the Memphis Red Birds pulled Alex Reyes from his start in AAA after just 3 innings and 7 K's. (2 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk). He's the #2 prospect in the midsesaon top 100 on the Cardinals farm....The price of Miller????? (just kidding, but that would be insane)
We've discussed all that's not right ad nauseum...and yet they are 42-31 since their crappy 9-17 start, and rolling again tonight. And playing pretty well against the good teams (although we do seem to be catching some teams at the right time)
Trouble is they still haven't gained ground on the teams ahead of them
we have become ALMOST competitive. But competitive for the second WC is not the same as being contenders. We could back in, sure, and I hope we do because I won't root against my team. But when your absolute best case scenario is taking a shitty offense and Masahiro Tanaka on the road in a WC game against an ace I'm not sure I like my chances.
Stephen Wright getting shelled tonight was important though. Might goad the Sox into an overpay for another top starter.
We ain't selling folks. Fuck it, embrace it I guess. Go Yanks!
Sweet. Let's embrace another season of mediocrity so we can all sit here at the 2017 deadline and wonder what we can get for Miller who is another year older and has one less year on his extremely affordable contract. Oh and let's also keep Beltran. Because he means so much to the future of this franchise.
Seriously. Cant wait for that.
eh - I take your points but I never root for the teams I follow
No disagreement on the buyer/seller debate, but do you guys sit at home and root for the Yanks to lose? If so, I can't join in on that.
I root for the Yankees to be better again. I also know that, because of the people who have the owners ear, they will abstain from trading off valuable assets because they foolishly believe and convince people they can contend with other teams out there which, is patently false.
This team, as constructed, is not good at all. I do not openly root for them to lose. But I also don't shed a tear or bother with anger and frustration when they lose because, I know it's ultimately better for the franchise in the grand scheme of things.
no matter what, period.
Doesn't mean I don't want to see them sell who they can. Beltran is having a huge season, but I'd trade him in a minute as his time is running out. If Beltran goes, they are done.
I don't want Miller traded, but if it gets a future star, then I'm for it.
I'd love to see Judge up. I'd love to see Sanchez up.

Bryan Mitchell due back in August. Anyone know his status. When he had syrgery in April, they said sometime in August. Is he throwing yet? He would be a nice addition to the BP.
They did in fact sell chapman for great prospects. They are winning. And someone said enjoy mediocrity the last two years except that's not true. The yanks were better than average last year and they are proving to be better than average this year. Hopefully the upward trajectory continues.
Fwiw I don't think Beltran has as much trade value as some want to believe and Miller is so awesome I'd be leery of trading him in the first place. Be careful what you wish for. Miller is a god send. The yanks will be better sooner than later they will have money to spend next season. You sure you want to trade the best and most versatile reliever in baseball?

I agree. Everyone wanting to trade Miller I think is a mistake. There is a reason Chapman and Miller are in demand. Effective closers do not fall off trees. With starters being pulled early theses days( pitch count) your bullpen is very valuable. What good is it if your starter pitches a shutout for 7 and your bullpen gives up the lead and you lose. This happened last week? Sale pitched great and Robertson gave up a 3 run lead? and they loss.
The amount of talent they could get for Miller is enormous
They're not going anywhere this year. They're not going anywhere next year. They'll still have one of the very best relievers in baseball in Betances, and they could try to bring Chapman back as a free agent.
Their goal should be building the nucleus of the next great Yankees era. The return for Miller will be a big block in that foundation.
What they're doing isn't sustainable. Their record is buoyed by scratching out a bunch wins in of one-run games, something that doesn't last over time. They're 17-9 this year. Last year they were 23-24 in one run games, 28-24 two seasons ago.
Are you expecting a beter deal than what the Cubs gave us for Chapman? The Chapman deal was very good. However, prospects most of the time fizzle when or if they make it to the majors. Now if you want to give the Yanks Gallo from texas I agree. They would have to get someone that is ready now or nest year to make an impact IMHO.
Yes, they would get more in return for Miller than Chapman
Chapman is a rental, Miller's under contract for two more years, and Miller is simply the better pitcher. Sure, prospects bust out sometimes.....so wouldn't you want to increase your chances by collecting as much young talent as possible?
People are way too into Gallo IMO. Yes, he has huge power, but with a lousy glove and mediocre contact skills he could easily be just a young version of Mark Reynolds/Adam Dunn.
have to be in play for Miller. Their MO is to hold onto home grown guys, but they have to bite the bullet and bring in a better closer. They have a chance to win the WS this year, but they can't do it with Paplebon.
The Nats are reaching a breaking point with their fans
People are really getting frustrated with them. The fans feel like they should have been better over the past few seasons, and that they are close to a championship if they just had a decent bullpen. They DESPISE Papelbon.
has an article in the Wash Post about it today. I think they are going to regret not getting Chapman. They probably already do regret it. They didn't want to meet the price for Chapman and the Miller price will be higher. The more games they blow between now and the deadline, the better chance I think Miller ends up in Washington, and the Yanks get Gialito and Turner at least.
But I also don't think the Yankees have to do anything with Miller. It's hard to blame them either way and they are in fact within legitimate striking distance of the postseason. I love the chapman trade though. I wanted to convert his ass to assets the second the yanks traded for him. That was great asset mgmt from the yanks.
I don't think the yanks are very good but it's hard to blame them if they stand pat here and stay the course. I'd get on them if they didn't trade chap.
the B prospect you likely get back for Beltran probably isn't worth more to the Yanks than the asses in the seats because he's the only consistent contributor on offense this year, or even the first rounder they might get back should he reject a QO.

I'd give him that qualifying offer. Can't hurt to have his bat around for one more year, especially with ARod having fallen off the cliff.
with the possible exception of the Mets, teams aren't lining up to give ancient OFs contracts at the expense of draft picks. However, he could bet on himself, that a contender would be willing to give up a 2nd or a 3rd rounder after already signing someone and that if not the Yankees would still make him a respectable offer anyway.
I think the value Beltran may have is as an additional chip
I don't think they HAVE to trade Miller. They absolutely can keep him if teams are trying to lowball them. I just think that someone, whether it's Cleveland or Washington or whoever, is going to decide that maximizing their title chances is worth the price.
I think the Yanks need to stockpile hard-throwing starter types.
of Giolito, Turner or Robles, and Lopez as well. The bar has been set. Robles is a prospect on par with Torres, maybe slightly better, and that plus Lopez or Fedde should get it going. If they won't do it, hold onto the best reliever in baseball and win with him next year or wait until someone blinks.
hehe ...
Trouble is they still haven't gained ground on the teams ahead of them
pitching great through 6 but a massive blast to lead off the 7th. 6-2 and Swarzak up in the pen.
Just sayin...
When did Randy Levine start posting on BBI?
Seriously though, if you actually believe this team is a contender, I'd love to sell you the ocean front property I own in the middle of Arizona.

Yes - he has a knee. He'll be back.
