Todd Gurley last year and maybe our O-line sucks enough last season that we lose one more game to land Floyd this year at LB. Then we send the pick we drafted Perkins with to Denver for Clady, they got a later fifth from the Jets. We could have had Gurley, Floyd and Clady instead of Flowers Apple and Perkins. Of course it unfair to do it now but hopefully Flowers turns it on, the tools are there no doubt. And hopefully Eli Apple shows more promise than Flowers has early on.
I think he would play better at guard, and may be great there one day. At least he could development there until "ready" for LT. I know, we didn't draft him first round to develop/project.
Agree, but he's a better OLG than OLT, so you're improving one position at the expense of another. He has Pro Bowl potential at left guard, at left tackle he is merely efficient.
Who will not be here for his 2nd contract. He's had elite level coaching going back to college and still struggles with technique. I anticipate that continuing throughout the duration of his rookie deal, frustrating the NYG to the point they first move him to RT, then to the bench, and finally decide to part ways at the end of his contract.
There is something that some players coming out in the draft never get and it is the main reason why players with the physical talent don’t succeed at the NFL level. The NFL is a 24/7, 365 job if you want to be successful. If you’re not working with your teammates and coaches on plays, techniques, timing, etc, then you have to work on your body. You might be able to take a month off after the season, but after that, you better get back to working 24/7 or you will be left behind and your body will not do what your mind thinks it can do. I don’t believe Ereck has that work ethic with what I see in his play on the field. He hasn’t worked on his body and that alone is his biggest problem. His techniques are poor and while he has those quick feet that get him into the correct position to block, he has no technique to follow through and finish. He gets tired and when he gets tired, he gets mad and commits a bunch of penalties. His favorite pass blocking techniques when he gets tired is to take both his hands and clamp down on the outside shoulders of his opponent and hold him so that a pass rush move cannot be used against him. Ladies and gentlemen, that’s called holding at the NFL level....Maybe Ereck, with a little help from a cattle prod, will become better than I have suggested but right now, I think there are other offensive linemen who will be better and I would let some other team “coach him up” first!
Giants management never even brought in competition. They just put him on a pedestal when they drafted him. What happened to the whole competition and earning a spot mentality?
One year deal, 4 year team option. Clady was for a 5th rounder and is paid what per year? We could have got a guy this offseason and Gurley last year. Apple hopefully will show more early on than Flowers is showing. I remember watching Gurley pre-injury at Georgia and wondering how many games do we have to lose to get a guy like that.

Calling the coaching at Miami elite is well inaccurate.

Many wanted Gurley but he was coming off an ACL. You worry about his wheels holding up.
Flowers will get better. Remember he is all of what 22 years of age? But that doesn't mean he's a true LT. I still think had Beatty not been hurt last year and had played well we'd have had Flowers at RT where he belongs even this year.
Finally, I was not happy we missed out on Clady. You take a shot with a 5th round pick and hope he stays healthy cause if he does you are set. If he doesn't, well, football is a tough sport. Jets did well here, looks good for them so far.

Do you remember the play from Pugh in 2014, who actually had a down year from his rookie season? Just like people on this board are doing now, they were ready to call Pugh a bust.
The difference with Flower is 22 years he is actually 2 years younger then Pugh in 2014, when guys on this board were screaming bust. Relax we are dealing with a baby here, Flowers like Pugh should be given more time. Worst case scenario we move him to RT in a year if he still continues to struggles in a year.
I think this is probable a function of the "cream puff" camps that NFL teams are having and it may take Flowers a couple games to round into shape. In addition, the Giants need more bodies on the OL. The should place a call to Will Beaty and might consider reaching out to SF to try to get their hands on Anthony Davis via a trade.
He was far better then than Flowers has shown to be to this point. The situations are not similar. All we know about flowers so far is he's big and strong and may have an issue being coached.

You are making stuff up to fit your argument. Pugh played well as a rookie and played through injuries his second year. However, he was nowhere near as bad as Flowers was last year and Flowers has not shown anything so far that gives anybody confidence moving forward. Don't take that as anybody calling Flowers a bust. That is just people being realistic. Nobody is hoping the kids fails. We all just want the best product on the field and Flowers has not shown he can handle the LT position nor has management ever made him earn it by bringing in competition.
Ouch

If that pre-draft report is correct, what we have now with Flowers is about all we'll ever see. Sad. He needs an attitude adjustment.
This O-Line is a disgrace.

His OL coach was certainly highly regarded.
