In other words we have two keepers, I can trade one but then I can only keep one player and in order to trade a player at this point i have to keep him.
It seems weird that you could trade a 3rd player - it's like your roster is still 17 deep or whatever it was at the end of last year.
if you can trade AP or whoever for a draft pick and keep the other two I'd do it, why not. I like AP and Gurley best, but if you get a high pick for AP keeping Charles and Gurley isn't a bad second choice.
Charles coming off knee injury and the KC backfield is so muddled. Ware going to get major carries and GL. Crap wish they paid me those Yahoo and ESPN "experts" to tell you that. They got some scam going those guys.
He wants to trade a 7th for AP. Should I push for a 4 or 5? First 2 Rounds are used on keepers.
7th in a keeper league when the top 24 picks (assuming 12 team) are pretty much gone is more like a 9th round pick.
I'd hold out for more
He said the 1st 2 rounds are the keeper rounds, so it's still a 7th rounder.
I always struggle with the types of trades. From the team trading AP's side, I don't buy the argument that getting any pick is better than just throwing a good player back. When you trade AP, you are strengthening one of your opponents who would be forced to keep a lesser player if no trade is made. Also, the more good players that are available the better player you will get with your first couple of picks. So throwing Charles back in the pool may be the extra player needed to push a guy you want down to you with your first non-keeper pick.
From the team trading for AP, I'd have a hard time giving up my first non-keeper pick for him. I'd have to take into account the value of the player I would otherwise keep plus the value of the player I'd take with that pick and weigh having those 2 players vs AP.
I probably wouldn't do the trade for anything less than his 5th or 6th round pick, but that would depend in part on league setup.
and then trade a 3rd. Wouldn't you only be able to trade someone on your roster (1 of the 2 keepers)?
If you aren't planning on keeping AP then whatever you get for him is a bonus since he'd be gone with no compensation anyway (if I'm reading the scenario correctly). A 7th isn't very good, but its better than nothing especially when you aren't keeping him anyway.

that was my initial reaction. this would not be allowed in my league. once the season ends only 2 players per team can be kept/transacted. meaning I can't trade a player for picks that I'm not keeping.
We don't lock keeper until 8/1 (with an out only in the event of suspension or out for the season injury) but even up until that time if I trade someone I have to count them as a keeper.
I am keeping Gurley (5th round pick) and Cooper (6th round pick) and then I traded my 1st round pick for Beckham. Because I did that the guy I traded with HAS to consider Beckham one of his keepers and can only keep 1 more player.

I'm surprised a league would allow this.
The keeper league I'm in allows it as well. We keep 3 and keepers lock a week before the draft. You can trade players for players and/or picks, there just have to be an equal number of picks involved so that every team leaves the draft with 16 players.
league rules allow for waaaay too much potential jockeying at essentially any price. I'd hate to have something this drastic happen right before the draft, especially for a player not on your roster. Seems very strange.

We can do that (trade picks for next year's draft) during the season (though not until after week 7 (our halfway point)) to discourage early tanking.
I can trade picks during the season for next year, but not once the season ends. we too need to make sure the draft picks equal out, but I like the way we have it.
I don't know how his keeper rules are set up. However, if he can only keep 2 players and trade Peterson for a draft pick, that's a great deal.

That is what I am getting at. It is kind of a no-brainer if that is the case.
