okay this may be one of the best posts I seen in a long time. I actually did a spit take.
This "instant" update thing is tiring. Apple on the 2nd team for a drill, "oh no"; Flowers gets a bump in a drill "the sky is falling".
Exactly. If you hear "broken leg, elbow dislocated, ACL, Meniscus torn, high ankle sprain" where a guy leaves the practice field worry but otherwise this is camp and dings happen to ALL teams.
If Flowers sits out one day to allow a ding to heal, get treatment, who cares? This is the NFL and stuff happens. He continued to practice diidn't he?
McAdoo says they kicked the tires on some DL today. Noncommittal on possibility of signings. #Giants
Now this is interesting news indeed.
I've been saying all along that clearly Reese will be looking at other teams and the possibility of making trades or even signing an available "body" should a need arise. This team has some holes, we all know that, and you do what you must. I mean, wouldn't you overpay for someone you NEED right now since you have cap space and know the team has real bonafide playoff potential? We overpaid for our big 3 UFA signings we had because we had to do that.
Trade starting TE Larry Donnell on August 13th (after first pre-season game) along with a conditional 5th, 6th or 7th for a player (RT, WLB, DL) of need who is now expendable due to youth and higher contract, a veteran that could be here for 2/3 of camp and "get it" before the season starts.
Not likely to happen, but I would not be shocked to read that Reese traded with someone NOW even for a conditional 2017 pick. I would not be surprised at all, some "last year of his contract" veteran, high priced, who has youth behind him and can be moved if a team overpays. If it is a RT that keeps Eli upright and allows us to run to the right effectively you do it. That is how I come out.
DL, RT or WLB. Improve with a starter or solid depth.
Agreed, you can't read into every little moment and every little move. A UDFA may be, for example, going against 1st teamers just to see how he handles it, how he looks, etc. You know what you have with a veteran, especially if he was here last year and the year before even. Sheesh.

RE: Top 10 pick can't even get on the field over Wade
Might as well just start shopping Eli Apple around to other teams to gauge interest.
Friggin' Reese needed to trade down just like the Cowboys draft board showed...
You take the guy who is #1 on your draft board - Period. Apple moved up the charts because of his upside, his potential. He has work to do on his technique but he has the speed, hips and body control to potentially be a great CB. A probowl caliber CB.
I liked OT Tunsil round 1 but also wondered how he fell from being a clearcut top 3 pick to 13? Something was up with him? If OT Stanley had been there at 10 he'd have likely been taken over Apple.
In today's NFL, you need 3 corners and DRC will be 31 next year. You have to believe they keep all 3 (DRC, Jenkins, Apple) will all play a lot and Wade too. Wade is the nickel cornerback and Jenkins, Apple, M. Thompson and B. Jackson will all play slot in camp to see who can handle it best.
I wouldn't read into Apple being 2nd or 3rd team for any practice. He'll be playing a LOT.
Not only are you my favorite delusional poster (and I say that in a good way), but I don't think you realize that Jimmy Googs was being facetious (at least I hope he was).
RE: Top 10 pick can't even get on the field over Wade
But I am getting so sick of how Apple is being thrown under the bus for not being a worthy pick. Its such a joke for a kid who has barely had NFL pads on that I wanted to see who would take the bait on a sleepy Fri afternoon.
Of course SGMen steps in with his typical "make lemonade out of lemons" post. Don't get me wrong SGMen, I applaud your high level optimism on many topics...keep em' coming!
Not only are you my favorite delusional poster (and I say that in a good way), but I don't think you realize that Jimmy Googs was being facetious (at least I hope he was).
Thanks man, I appreciate the sentiment. I wasn't sure if he was being sarcastic.
I'm a lot more rational than you think. For example, don't believe in "long shots" like FB Whitlock making the team much less becoming a situational pass rusher - barring injury to Johnson anyway; I don't believe we'll find a high caliber RT via trade of TE Donnell and a pick; I don't believe we'll even make a trade during camp unless someone is clearly being shopped and the price is right.
I'm actually far more conservative BUT if there was ever a year we'd maybe make moves it is this year. Reese has to know Eli is 35 and think "I have 3 years to get us another trophy.... - tops" and so forth. The NFL isn't like baseball or even hockey where you can plug a guy and he just goes. There are calls, plays, techniques which differ from team to team.
But I can daydream, right? Create scenarios of wishful thinking to generate discussion?? Delusional as they seem on their surface? :)
First, I think it is great news that a rookie FS D. Thompson is clearly taking first team snaps even in camp. I'm believing more and more now that a rookie could start based on TALENT and not POTENTIAL or limited OPTIONS. Thompson has been "in charge" since the off-season program / OTA's and that trend continues. Kudos to the kid and I pray he becomes the centerfielder we've been missing for seemingly years now.
Second, it looks like the Giants are going with the trio of veteran returnees at LB:
WLB Casillas, MLB Brinkley and SLB Kennard. I'm guessing MLB Robinson comes in on passing downs? I had as my starting 3 LB's WLB Robinson with Robinson sliding to MLB on passing downs and Casillas stepping in at WLB. We will know a lot more in the weeks ahead. The Giants may start the season at least with a veteran Spags lineup for continuities sake.
Third, I actually like that McAdoo is "easing guys" into the mode he wants...and when the pads come on this Tuesday I expect much more action. When we hear how Cruz "flew by" a defender for a TD this board will go nuts. LOL.

