Tom Rock & #8207;@TomRock_Newsday Paul Perkins told me he figured picking up defenses and blitzes would be the toughest part of being a rookie RB in the NFL. But ... "it’s come quick," he said. "I’m adjusting better than I thought I would." RB coach Craig Johnson agreed, said Perkins is picking things up faster than most rookies do. "He’s very sharp. He gets it." |
He's gonna make the roster.
I still believe we start the season with RB R. Jennings carrying the rock the majority of the time. I'm not really sure if it will be RB Williams, Dwarka or Rainey as the #2 to start the season. Honestly, they all have their pro's and con's.
But I think that by mid-season we will see RB Perkins working in more for Jennings (age 31) and by season's end who is to say the rookie isn't the #1 RB with speed and catching ability. Our rookie class needs to make an impact THIS YEAR if we are to make a SB run.
If all five of our round 1-5 picks are producing by season's end we are in great shape for a late run. TE Adams has a lot of talent in front of him so I'm not so sure he gets much of a chance.

I never assume anything when it comes to the health of this team.
I'll go on a limb and say that a RB coach knows a bit more about evaluating RB's, than a RB knows about evaluating WR's
And if they screw up, will they be condemned to the doghouse, like TC did?
RB Perkins along with many of the other rookie RB's likely won't be starting game 1 whereas Elliott will be for sure.
But I do have a good feeling about all six of our draft picks being #1's or #2's in 2017 in terms of roster depth. That would be amazing. And they are #1's because they are GOOD not because there is a lack of talent.
If Perkins finishes the last 9 games of the year as a guy who works his way into the #1 spot for say last 3 or 4 games we'll be in good shape to make a late season push. What Perkins gives the offense is a #1 back that can run, catch and likely pass protect. His speed changes the offense for the better too.
Give me a true playmaker at any position. Go Giants!
You're making that a statement of fact. Simply can't do that to a kid who still hasn't carried the ball in the NFL against guys who are tackling for real.
Even "his speed FIGURES to change"....makes a lot more sense.

This^^^^.
And if I might add as a proud alumnus of the U.C. system - Berkeley as an undergrad and Davis as a grad student in their Viticulture and Enology department - graduating UCLA is a whole 'nother sack of apples from graduating "The U" in Miami, re Perkins vs Moss... Not to mention Perkins' resume as a ballplayer at UCLA vs Moss's was night and day vis à vis productivity.
Moss was the classic Accorsi/Reese pick re extreme athleticism in a guy who really wasn't a football player 1st and foremost. Perkins was a FOITBALL PLAYER who did fine at the combine but was by no means a freak workout specimen in shorts.
Now let's hope that Darius Powe brings the same UC grad learnig capacity to the WR position. He hasn't got a ton of positive press yet and must be deep on the WR depth chart but he was productive as a senior catching balls from Goff, especially re TD production, and might make the team via STs play as a 6th or 7th WR.
I doubt it. Williams' "competition" is himself.
And it doesn't take a lot of imagination to envision Williams and Perkins, looking at their ages, physical tools, and complementary skill sets as a great 1-2 RB combo for the near future. Jacobs and Bradshaw redux, in an ideal scenario.
Well, Coach Johnson said Perkins gets it....left unsaid,
Williams doesn't! I don't need 4 years to see that.
Yo dufus. BBI as a consensus can't stand Williams.
And I was among the very few voices, hell maybe the only one, who thought Williams was better in 2015 than he was in 2014 despite his awful stats.
So the only morphing going on is the morphine in your brain that prevents you from observing accurately and thinking clearly.
You really should at least attempt to have an idea based on something besides your inner fantasy before you post dopey comments.
This is coming from one of your defenders on this forum...

Re-read what I said.....I know BBI for the most part can't stand him......I was commenting on a trend of a lot BBI'ers who somehow have changed their minds without him running a single down.....lifetime 3.2 average...
Andre Williams darted around Kerry Wynn, who misjudged the angle. Wynn otherwise had a good day in run defense.
However, Williams, who continues to look like a brand new runner, really is having himself a nice camp, which has to be a relief to the Giants who, while planning to ditch last year’s disastrous four-man committee, still needs to know that they have a rotation that can be counted upon behind projected starter Rashad Jennings.
If Perkins is the real deal, he needs to get the bulk of the snaps.

So, yeah.
If Perkins is the real deal, he needs to get the bulk of the snaps.
Why not just come out and say it?
"Not like that idiot Coughlin who didn't want to play the guys that would give the Giants the best chance to WIN!"
You do realize how idiotic that sounds?
The PS is a great place to stow borderline players should you need to mix n match during the season though it is tricky due to another team having an opportunity to take your guy. I think we'll be cutting a few veterans this year who can and likely will play for other teams this year.
