New year same results. I've said time and time again that Reese should've been fired. This is five years and counting now where we do not have an NFL quality O-line or TE on the roster.
No arguments there, but Reese has the worst defence in the NFL last season so spends a fortune to upgrade that, and I think the starters looked good tonight for defence.
The offence was the 6th best passing o last season, we adjusted to the lack of running game with a lot of short underneath passes and were not doing that today which we will no doubt do during the season to help out the oline,
but larry donnell has had an absolute shocker today
To add any linebackers, and what he has done to the offensive line is criminal. They better pray that they can pick up someone or this season will be another wash, and there is nobody to blame now, plus what about the coaching, I am sorry but this is horrible, it is unwatchable football.
It's preseason. Let's see where things stand around week 8 of the regular season.
Nothing personal to any individual per se, but stupidity, never relaxes..Just take a quick peek at today's threads during PRE-SEASON..Not sure why I bother at this time of year. It's like banging your head against the wall...😎
I remember when we won the SBs, our first team looked pretty good in the preseason. They looked crisper than tonight. This looks like an unmitigated disaster.
it's only preseason. But it's fucking putrid football any way you look at it. No preparation, no execution. Pathetic.
And this is a discussion board.
Understood, but no, not here. It's a panic board in the flucking pre-season, no less..Eli's thrown 9 passes..9..It's about seeing what you can and cutting the roster down from 500 players. Consistency comes later..There's nothing definitive to be learned at this point imo, especially given the limited snaps the projected regulars get..

Not really. They looked pretty bad. I remember we were going nuts on here on why come the Giants always look like crap in the preseason.
bearing in mind it's still pre-season, there are a few really legit concerns that will carry over to the season if not fixed now.
One is Newhouse. No need to say any more about him.
Donnell not being able to block...at all! WTH? I'm 56 years old, 6'0" 230 and I bet I can block better than most of our tight ends. I can't understand this. Wide receivers have blocked much better than these pukes. I'm not asking for Howard Cross, but wiffs are unacceptable and should be a cutable offense.
We are freaking as healthy as maybe we've been in the last decade right now. We need to stay healthy, keep practicing, and we'll be fine as we face two weak defenses to start the NFL season in Dallas and New Orleans.
Our starting defense looks pretty good. Eli Apple, D. Thompson, BJ Goodson, our UFA's Vernon, Snacks, Jenkins all looking good. The future is bright when you look at the big picture.
I think I have to make another Midol run for some of you guys
Rex had his guys in regular season mode. He doesn't like us. They will be a lot more serious about the Jets game now that they have been embarrassed. Walking around in camp patting each other on the back Playoffs,
Papers will give McAdoo a taste of NYC flavor tomorrow. Lets See how he grows with it. My guess is he will.
It's inexcusible that the FO put together these offensive lines...
.absolutly inexcusible.
Cowboys and Redskins will vie for the conference championship...Giants will not be able to run or control the game by running.
Many holes to fill in one year. As bad as we say this OL is, we still managed to put a lot of points on the board last year. My biggest frustration is that we still probably could have picked up a decent LT if we hadn't insisted on keeping Flowers there
But that doesn't mean it's gonna suck and sabatoge the season. Today was rough but it's one bad game that doesn't count and Pugh was out. Save the angst and worry for the real games.
It's inexcusible that the FO put together these offensive lines...

Cowboys and Redskins will vie for the conference championship...Giants will not be able to run or control the game by running.
Five of the top ten rushing teams in the NFL didn't make the playoffs last year -- six of the top ten teams in the NFL in [offensive] ToP didn't make the playoffs, for that matter.
I'm not happy with the OL, but you don't need to run the ball to be successful in the current NFL.
If everyone remembers correctly last year we were saying the same thing about Eli and the offense. And they finished eigth overall in the NFL in total offense. Eli threw 35 touchdowns and only 14 interceptions. So let's cool our jets please and wait for the regular season to see what unfolds when the games really count.

He must have been smoking something? It is GM 101 - he who controls the trenches wins.
Romo has the Himalayas protecting him ... Eli has the Sierra Foothills.
But, I am not going to say anything .... I am going to mind my own business and keep my mouth shut.

No 56, its panic based on three straight shitty seasons.
No 56, its panic based on three straight shitty seasons.
What does that have to do with 2016? There were numerous significant changes in the offseason. What happened in previous seasons is almost entirely irrelevant.
I'm not happy with the OL, but you don't need to run the ball to be successful in the current NFL.
Couldn't disagree more. If you have no running game - forget top 10 - then you can't pass the ball.
I didn't look up the stat - but instead of telling us how many of the top 10 made the playoffs, how about telling us how many of the bottom 10 rushing teams made the playoffs?
W's and L's I agree...play and fundmentals and getting the "basics" done is another story. Can't be blind to that kind of play by OL and TE's yesterday. A few bips mistakes ..yea...but basic fundamentals of basic blocking digressing even after a somewhat poor first presason game..is a red flag imho. but continue ....

You do need to run the ball to be successful. It's how you hold leads and close out games. We had no 4 minute offense last year which was why we lost games we could and should have won. How many times did we see two runs get stuffed and then an incomplete pass or a pass short of a first down that led to a 3 and out to give the ball right back to the opposing offense in a close game?
I'm far from panicked at this point but yesterday wasn't a good sign.
So Donnell completely whiffing on 3 blocks is meaningless to you?
Scores in pre-season are totally meaningless but evaluations aren't.
Not meaningless. But I am not going to jump off the GWB and proclaim that all is lost because Donnell missed a few blocks in August. He's missed blocks before. He's not a good blocker. Is he going to miss every block this season? PRobably not. Relax. It's August not October. Have some faith.
I remember when we won the SBs, our first team looked pretty good in the preseason. They looked crisper than tonight. This looks like an unmitigated disaster.
You obviously weren't paying attention in 2011.
Looked mediocre at best during the pre-season, went 0-2 giving up about 90 points in the process, appeared they were going to lose to WAS until that goal line stand...

Wake me up in September.
I'm certainly not jumping off any bridges. But I also disagree with a statement that preseason is meaningless. I loved when practices were at Farleigh Dickenson and I went almost every day. They weren't meaningless at all. I got a great feel for the rooks and cohesiveness of certain units. Preseason games are simply an extension of the practices (back then they had real practices - full pads morning and early evening).
I couldn't give a rats ass if they even keep score in pre-season games. Or if they even played a game versus practicing red zone for 10 snaps each, etc. To me it is a glorified practice where they get the opportunity to go up against someone different than the teammates they practice against every day.
Fundamentals count. Athleticism counts. It isn't meaningless. I agree it is tough to make assessments of how the team will play in game 1 based upon preseason - but some evaluations can be made even by a novice like me (and obviously the coaching staff are making some pretty sophisticated evaluations from practices and the preseason simulated games.
But I also disagree with a statement that preseason is meaningless. I loved when practices were at Farleigh Dickenson and I went almost every day. They weren't meaningless at all.
Teams had more than double the amount of practice time to figure things out. And nobody is saying practices are meaningless. In the Era of the new bargaining agreement, preseason games are glorified scrimmages and more emphasis is put into practice since you really only have a few weeks to see what you have - often with single practices a day.
I've always looked at preseason games as glorified scrimmages.
I'm sure the coaches would prefer they were actual scrimmages (which the Giants used to do back in the 80's fairly regularly) so they could create "situational practices". Probably a far more productive use of time than a preseason game from the coaches' standpoint.

No offense but Eli had much of the same issues.
This team looked out of sorts in almost every phase this game.
