never heard of him when he 1st signed. I read his scouting report and seemed no better than Chris Bomber who we let walk. He turned out to be a damn good center for us and part of the 2nd best Giant OL I've seen in my 27 years of fandom
Jeff Hostetler was a terrific athlete, with a superb build for the QB position. That was the only redeeming aspect of Ray Handley's wacko decision to hand Hoss the starting job over Simms in 1991.
RE: A ton of 70s-era Giants didn't look like football players. Â
It's the "best" part where they tended to fall short.
When I contemplate many 70s era Giants, I think of the inscription on the Statue of Libety:
Quote:
Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
Lol. Winner.
I'd add maybe Steve DeOssie.
Who's a thunk that?
Many of them should not have been :-)
Dave Jennings was a very good all-around athlete. Tall, fast, excellent hands and a very good basketball player.
Meggett
That was my first thought too. I love Eli, but no one is choosing him as the model athlete, and he is one of the best Giants in team history.
And what about Tarkenton?
McConkey was the first guy who popped into my head too - this guy at WR? Hehe...loved him

He wasn't the part.
Actually, this pic shows him doing what he did best.
Are you kidding?
I got a good one, Ed McCaffrey. Guy was slow and not incredibly coordinated but man coukd he catch.
Also Chase Blackburn

too much mustache in this thread.
Was a dumpy looking guy, had a gut in his later years. Practiced poorly. But man was he good on gameday on some bad teams.

cornerback
he may have looked like a male model and stood out as a white cornerback but he was jacked
Yeah, I was going for the white cornerback stuff - not exactly the "look" of the part.

McCaffrey was 6' 5" 215 pounds and ran a 4.47 40.
That's slow?
Blackburn I agree. McCaffrey not so much.
