NFT: How much do you sleep?

BigBlueDownTheShore : 7/27/2016 3:38 pm
I have sleep apnea, so my sleep in general kind of sucks (I use a CPAP), but I normally get around 6 to 7 hours during the week and get like 8 or 9 on the weekend.

I'm curious for those who only sleep 4 to 5 hours a night, how it effects you. Also for those 4 to 5 hour people, do you guys snore?
4 to 5 here...
RC02XX : 7/27/2016 3:50 pm : link
and I don't usually snore although my wife says that sometimes I do until she moves me.

I'm used to that many hours of sleep, so it doesn't really impact me too much. And since I have two rugrats, I don't usually get a chance to nap much.
I'm a six hour person...
okiegiant : 7/27/2016 3:54 pm : link
Usually from about eleven to five(ish).

But I also nap about an hour almost every day.
generally 9 hours 10pm-7am

about 4 hours a night. I go to bed around 330 and wake up around 730.

Been on that type of schedule since im basically 14 years old, so 15 years now. I thought giving up soda last september would help, but I still wind up staying up real late all the time
and no I do not snore
MookGiants : 7/27/2016 3:59 pm : link
.
Most of the times just a few hours
steve in ky : 7/27/2016 4:05 pm : link
and periodically I simply don't seem very tired and stay awake all night. Then as I guess as I need it sometimes I will sleep solid for eight or nine hours.

How do you know?
I work from home
pjcas18 : 7/27/2016 4:09 pm : link
so my schedule if I'm not traveling is weird.

I'll be up until 2 or 3 sometimes and roll out of bed around 8.

other times at home if I don't want to be up late I have a few drinks before bed (like I do when I'm traveling) to help fall asleep. Then I'm usually out by midnight.
6 is about average for me
Jim in Fairfax : 7/27/2016 4:12 pm : link
Usually 7-8 on the weekends if I don't need to be up early for something.

7 hours per night, but with a 5 month old at home who is still sleep training, it is not yet back to a consistent 7 hours.
it really depends
UConn4523 : 7/27/2016 4:34 pm : link
we have an 11 month old and right now she sleeps well so I can get 8 or 9 hours if I wanted to, but I think that's too much sleep (end up just being more tired the next day) so I'll try and go to be at 11 and wake up at 6.

I can function fine on 5 hours, and did when my daughter was really young, but 8 is my max, anything more sucks, IMO.
I do occasionally
Beer Man : 7/27/2016 4:35 pm : link
snore, but not often. I'm helped by the fact that it doesn't take me long to fall asleep, and if I had to I could fall asleep on a close-line. I also wake-up the overwhelming majority of the time without the aide of an alarm clock.
I sleep about 5 hours, and no I don't snore

Sometimes a bit less, sometimes (well, rarely) a bit more. I can't go to bed if I'm not really tired - I start becoming obsessed that I'm not falling asleep, looking at the clock, etc. Plus it's the only part of the day where I get any solitude and peace and quiet. I stay up until I feel myself start dozing off which is usually between 12 and 1, sometimes later, and I get up at 6. On the weekends, my kids are always up by 7-7:30, so no sleeping in then either.

Every now and then I'll have a night where I'm just really tired early and I'll go to bed around 10. That's maybe once or twice a month.

"cantankerous" without it?!?!?

and with it?
now, back before kids, I'd sleep late as hell on the weekend
Greg from LI : 7/27/2016 4:46 pm : link
I never used to get up on a weekend earlier than 9. Now, I don't think I've slept past 9 in eight years or so.
I generally get about 6 interupted hours at night.
aquidneck : 7/27/2016 4:54 pm : link
Start my day often at 3 or 4 AM after being up two or three times in night to pee, etc.

Fortunately I'm retired and lead a life of extraordinary leisure. Common for me to take a nap during the day, not unheard of to take two. From as little as 20 minutes to as much as two hours each.
I try for 6-9 a night depends on what I'm doing and where I am
Patrick77 : 7/27/2016 5:14 pm : link
I get up at 5:30 on week days, any time before 9:00 on weekends.
Weekdays I get 4-8 hours depending on where I am staying. Probably average 5-6 on week days.

