2016 12:49 pm : link
of TJ running by Madden after a Denver interception and yelling out "It's all over Fat Man!"
Always Liked TJ...
Bluesbreaker : 7/26/2016 2:46 pm : link
but the ESPN Bermanators dragged him into there circus ..
used to watch NFL primetime all the time.
shabu : 7/26/2016 4:01 pm : link
I used to watch NFL primetime all the time in the late 90s and early 2000s...

I always liked Tom Jackson and thought he and Berman had some more realistic views of the NFL.

New lineup is interesting however.
I have not watched
Hades07 : 7/26/2016 7:05 pm : link
ESPN for anything but games in years, and I fast-forward through everything but the game. I can't comment on how he has been recently, but in the past I always liked him on air.
Many viewers left ESPN
Giants2012 : 7/26/2016 9:16 pm : link
well before this insignificant announcement
Funny
Hades07 : 7/26/2016 9:24 pm : link
There was a time when I had ESPN on constantly when home, I really don't know how long it has been since I last watched. I haven't since my 9 year old was born but I had already not been watching for a while by then.
Come on

Holy shit!

Your wife gave birth to a 9 year old? That's some uterus.
I wonder
Kulish29 : 7/27/2016 1:51 am : link
Are these people really leaving, or are they being forced out so Disney can bring in a younger, more relatable set of on air 'talent'?
