I think we could have beaten the Cowboys and Falcons in week 1 and 2. Maybe a good pass rusher would have helped get the Saints off the field at least 1 extra time.
We lost 6 games in the last two minutes. A "healthy" JPP may have been a difference maker in half those games. Just one play per game on defense could have made a difference.
I said at the end of last year that 3 things killed us:
1. Injuries in-season
2. Injuries off-season (JPP and Beatty)
3. TC's clock management and new defensive scheme taking time to learn it.
If just JPP and LT Beatty, hurt off-season, had been healthy and playing to their abilities had played 16 strong games and TC had managed the clock better, we may have been 10-6 in our weak division (winning 4 of 6 in last two minutes where we lost).
Alas, injuries are part of the game and we just had a bad run of them last year (secondary, DL, LB).
Was just dining and dunking us at the end of that game, and I just think that a little bit of pressure would have won the game for us. Hell the defense actually scored the majority of the points for us that night.
the Giants gave up losses late to the Patriots, Jets, and Panthers, I find it tough to argue that his presence alone would have saved the day against the Cowboys, Falcons, or Saints.
We lost 8 games that we could have won with any resemblance of a guy on D who could make a play. I put healthy JPP at easily 4 more wins.
I have the Giants 9-7 with JPP. 10-6 if we had JPP, Beatty and a clock-minded HC Coughlin. The offense and specials were solid and we were +7 with turnovers. A little bit of talent and better coaching and we are 10-6, division champs, easy.
Remember, LT E. Flowers was slated to spend his rookie year as a RT until Beatty tore his pec working out. A healthy, usually solid Beatty on the left and a rookie RT in Flowers playing an "easier" position could have propelled us to say 4th in scoring and 6th in yards? A superb offense?? (along with JPP on defense).
We would have beat Dallas in Week 1 that is for damn sure. Maybe Atlanta Week 2 but that's about it.
Might have helped versus New Orleans, New England, and Carolina. Those were all close games. Who knows. Doesn't matter.
On with 2016.
Hypotheticals are for fun, yes, but I'm moving towards focusing on Camp 2016 and game 1. If we get through camp and game 1 healthy (game 1's tend to have the most injuries, IMHO, or so it seems as it is the first time teams are full speed and really whacking each other).
I like the look of 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 and then Monday night on a tough road game in MN. Stop Peterson and pressure QB. If we are healthy we'll still move the ball on that solid defense. If we somehow got to 4-0, with our defense just beginning to gel, we'd be looking really good for a return to Division Champions.
maybe not to the extent that extreme extent but JPP alone would have only helped so much. It would have given the Giants defense more outs but you can't assume that the Giants win 1-2-3 more games thanks to one guy.
Healthy JPP would have really helped us but he's not Lawrence Taylor.

agree completely
He will be a demon out there this year, however. If anyone wants to bet with me on the over ten sacks, just let me know.

the flip side, though, is a healthy, motivated JPP means Coughlin may very well still be the HC.
I'm not glad a guy lost a large part of his hand, but I am glad it led to some regime change.

You'd be one step closer to heart disease or Cancer..😜
