NFT: Man Utd agree record breaking transfer fee for Paul Pogba

nyjuggernaut2 : 7/28/2016 2:29 pm
all that is left now is for Pogba to sign a contract. Jose Mourinho is going all in under his first year at Old Trafford. They'll be the favorites heading into the season with the additions of Pogba, Zlatan & Mkhitaryan. Hopefully they wilt under the pressure, can't stand Mourinho.
Sorry, forgot the link

can't wait.
Transfer season has been ridiculous

The money in England is getting insane. Way too much for a player with a ton to prove.
I guess the 120M Euro fee for Pogba
JPinstripes : 7/28/2016 4:25 pm : link
subsidized Juve's 90M Euro purchase of Higuain, who is an absolute beast of a player - top 3 striker in the world right now.

Terps could score 20 in Serie A these days.
That's insane
Joey in VA : 7/28/2016 5:07 pm : link
That fee represents the future I assume, he's nowhere near worth that now. He wasn't even the best midfielder on his own team in the Euros.
This is a massive overpay
English Alaister : 7/28/2016 5:45 pm : link
for a player they let leave for free a couple of years ago.

Pogba is a heck of a talent and when he's on he is tremendously graceful and I could see £50m but 100+? That is crazy. That's Neymar, Ronaldo territory. I'd rather have Higuain to be honest.

I don't know. I just started indoor for the first time in three years. The lungs and legs are getting old.

It's getting to a point with the top clubs that it's just a revolving door. Ander Herrera was on the cusp of greatness when he went to Old Trafford, and he just got steamrolled by these ridiculous signings.

I hope all of these big clubs somehow implode under the weight of these expenses. Need an economist to paint the picture of how that could happen.

In Spain what Barcelona and Real Madrid are doing is just gross. Young players get no opportunity to develop at all, and the quality of play suffers over the long run.
Kante might have been better for what Mourinho likes to do
moespree : 7/28/2016 6:14 pm : link
Personally, I like what Chelsea and Liverpool did much more than what Man United has done this summer.
Kryckowiak was the guy to get
Go Terps : 7/28/2016 6:50 pm : link
He's better than both Kante and Pogba, but he ended up at PSG. I couldn't understand why Real Madrid didn't go after him.

There's a really good defensive midfielder playing for Malaga, Ignacio Camacho, that could be had for a fraction and probably fit better with Mourinho. But a lot of this is about selling shirts. I'm actually glad I don't support one of these super teams. Doesn't seem sustainable.
These figures are only going to rise - the money coming into the EPL
Nitro : 7/28/2016 6:59 pm : link
from the TV deals is insane.

120M for Manu is about 1/3 of that for anyone else.

Going to the LCFC v PSG game on Saturday in LA - looking forward to seeing some hopefully decent quality play.

I don't think Leicester is going to roll over and die this season the way the conventional wisdom says they will. I'm not saying repeat, but I see people saying they'll drop to 10th. They lost Kante, but keeping Marhez (so far) and Vardy plus Musa and Mendy I think they're a net better squad.
As a longtime United fan, I am not exactly thrilled on multiple levels

Emblematic of the shitshow Woodward has been since he's ascended to the top spot under the Glazers and SAF left. I'm not even going to consider the way that he left the club the first time.

This also to me puts a target directly on Mourinho right away. How he will deploy Pogba is going to be the interesting piece, as Pogba has always been protected by players like Vidal and Marchisio in the 4-3-3. The only player they have right now that can passably do that is Schneiderlein?

I just hope this isn't Juan Sebastian Veron all over again.
Mourinho will at least have them organized

I'll be interested to see what he does with Mata given that he already sold him once.

Madrid seems to finally understand how to build a team. Zidane wants youth guys playing for him. Haven't had any huge signings & I'm very excited about it. He played only youth players in the 2nd half against PSG & they looked awesome IMO. Marco Asensio is going to be a stud. I'm very happy to finally see some continuity with Real Madrid. They have a good amount of players in the 1st team who came up through the youth academy. Morata, Casilla, Casemiro, Vazquez, Jese, Asensio & Nacho. Not a ton, but it's getting better. I'm very excited to see them this year.

My instinct was that he was as good as gone back to Spain when Mikthariyan (sp) was signed (had actually heard Valencia), but they are not deep in the creative side, so who knows.
Speaking of United

Today is the 20th anniversary of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singing with the club from Molde for 1.5m (one of the great bargains of all time). Great natural scorer, just fun to watch.

And who doesn't love Ole? 20 goals for 20 years.

I'll duck now......
Interesting article on Stan Kroenke in the Daily Mail
JohnF : 7/29/2016 9:34 am : link
How Stan Kroenke, Arsenal's billionaire owner, is spending big and becoming sport's most powerful man

Not just about the EPL, it covers quite a bit about the Rams and the new stadium they are building in LA.

I loved this little bit.
Quote:
It did not pass unnoticed, however, when, in February, as soon as the NFL confirmed the move, he (Kroenke) bought a 520,000-acre ranch in Texas (an area bigger than LA) which had been on the market at $725m.

Del Bosque said this week that Asensio is the best young talent that Spain has.

I agree that Zidane looks like the real deal, but as long as Florentino is there...
Zidane
Big Rick in FL : 7/29/2016 4:43 pm : link
Seems to have a lot of control over the squad. As we see with no big signings this year. Haven't even heard of much interest in big names. I'm very excited for Asensio. When we were rumored to sign Andre Gomes I told someone on Twitter we don't need him, because Asensio is better. I was told I'm crazy. Then Asensio comes out & has a hell of a game against PSG. Then Del Bosque gave him a ton of praise.
I don't see it with Andre Gomes
Go Terps : 7/29/2016 4:46 pm : link
Just not that influential.

Is Real going to roll with Casemiro in the holding midfield position again? I expected them to upgrade there.
I don't like Gomes at all
Big Rick in FL : 7/29/2016 4:59 pm : link
I'm so happy we didn't sign him.

Zidane supposedly loves Casemiro. We haven't even really looked at anybody to replace him. Matic's name has just came out. So we will see. I actually really like Casemiro. He has constantly got better. He absolutely destroyed Barca in the 2nd Clasico. He was unreal & he only just turned 24.

You watching this Madrid & Chelsea game on ESPN? Asensio has been awesome so far. 2 assists & almost had a 3rd on a free kick. I can't see how Zidane doesn't keep him with the 1st team.