Weekends are all over the map too. Sometimes 9 hours, other times 6, probably averages out to 7-8 on weekends. I only snore if I sleep on my back, which usually means I'm drunk.
about 6
mitch300 : 7/27/2016 5:21 pm : link
When I was younger I was able to sleep in on weekends getting up like 11. Now I'm up by 7 and at times it pisses me off. It is nice though getting things done early in the morning on weekends.
7 1/2 to 8
Rick5 : 7/27/2016 5:24 pm : link
Unless you are a short-sleeper (which is rare), sleeping significantly less than 7 hours or more than nine doesn't lead to very pretty findings in the epidemiological literature.

I get about 2 hours. The rest of the time I'm catching up on all of gidie's threads he posted that day.
7-8 hours nightly...
BC Eagles94 : 7/27/2016 5:25 pm : link
I can't see how people operate on 4-5 hours consistently. I guess your body just gets used to whatever you typically get. But that will catch up to people's health later on. That simply isn't enough sleep.

Danny Kanell : 7/27/2016 5:35 pm : link
7 hours average weeknights, 8-9 on the weekends. Never nap though.
On work days, 3-4
Wuphat : 7/27/2016 5:37 pm : link
Non work days, 5-6. Once in awhile I might hit 8.

About 6 hours during the week
ZogZerg : 7/27/2016 5:50 pm : link
Maybe 7 on the weekends.
I need a full 8 hour window.
arcarsenal : 7/27/2016 6:19 pm : link
Because I don't actually sleep for 8 hours. I wake up about 3x a night. I have no trouble falling back asleep but between the time it takes me to actually fall asleep to begin with and the waking up a few times I wind up actually sleeping for about 6 1/2 hours.

Less than 6 hours of sleep is no good for me. I'm getting fucking old.
For me it's not even about the number of hours I sleep,
RC02XX : 7/27/2016 7:53 pm : link
But when I start feeling tired that's the issue. I could have felt tired as hell all day, but once it hits 9pm or so, I'm wide awake. I then usually get tired again around 1 or 2am.

For months, my schedule used to be awake from 12pm to 6am as all of our missions happened late as fuck. So I got used to that kind of a schedule. Come 6am when I go to work these days, I'm groggy as hell.
I dont get really good sleep maybe five or six hours.
ed90631 : 7/27/2016 8:26 pm : link
but with all the noise at my job that's not surprising.

I cant sleep at home....to many fun things to do.
about 6-7hrs average
J : 7/27/2016 8:26 pm : link
working nights on a CWW and needing to sleep during the day 3-5 nights, my sleep can be royally screwed by:
1. lawnmowers
2. shitty mufflers/tailpipes (heh)
3. garbage trucks
4. neighbors

plus if I happen to roll on my stomach i'll start kicking and my lower back will hurt
6-7 hours

But I do love to sleep in on the weekends...

Never been a nap guy...but as I get older...naps make me happy
Try to never get less than 6, usually 10:30-11:30 pm to 5:30 am
mfsd : 7/27/2016 10:29 pm : link
Also try to make sure at least once a week I get a solid 8+

I feel like such a sloth reading some of your sleep habits. Since getting into restaurants, my sleep times are nuts. Im not even going to tell you. Lol, I usually cant get away with less than 9 (never tried to consistently). I have a very tough time getting up.

As far as naps, I cant go to sleep if I cant get a full 2 hours. Any less and Im out of it. It also takes a lot to get me to FALL asleep. Cant sleep on buses unless exhausted.
Typically 5-6 is good.
Beezer : 7/28/2016 1:29 pm : link
My wife says I only snore if I am REALLY tired. So only occasionally.

Like some others have said, if I go a string of days straight with 4-5 hours, I'll typically, eventually go to bed early one night by maybe 8 or 8:30 and get a full 9-plus hours. But that, too, is only occasionally.
