I mean you're going to find a unit on any team that is a question mark. We have the same one (as well as our LB/S) but I think Forte was a good signing for them. They have two very good WR's now, their defense should be top 5 in football.. maybe top 3.
Going to be an interesting year in NY for football. I think both teams are going in with pretty good rosters. Their schedule is a lot tougher than ours, though.

I don't really hate the Jets. Rex was annoying but it isn't like we are even in the same conference. I hope they finish first in their division and knock the Pats out.

Yeah, I like Bowles. I don't mind the Jets. I'll admit I get a little bit of a rise out of their shortcomings but it wouldn't bother me if they had a good season.
as Geno Smith's backup. He overachieved when he was thrust into the starting role when no one expected him to be more than a game manager.
This year, there are some pretty strange expectations for him to slip in as a Top 15 starter. But Fitzpatrick is Fitzpatrick. With a playoff berth on the line, didn't he throw three picks in the second half of the final game?
But the Jets have a really, really hard schedule. If you look at the teams they faced last year, It was one of the easier slates I've ever seen by the time the season ended. They may be a tad overrated because of that.
If anything, in the world of "let's lose so we can build a team and win big" (which I hate), they may have been better off not signing Fitz and just letting Geno Smith pilot them towards a 5-11 ish record (and a high pick). Instead, they're probably headed towards a 7-9 at best with Fitz and that schedule. But with Brady out it makes some sense at least to give it a shot.
I think part of the reason why he was so effective last year is that they literally played a JV schedule (including our ferocious Giant defense). He's still better than smith though.
Can he keep a defense from cheating up? No he has a weak arm.
Do the Jets have receivers who could use a strong arm? Yes
Does he have developmental potential? No, the arm is what is is.
Did he take them to the playoffs last year? No he has a weak arm and came up real small in the big game.
I am not a Geno Smith fan. I am a fan of giving him a real chance now that he has a supporting cast. He may well fail, but the worst thing that could happen is they do not make the playoffs. They certainly are not making the playoffs under Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Didn't think they had the cap room to fit him. Anyone know if they made other moves to get under? Or did the Wilkerson deal give them the cushion they needed?

They're still over but they have time to get back under. Not sure what the move will be. Not sure what they're going to do with the QB's. They have 4 of them now.. they kind of have to keep Hackenberg since they spent a 2nd rder on him.. are they going to cut Geno or Petty loose? Who knows.

Why is it a stupid deal? It's one year and he gives them the best chance to win games this year considering what the other options were. They won 10 games last year and Fitz had an excellent season. Do I see him replicating that? No. But if the alternative was Geno smith, it was a no brainer to go with Fitz for another year. Geno is awful. He will never be a passable NFL QB.
Based on this logic Eli Manning is awful. Oh that's right he is white and therefore could develop.
Based on this logic a QB can do everything even without receivers. Had none first year, and a mostly hurt Decker second year.
Ignores last 4 games Geno started (Decker close to healthy). Geno performed better than RF could ever hope to. He even had a perfect rating in one of those games.
Jets have a much higher ceiling with Geno. The floor is also substantially lower, I know. I don't consider this important this year because if RF did not take them to the playoffs last year, he is certainly not taking them this year.

What the hell does this even mean? And what does it have to do with race? I don't give a shit what color Geno Smith is, he's never looked like a good NFL QB.
Oh, he put up big numbers in a completely meaningless game against Miami to close out 2014. Wow. Impressive.
Not sure what 4 games you're even referring to. The 3 games he started prior to that he threw for 210 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT.. 179 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT and 254 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. That's impressive?
They're a better team with Fitzpatrick right now and there's no long-term commitment. It was a no-brainer to bring him back even if I don't see them replicating last year because their schedule is exponentially more difficult.
Brutal schedule but they really don't have many weak links.
Agreed, they do have a solid, deep team, but they still need a QB. Fitzpatrick has been a journeyman for a reason. Until they get that figured out, I can't see them beating NE. And, as you said, they have a rough sked.
He wanted $18 per originally. I don't know how much lower they were going to get him.
O-line is a question mark. Clady hasn't stayed healthy in a while - Mangold missed a few games last year
If it is anywhere it is probably their OL. Man, time flies. It wasn't too long ago that they had one of the best OLs.

Agreed. Not even close actually. Bet Marshall is happy.

GENO wouldnt have done anything.
Are the jets going to keep 4 QBS?
Petty odd man out?

IF he performs well again, he's going to get a really good pay day. IF he doesn't, he's back to one year deals at a far reduced price.
at his age, I don't think I would have risked it
It's really hard to feel bad for a guy who had no other suitors, who gets 12 mil for a year's work.
