As Giants training camp begins

blueblood'11 : 7/27/2016 12:48 pm
I can honestly say I don't know how this season will play itself out. With a new head coach I would assume there will be growing pains. The draft looked very good from top to bottom so it's exciting to see how many will actually make an immediate impact. And the free agent signings made this team, at least on paper, very interesting and viable again.

As a diehard, and in know there are a zillion of us out there, in your minds eye do you find it safe to say that at the very least this team is going to be fun to watch again. I mean it can't get any more frustrating then it was last year. And do you feel they are at this moment a playoff contender given their off season moves.
For me, it's exciting b/c there is a sense of newness and opportunity

three years of the same glaring issues - lack of playmakers, injuries, late game collapses - had a way of just grinding me down as a fan.

There will be losses and pains, no doubt, at least I know the franchise is trying new things.

ON PAPER, yeah, I think they have a shot at the playoffs (partially helped by the crapitude that is the Cowboys and Eagles).

A big -- and I think often overlooked -- question mark for me is the coaching staff. I know very little about them. Are they any good as individuals? Will they mesh well as a staff? If there's a learning/meshing curve, how long will that take to play out? Related, BMac in his first ever gig as HC...We really have no way of knowing how he'll be at it.

Yes, it should be fun to watch. At least I'm interested again, given all our changes and additions. It was very hard to stay tuned last year.
I agree

I'm excited about this year, too.

The key is injuries. We should have the two required elements in today's game, throwing the ball and getting after the QB. Injuries and last second losses have to balance out eventually, right? Unless Reese made a really bad deal with El Diablo for 2011.
Only 16 days until the first pre-season game
Gross Blau Oberst : 7/27/2016 1:25 pm : link
Only 46 days until opening day against the Cowboys.

Doesn't that seem like an awfully short period of time to get ready! Especially for the pre-season game.

13 practices are not enough, and the lack of contact in training camp really doesn't acclimate the players before going full speed live on opening day.

I know, this is an old and repeated storyline. However............

Most exciting season in a while

I would definitely say I am excited about this season in a while..

so many things to play out and watch !

New free agents, New Coaches, OBJ season 3 etc etc.
This offseason was a good as any the Giants have had, maybe ever.

I don't see how folks could not be excited. The FA class was epic. To get three high level defensive players along with resigning JPP and getting Hankins back is a major upgrade talent wise. The top draft choices will be able to contribute without having to be stars right away. We seemed to have finally restocked from the many players lost forever to injury. I don't see any team in the division with any better talent overall. Go Giants.

Informal meetings often spill over to the golf course.
How did that happen?

When I read that there were only 13 practice and 4 pre-season games (or 17 times a guy has a chance to shine and show his skills....) I grimaced in disbelief. I know they are having "meetings" and watching "game film" during the off-season but no contact?

I just want for us to get out of training camp HEALTHIER than we ever have this century! That would be great.

in 46.5 days we'll be 1-0 and that is what I'm really looking forward to. Go to Dallas; stomp them in their house. If we can't beat a Dallas team less their two starting pass rush DE's and their 2nd best LB McClain well we don't deserve to win the NFC East.

The Giants offense and special teams may need to carry us to the 3-0 start I'm predicting. It will be tough to go on the road vs MN and then GB. We could surprise and win both, split or lose both, way too early to tell.

I'm excited about the season starting as we all are, but I just dread the first major injury. I have a feeling who it will be but I won't mention it here (Cruz doesn't count IMO so its not him). I'm just programmed that way I guess. I also wish we had a LB that I can get excited about. Other than that we should have a much better season than last year I think we are a very good bet to win the NFCE.

Moot point. The whole league's under the same time crunch.

I think this season will be an improvement
Gman11 : 7/27/2016 3:16 pm : link
over the last two, but that's not saying much. A 9-7 record would be nice. 10-6 and a playoff berth would be even better. It all depends on how many injuries and to which players.

Point taken about the injuries, but every team has them. Just seems like we've had a ridiculous wave of them. If the injury bug is just reasonable I'd say we can take down 10 wins at least. Now that we don't have Capt. Meltdown doing the clock "managing" anymore.

I believe this is a CBA thing and all teams are under the same guidelines, both off-season and in camp. Today, you have to get the most out of every practice and if you are a rookie you need to practice 13x or at worst 10x if you hope to learn something and be viable.

That is why continuity is so important for teams. I love the fact that our offense is coming back in tact. Even a "new guy" like Cruz, and I mean new in the sense he didn't play in 2015, knows the offense and will gel very quickly. Just stay healthy through camp and pre-season games, that is all I ask and pray for and we will be ready for Dallas week 1. Start 3-0 and be healthy doing it and the division is ours.

Dallas may yet struggle early and be 2-2 out of the gates due to suspensions on defense. It is hard to replace two starting DE's.
Throw Kennard in as well
