NFT: Job interview question

Gman11 : 7/27/2016 11:24 am
I am going for a third interview with a potential employer. I think the first two interviews have gone well and I would like to get this job as I think it is a good fit for me.

My question, the person that is doing the interviewing sent me an email that said, "Can you come in for a very informal meeting?"

I would normally wear a business suit to any job interview, but do you think it's necessary for a "very informal meeting?"
Dont risk it

suit and tie until you get the job...if theyre cool theyll tell you to lighten up (tie and/or jacket off).

Happened with me at my new company, the managing director made me take off my tie and said "if anyone give you shit, tell them I told you".
Wear the suit

There's no downside in wearing if. There's significant downside in not wearing it.

I interpret that question to mean that the format of the discussion will be informal/conversational as opposed to interviewer asking canned questions to interviewee.
I think the "informal" comment refers to the interview itself,

not your attire. They likely want to get a better idea of who you are as a person, which is a really good sign. You'd probably be OK going business casual (provided that the firm you're interviewing with does the same), but I wouldn't risk it. As others have said, no one is going to ding you for overdressing, but they might for underdressing.

Good luck!

That was my interpretation as well. Suit up...they're looking to have a more laid-back discussion with you, but I didn't take "informal" to mean you are invited to dress down.
Informal Means...

Cutoffs, sandals and no shirt.

You don't want them to think you can't follow instructions, do you?
Jim is right... they could be looking to have one of these

Suit up!

In a vast majority of business situations it is far better to be overdressed then underdressed. Also, its far easier to explain away being overdressed (my recruiter gave me bad info) then explaining being underdressed.

is an informal meeting? they've met you twice. don't let your guard down.

dress up a notch or two above what you think you'd be wearing for the job.

Always assume you're looking to impress.

go with casual dress: dress pants, a nice shirt.
Don't fall for it

DO NOT volunteer too much information. Answer any questions directly and don't start to feel too comfortable. You may then say something and screw yourself.
always suit and tie
UConn4523 : 7/27/2016 1:42 pm : link
I'd wear a suit and tie even if it was an meet and greet. If they don't hire you it won't be because you are over dressed.
Hoodie and sweats

Show them you mean business and summer heat doesn't bother you.
maybe you should
mdc1 : 7/27/2016 2:32 pm : link
inquire with their HR rep and your recruiter to ask why this request is important and any implications if you just wear formal business attire.

Who knows, maybe they want to understand what you think business casual is, maybe they want you to ask questions instead of assuming a style of dress. These are good measures and tests of emotional intelligence as well. Can this guy execute or have "good judgement?".

and if they mention the attire I wouldn't hesitate to explain you didn't want to disrespect the opportunity when meeting b/c you (I) really want to join your company.

means dress down. Otherwise suit and tie.
Yeah go with suit and tie. But if you want to make it a bit informal

then just leave your zipper down.

Good luck!
