How would they hide someone being PUPed?

The designation has to be filed. It will get out, barring reporters failing at their job of reporting, whether the team announces it or not.

Does this mean Cruz may still start on PUP or just that the outcome of the conditioning tests will determine whether he is limited to one-a-days (do they still have two-a-days?) and/or a "snap-count" for team drills?
True re PUP.
Big Blue '56 : 7/28/2016 1:29 pm : link
Where I object is telling us about every fucking tweak and twist that is no more than part of the job. I agree, if you PUP or IR them, it has to be disclosed..
since they are expected back, what is the practical effect of this

If he didn't say it wasn't serious, the mass hysteria about them keeping things under wraps would ensue and fans would start claiming it had to be serious.

pjcs18 said: "[ More work] for Hughes, Nix, Lewis and Milhouse with top two of the top three DT on the depth chart on PUP." It seems to me that Michael Strahan didn't like to do a whole lot of work before the season started his last couple/few years ... which would mean even MORE work for those jags/journeymen. (Time to bring back marvelous Marvin?)

Knee swelling is not serious?
widmerseyebrow : 7/28/2016 1:50 pm : link
I'm no doctor, but only in the NFL is knee swelling not considered fairly serious.
No news is good news.

think about it
NYGTBlair : 7/28/2016 1:53 pm : link
its over 100 degrees on that field and you are gonna make your huge, run stuffing DT complete a conditioning test.
Smart move by the Giants.

The minor hurts we don't need to know. What happens are the multitude of obsessing threads about a player which usually amounts to nothing serious. So why tell us UNLESS it needs to be reported. This is opening day so most here won't start obsessing until camp is well underway..We never knew about our favorite players' minor owies until gamedayunder Parcells..
Harrison's knee history
shyster : 7/28/2016 2:01 pm : link
"In his junior year [of high school], Harrison came down awkwardly with a rebound and his knee swelled. He'll never forget the date -- Nov. 29 -- because it was his birthday. It was a torn meniscus, which required surgery -- the first of four operations, two on each knee."

Gather all four of Harrison's knee operations were in high school/college. Don't see any record of problems with the Jets. Have to hope Giants haven't signed on just in time for chronic condition to announce itself.

Signs with Giants, opens the season on the PUP list. Yeah, sounds about right.
Exact quote from McAdoo
shyster : 7/28/2016 2:37 pm : link
We dont think any of (the injuries) are extremely serious at this point.

Nice qualifier. Arguably, anything not life-threatening isn't "extremely" serious.

I'll worry about the PUP'd if they aren't on the field by the end of
SGMen : 7/28/2016 2:39 pm : link
next week. I think all but JT Thomas mysterious lower leg are minor issues that just need a little time to heal.

Silver lining is we get to see more of the young guys early.

Football always has dings, bruises, cuts, knicks.

Granted, seeing Snacks name, PUP and knee all in one sentence made me shudder. Ouch!

The main effect is to maintain their eligibility for regular season PUP.
Harrison cut his wedding short to put in extra work
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/28/2016 3:16 pm : link
my guess is he might have overworked himself preparing for camp.
soooo, what's next?

to the Dr. for an MRI?

This was beyond ridiculous a year ago.

I don't even know what you call this...."other worldly"??......3 guys to PUP the 1st day.....Really?

I'm just curious how Harrison got knee swelling

a couple of scrubs get a few more days work, preseason PUP means right around zero.

Clean the sand out of your panties, I expect Thomas not to have a clue, but geez...

yeah yeah, I know,....can you blame me for being a little over reactive though?
This is said every season
Dave in Hoboken : 7/28/2016 3:50 pm : link
and then it eventually morphs into one of the most injured teams in the league...every year.

Gonna be positive this year, though. They'll be fine...
Going from a 3-4
Jay in Toronto : 7/28/2016 3:56 pm : link
to a 4-3, Snacks will need some reps, I imagine. I think the parallel with Strahan doesn't work for that reason.
But we have a new strength and conditioning coach
Gmen1982 : 7/28/2016 3:58 pm : link

There is nothing strange about adding 3 to the PUP on the first day.
Shepherdsam : 7/28/2016 4:01 pm : link

Strange would be trying to do that any time after the first day.

I get that this is an unpleasant surprise,
81_Great_Dane : 7/28/2016 4:59 pm : link
but if they can't work today, even if they only need one day off, it makes sense to PUP them. From Wikipedia
Quote:
A player who, as a result of football-related injuries, is unable to take part in training camp practices may be assigned to the preseason PUP list. Players can be moved off the PUP list to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player cannot be placed on the PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice, even if only for a few minutes.
So, if you have guys who are dinged as training camp starts, it costs you nothing to put their names on PUP, and it could cost you a lot if those dings linger.

On the other hand, if they start to miss weeks...
Sorry, meant to write
