LHP Jordan Montgomery for Scranton tonight
GiantJake : 8/21/2016 12:33 am : link
7 shutout innings, 3 hits, 8Ks, 1 walk. He's 3-1 with a 0.71 ERA since being promoted to AAA. Overall this season, he is 12-5 with a 2.19. It would be nice for the Yanks to add a young lefty to the rotation in 2017. Not sure if the Yanks promote him this season, but Green, Cessa, Severino, Mitchell and Montgomery could give them young options in the rotation next season. Also, RHP Chance Adams is 13-1 this season and should be in Scranton to start 2017. The Yanks need to produce some young guns to go along with the Baby Bombers and this rebuild will move right along.
Another series win!
Dave in Hoboken : 8/21/2016 12:40 am : link
Woohoo.

Yes. Thanks
Good win.

Shutout would have been nice. At least Betances got that HR out in a non critical situation.
Sanchez being interviewed through an interpreter - it was his strategy
Del Shofner : 8/21/2016 12:48 am : link
to have Cessa throw inside and "make them uncomfortable."

I like this guy ...

He calls a great game. Frames pitches perfectly and consistently. And throws out guys like no one's business. Add his shades-of-Cabrera bat and we're talking #1 catcher in the league in the future. Unreal talent exhibited so far. Hope he can maintain. I love his presence. Vet-like.
And Judge impressed me
adamg : 8/21/2016 1:43 am : link
with his calming down at the plate and forcing them to throw strikes. McCann gets an assist for the 2 run single after that steal forcing the full count fastball that he served for a hit. But, his next at bat he finally calmed enough to let himself get a walk. I swear they've pitched around him the entire series but his patience was so low he got himself out. He could get 2 BB tomorrow easy.

As excellent fielder as Sanchez appears and
xman : 8/21/2016 2:17 am : link
as terrific a hitter as he looks, this might mean that he will not be a catcher for long. I know I am getting ahead of the issue but is that a real possibility a la Joe Mauer?
meanwhile McCann is stealing bases and scoring from 2B on singles -
Del Shofner : 8/21/2016 2:48 am : link
lol - it looks like the guy is just having fun playing baseball as a DH.
Garret Anderson was inducted into the Angels
Kulish29 : 8/21/2016 3:09 am : link
HOF today. Got me thinking, and looking. He hit 35 homers in 2000. 28 in 2001 and then 29 the next two years; one of those years being the Angels only World Series team.

Bonds got all the shit in 2002 but, the Angels should be the poster boys for a nearly all roid team that won a championship.

Pretty obvious the plan to pitch to Judge is low and away. I've noticed that is where he appears vulnerable. Last few games the pitchers have been getting FBs low and outside for called strikes, then follow up with sliders same place forcing him to defend and going outside the zone.
He has to go ARod and drive those to right center like ARod used to.

Meanwhile Sanchez does not seem to have a cold spot(s).
per NY Post, Severino ordered to work on changeup
Del Shofner : 8/21/2016 10:13 am : link
irrespective of results. Hard to argue with the development folks at the moment ... Sanchez, Judge, Green, Cessa all looking good.
Severino - ( New Window )

Garret Anderson never struck me as a PED guy. He tore us up though
Austin seems to be pressing terribly.
yatqb : 8/21/2016 10:30 am : link
Kid just needs to relax, because he can hit.
Be nice
bceagle05 : 8/21/2016 4:51 pm : link
if we could break through against this slop thrower.
I'm not saying anything ground breaking
Kyle in NY : 8/21/2016 5:01 pm : link
but it is unbelievable how bad Ellsbury and that contract are. And how predictable it was at the time. He looks completely overmatched.

Headley too. Frustrating when the guy they traded to get him (Solarte) is outproducing him for a fraction of the cost.

Fun watching the kids, but still a lot of dead weight that needs to go.
I was just thinking the same thing about ellsbury
B in ALB : 8/21/2016 5:06 pm : link
When he weakly popped out to 2nd. He's horrid.
And then he does that.
B in ALB : 8/21/2016 5:08 pm : link
Hahaha.
Ellsbury nice play!!!!
DennyInDenville : 8/21/2016 5:08 pm : link
Agree tho.

It would be nice to buy him out as well as Headly and start Torreyes and Gardener.

Amazing catch tho wow
Nice play
Kyle in NY : 8/21/2016 5:11 pm : link
doesn't change anything though :)

Els has a full NTC... Not sure Hal is ready to write him the 90 million dollar check and say good bye just yet.