First, I think it is great news that a rookie FS D. Thompson is clearly taking first team snaps even in camp.
Whooo!!! OVERREACTION alert!! Don't read anything into that. It could be just because the real starter he already knows what he has, so wants to see what he has in the rookie.
Might as well just start shopping Eli Apple around to other teams to gauge interest.

They both agree the Giants are going to basically suck (my words but you get the idea....) and so forth. I can't wait until we start 3-0 (my personal prediction) and surprise all the pundits.
Giants 38 - 27 over Dallas: Dallas can't pressure Eli who has a field day. Dallas will struggle to run against our defensive line and that forces them to throw more than their "style of play" would like them to. They move the ball but we outscore them.
Giants 34 - 31 over New Orleans: Brees gets his yards, we get the win in our house. Defense bends but doesn't break enough. We score a late FG for the win.
Giants 27 - 24 over Redskins: The Skins didn't improve as much this off-season as the Giants did and we hold them on the ground just enough to eek out a home win. Defense looks better, more together, and will begin to gel now.
A healthy 3-0 will lead us to the NFC East Championship.

Saw something similar on NFL network. Basically has the Giants as a 7 win team and only gave them a chance against bad teams. The one guy said Eli was not the reason Giants have lost, but the other guy disagreed saying that poor performance on 3rd downs and in red zones was part of the problem. Finally said Giants are going to miss TC, and we can bank on it. Funny, I doubt this clown was giving the teams any wins a year ago because TC was their coach, and his take on Eli was laughable.

Many people just don't like NY, period. The Giants haven't been very good either these last few years. Our defense was horrific last year and our redzone offense was pathetic.
I sort of like being the underdog though. Our ground game should be stronger this year right out of the gates, a carry over from our late 2015 strong running by Jennings.
All we have to do is get healthy, stay healthy and win early to get on a good run. Our defense may struggle early due to all the new faces (Vernon, Snacks, Jenkins, D. Thompson) starting and so forth but maybe not as much as we think since the rest of the guys are in year #2 of the system and the new guys are all veterans, except for D. Thompson. We shall see. I look forward to Tuesday's camp reports since that will be the first day in pads.
I saw the NFLN game by prediction with Heath Evans and
some idiot whose name I cannot recall. They picked us to go like 7-9.
Example of the the moronic reasoning they used: had us losing to Philly in the last week of season because they had us winning the first game and said it was too hard to beat a team twice.
Yet just above that, they picked Dallas to sweep us.

Example of the the moronic reasoning they used: had us losing to Philly in the last week of season because they had us winning the first game and said it was too hard to beat a team twice.
Yet just above that, they picked Dallas to sweep us.
But actually it was the other guy yesterday who was the more anti-Giant "expert"...
Evans is the absolute worst, though. When he doesn't have his tongue up Tom Brady's ass, he's using it to lick Drew Brees' nuts.

Pretty sure it was Harrison. And the whole "tongue/ass/lick/nuts" thing made my first cup of coffee this morning a delight... :-)
