History

Giants Birthdays 7-28

Gene Ceppetelli C W-PHI 1969 NYG 1969 7-28-1942
A CFL veteran who played on three championship teams before signing with the Eagles, he was signed by the Giants for his LS abilities as the Giants placed their LS Chuck Hinton on IR. After his brief stay with the Giants he would return to the CFL where he would play on a 4th CFL championship team.
.
Lane Howell T D15-Grambling 1963 NYG 1963-1964 7-28-1941
The Giants who initially viewed Howell as a DT or C candidate, were impressed with him after he filled in for both Jack Stroud and Roosevelt Brown during the 1963 season. OL coach Ed Kolman called him in 1963 "He's one of the finest prospects we’ve ever had." After a difficult 1964 when the Giants OL collapsed and players such as Roger Anderson moved past Howell on the depth chart, Howell was traded to Philadelphia for LG Pete Case. In Philadelphia Howell played on losing football teams but assimilated into a good OL that restored HOF's like Bob Brown and Jim Ringo. Howell would earn plaudits from his teammates for being a good team leader and a player that would stand up for others.

Frank Molden DT W-PHI 1969 NYG 1969 7-28-1942
Briefly was a Giant in 1969 as the team turned to veteran DT's like Molden (Eagles), Joe Sczcecko (Falcons), Frank Parker (Steelers), and John Johnson (Bears) to fill a gaping hole at DT.

Corey Raymond LCB/RCB UDFA-LSU 1982 NYG 1992-1994 7-28-1969
UDFA who made the team and had three interceptions in three seasons; now a highly valued member of his alma mater LSU's coaching staff
http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2016/01/lsu_secondary_coach_corey_raym.html

Ricky Shaw OLB D4-Oklahoma State 1988 NYG 1988-1989 7-28-1966
Originally given an opportunity behind LT at the ROLB position, he ran afoul of Bill Parcells who pulled him from a blowout game due to missed assignments and put LT back in, shortly thereafter was waived and former Eagle Dwayne Jiles took his place on the roster. Shaw then continued his NFL career with the Eagles.
The WSJ article on 3 rookies was good
SGMen : 7/28/2016 11:00 am : link
RB Perkins will likely be brought along slowly as he learns pass protection schemes and so forth. He has HR ability as a runner and receiver and we need that since none of our backs are true speedsters. Speed kills. If he is starting or getting a lot of carries at least by the last quarter of the season as I suspect he will well we could "Bradshaw 2007 - repeat of SB run" on our hands. Woo Hoo!

FS D. Thompson is a leader and that is a good thing. If he is NFL ready out of the gates great. The pass rush, the front 7, will help him too and if he is the ballhawk type all the better because turnovers are the big difference maker between winners and losers.

CB Apple will learn this year but play a lot I think.
LB Goodson will play specials and hopefully have an expanded role by season's end.

WR Shepard MUST have a surprisingly good season for us to get to the next level. If by season's end he is ON FIRE and hard to COVER we are going to be tough to beat down the stretch.

I love the 2016 draft class and believe the 2014-2015 classes will rise this year as well. We are going to surprise people this year.