Bad contract.
The guys making over a million dollars have put together
shockeyisthebest8056 : 8/21/2016 5:19 pm : link
a shitty collection of ABs with runners on base.
Blue jays and Red Sox both lost today
B in ALB : 8/21/2016 5:22 pm : link
It'd be nice to pick up another game.
Have to say
JPinstripes : 8/21/2016 5:25 pm : link
Wilson for Cessa and Green is turning out to be a very good trade by Cash.
Seriously man. I know we are rebuilding
DennyInDenville : 8/21/2016 5:26 pm : link
But I really want a win today!!!

Re: Ellsbury, I know that contract is and always was an albatross, maybe the worst contract in modern Yankees history easily.

Maybe Sanchez can hit a dinger
Green has been good today for sure
DennyInDenville : 8/21/2016 5:26 pm : link
And Cessa looked fantastic last night. Looked like a solid number 2-3 pitcher potentially.
Sucks that Joe sat Judge today.
Dave in Hoboken : 8/21/2016 5:26 pm : link
Judge needs his rest, though..
Green did his job. Cannot
section125 : 8/21/2016 5:27 pm : link
ask for much more that 1 run on 5 hits..
The Yankees have announced that this Friday will be Mark Teixeira's
shockeyisthebest8056 : 8/21/2016 5:29 pm : link
final game.

(Not really.)
Ellsbury. Is a bum.
B in ALB : 8/21/2016 5:47 pm : link
.
Two on for Didi.
bceagle05 : 8/21/2016 5:52 pm : link
How bout a double in the gap?
Green with another great start.
Dave in Hoboken : 8/21/2016 5:55 pm : link
Very encouraging for the Yanks. We might actually have good young offensive players and good young pitchers. Awesome.
Oh fuck you.
bceagle05 : 8/21/2016 5:58 pm : link
What a frustrating game.
Don't know how Didi misses that
Kyle in NY : 8/21/2016 5:58 pm : link
just one shitty pitch (and pitcher) after another but we can't do a thing
Awful ABs by Didi and Castro.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 8/21/2016 5:58 pm : link
Didi's was especially awful.
That eff you was to Castro!
bceagle05 : 8/21/2016 5:58 pm : link
.
Have the yanks even been 5 games above .500 at all this season yet?
micky : 8/21/2016 6:01 pm : link
.
Hope Judge hits in the 9th
Kyle in NY : 8/21/2016 6:02 pm : link
and then doesn't come out of the lineup. With Hicks actually hitting a bit lately, Ellsbury shouldn't be an every day player.
High pitches to Didi.
section125 : 8/21/2016 6:02 pm : link
With that upper cut swing all he could do was beat it into the ground.

Wow Teix is up 2nd in the 9th. My how times have changed. Couple years back I'd have been happy. Now, just an out.
Those two shitty little seeing eye
section125 : 8/21/2016 6:12 pm : link
grounders by Pujols and Cron were all the Yanks needed last at bat.
Shift killed them that time.
section125 : 8/21/2016 6:14 pm : link
Three really shitty little grounders with two outs.

No they have not been to 5 games over .500 this year.
Great player, that Chase Headley.
bceagle05 : 8/21/2016 6:17 pm : link
.
I could go without seeing Tex or Headley for a LONG, LONG TIME.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 8/21/2016 6:17 pm : link
Forever really.
Was Headley hungover today?
Kyle in NY : 8/21/2016 6:19 pm : link
Missed that by a foot. Lame effort.

Crazy as it is, a playoff spot is there to be had but games like this one or the rain game against Toronto really hurt those efforts.
Don't understand
JPinstripes : 8/21/2016 6:21 pm : link
why Binders feels the need to tinker with the line up.

They have been scoring runs, don't change things up until they cool off...

LOL... not only Judge but Torreyes has been swinging a hot bat. Headley was terrible today.
Better be the last time
Kyle in NY : 8/21/2016 6:31 pm : link
Both Judge and Austin are out of the lineup at the same time.
They were scoring runs...
Dave in Hoboken : 8/21/2016 6:32 pm : link
so clearly there was a need to tinker around with the lineup...right?

Tex swings at ball four with the bases loaded. I expect that from a rookie. If he is going to act like a rookie, Austin should be in there. You want to claim Austin defense isn't the greatest. Fine, put Tex in the later innings for defense.
