NFT: MLB Trade Deadline Talks

ManningLobsItBurressAlone : 7/27/2016 8:43 am
Figured this was big enough for it's own thread, and maybe for any and all non NYY/NYM trade talk.

According to a Chicago based MLB columnist, the White Sox "love" Red Sox #2 prospect Andrew Benintendi. If trade talks continue to progress with Chris Sale, he could be the front man in a multi player deal.

Can say @whitesox love @RedSox CF Andrew Benintendi. He could be the front man in a multi-player Chris Sale trade if talks progress.

Elsewhere, Papelbon blew his 2nd consecutive save last night with the Nationals prompting Dusty to consider a change at closer.

With Chapman already dealt, they can turn their attention to 3 other trade targets: Andrew Miller, Wade Davis, and David Robertson. With the Nats taking Trea Turner, Giolito, and Robles off the table, Miller and Davis might be out of the question, but Robertson could be an option.
Sale - ( New Window )

yes, which is why the Brewers are shopping him
Greg from LI : 7/29/2016 9:17 am : link
Doesn't make a straight-up deal any less ludicrous, though.
The control matters, but he's not a rental...
Dunedin81 : 7/29/2016 9:18 am : link
he's an All Star with a full year to go and D'Arnaud has played 100+ games three times in his professional career, just once since 2011.
The Mets are going nowhere this season
spike : 7/29/2016 9:23 am : link
So please Sandy, dont overpay for 1.5 seasons of Lucroy
I haven't seen anyone say a straight up deal is fair
Eric on Li : 7/29/2016 9:30 am : link
Supposedly that's an offer the Mets put on the table more than a month ago and every met writer/fan I've seen talk about it recently expects a significant 2nd piece added to the deal. I'd imagine the level of that 2nd (or 3rd) piece is why the Brewers have been scouting the Mets minors for a few weeks. Most expect Rosario/Conforto are off limits, are hoping it won't cost Smith now that he's breaking out, and accepting that if it's one of Cecchini/Herrera/Nimmo going the other way it's a deal you have to make because Lucroy is a big upgrade.

Also, the control argument goes both ways, yes it's huge that Lucroy is under control next year, but TDA has an extra 3 seasons beyond that and even with only 270 AB's last year he was the 6th most valuable catcher in baseball. Though he comes with injury risk, it's hard to envision finding a ready to play replacement better than that with the general weakness at the catcher position around baseball.
maybe include Walker too, bring up Herrara?
Victor in CT : 7/29/2016 9:51 am : link
Brewers then lose the Walker contract, can give a Qualifying Offer, get a draft pick.

Mets get to give Herrara 2 months of MLB experience in prep for next year.
Im open to trading Walker back for Niese
spike : 7/29/2016 10:16 am : link
And play Herrera/Reyes at 2b and Flores/Reyes 3b.

RE: Outside of Sale, none of those guys would particularly scare me

Price looks pretty mediocre this year, and he was awful in the playoffs for Toronto this year. Pomeranz was nothing special before this year and isn't off to a great start in Boston. Steven Wright is a fucking pumpkin ready for the clock to strike midnight and he's been shit over the past month. Porcello is meh. Decent starter, hardly one anyone is particularly worried about.

unbiased take right there
bias?
Greg from LI : 7/29/2016 11:00 am : link
Sure....doesn't refute anything I said though, does it? Do you think that Steven Wright's performance over the first couple of months of the season is an indication of his true ability? Has Rick Porcello been a league-average starter for most of his career? Does Drew Pomeranz have a long track record of success?
Apparently this is actually a much larger deal...
Dunedin81 : 7/29/2016 11:01 am : link
and includes Jarred Cosart, the injured Carter Capps and a couple of other moving parts.

Complete deal: Cashner, Rea, Guerrero to #Marlins. Cosart, Castillo, Capps, Naylor to #Padres. Deal pending review of medicals.
jeez
Greg from LI : 7/29/2016 11:08 am : link
If the Padres got that much for Cashner, then the Yankees might actually get something of use for Nova after all.
Twins get the 86th ranked prospect in baseball for Eduardo Nunez
Victor in CT : 7/29/2016 11:54 am : link
What could the Yankees get for Beltran?

nunez traded - ( New Window )

Someone traded something of value for Eduardo Scissorhands? Baaaahahahaha

All-Star my ass. He's already been regressing like a sonofabitch, putting up a sterling .161/.200/.161 in 13 games since the ASG.
Eduardo Scissorhands!! I love it!!
Victor in CT : 7/29/2016 12:17 pm : link
Maybe they can trade Beltran and Michael Pinata, get something for Pine-ada while he's in a good streak

Too bad. I had had decent hopes for Nuez. He'll be playing outfield soon enough.
he's 29 already. he is what he is.
Victor in CT : 7/29/2016 12:47 pm : link
a bad infielder who probably is a bad outfielder too or he'd already be there.
he's one of the very worst infielders I've ever watched
Greg from LI : 7/29/2016 12:54 pm : link
He's a decent enough hitter, but a hacker who draws walks only at gunpoint, and not a lot of power. His offense isn't good enough to outweight his steel glove, and it's not enough to make him valuable as a DH. Honestly, he's best suited as an NL pinch hitter, a Manny Mota or Gates Brown type.
Morosi says the Nats willing to give up Giolito for Andrew Miller
Eric on Li : 7/29/2016 1:53 pm : link
as a Met fan I fully endorse that.
I always sAid Nunez would make an AllStar game one day

Whatever man
Some chatter of a Moncada Hugwatch...
Dunedin81 : 7/29/2016 11:05 pm : link
and the Sox executives have been incommunicado, canceling a scheduled interview. So we will see.
Whatever the deal was with Moncada seems to have come to naught...
Dunedin81 : 7/30/2016 10:34 am : link
At least so far. Lucky sweepstakes still in effect but Norris of the Padres apparently a better bet to be moved because of asking price. Three way deal for Bruce said to be dead but he likely still gets traded.
