If he didn't say it wasn't serious, the mass hysteria about them keeping things under wraps would ensue and fans would start claiming it had to be serious.
RE: since they are expected back, what is the practical effect of this Â

It seems to me that Michael Strahan didn't like to do a whole lot of work before the season started his last couple/few years ... which would mean even MORE work for those jags/journeymen. (Time to bring back marvelous Marvin?)
The minor hurts we don't need to know. What happens are the multitude of obsessing threads about a player which usually amounts to nothing serious. So why tell us UNLESS it needs to be reported. This is opening day so most here won't start obsessing until camp is well underway..We never knew about our favorite players' minor owies until gamedayunder Parcells..
"In his junior year [of high school], Harrison came down awkwardly with a rebound and his knee swelled. He'll never forget the date -- Nov. 29 -- because it was his birthday. It was a torn meniscus, which required surgery -- the first of four operations, two on each knee."
Gather all four of Harrison's knee operations were in high school/college. Don't see any record of problems with the Jets. Have to hope Giants haven't signed on just in time for chronic condition to announce itself. Four for two - ( New Window )

Hasn't that been a trademark for us over the last 3 years?
Not that I'm panicking, but refresh my memory again Â
but if they can't work today, even if they only need one day off, it makes sense to PUP them. From Wikipedia
Quote:
A player who, as a result of football-related injuries, is unable to take part in training camp practices may be assigned to the preseason PUP list. Players can be moved off the PUP list to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player cannot be placed on the PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice, even if only for a few minutes.
So, if you have guys who are dinged as training camp starts, it costs you nothing to put their names on PUP, and it could cost you a lot if those dings linger.
Even if just for a practice or two. It's the fact here's someone we've spent a lot of money on and are expecting BIG things from him and he's already nursing an injury.
No, he can't. Here is the definition of the two types of PUP designations:
Preseason PUP - means a player can do everything but practice or play in games with the team while they're in training camp. They still have access to trainers and medical facilities, can participate in meetings and, presumably, eat at the cafeteria. All players who took the field in the first training camp practice cannot be placed on the preseason PUP.
Regular Season PUP - A player placed on the regular season PUP cannot practice or play in games until after the sixth game of the season.
of this. Harrison, Bromley, and Lewis are not seriously injured and should be on the field soon. This is a great opportunity for Montori Hughes, Louis Nix, and Milhouse to get the coaches attention with the additional reps they all will be receiving. I expect Hughes and Nix to get some snaps with the starters and if these two actually work hard they have a chance to not only win a roster spot but some serious playing time in the DT rotation.

I also believe DT/FB Nikita Whitlock will get more looks now, early in camp, then if the bunch were all healthy. This means we'll know likely early on whether this kid is ready for NFL specialist pass rush duties or not. If he gets blocked all the time by the OL, well, he may not have a shot. I'm praying for the kid and for our defense that we have a "6th guy" that can rush from anywhere.

Butttttttt....we already know what he can do in the NFL...he CAN't rush from ANYWHERE. He creates matchup problems with bigger slower guards who cant move as well laterally.
I know I mentioned him once a week or so ago, but you keep bringing him up like we might have the next John Randle on our D line. He is a specials and specialty situation player. Thats it. Maybe we can have himas a hole puncher with Will Johnson or have him back there in a 3 RB set McCarthy used to like to use. But this idea that he is an unknown commodity is just not true.

Smart move by the Giants.

Baghdad Bob!!
Nice qualifier. Arguably, anything not life-threatening isn't "extremely" serious.

Silver lining is we get to see more of the young guys early.
Football always has dings, bruises, cuts, knicks.
Granted, seeing Snacks name, PUP and knee all in one sentence made me shudder. Ouch!
The main effect is to maintain their eligibility for regular season PUP.
This was beyond ridiculous a year ago.
I don't even know what you call this...."other worldly"??......3 guys to PUP the 1st day.....Really?
Clean the sand out of your panties, I expect Thomas not to have a clue, but geez...

yeah yeah, I know,....can you blame me for being a little over reactive though?
Gonna be positive this year, though. They'll be fine...
Strange would be trying to do that any time after the first day.

On the other hand, if they start to miss weeks...

Thanks for this. I feel much better now. :)
Where are you getting that he's going to miss a game?
Roll back the anxiety. It's not even august yet.

This is generally wise advice for dealing with life's difficulties, but it would also lead to not caring at all about spectator sports.
