NFT: Doc Gooden - sad stories of recent days

ChathamMark : 8/21/2016 9:15 pm
Read that he missed a radio appearance with Darryl Strawberry a few days back. Said it was medical related. After the 30:30 TV documentary could tell addiction was very hard for him. Sad, a truly dominant pitcher in his early days. Hope he gets help. Very sad letter in the link from his old girlfriend, just a few hours old. Darryl trying to help too.

Best wishes Doc. Hope you beat this thing

I met Darryl at the local high school last fall.

And implied he's been clean for a while.

He didn't look good to me, and he was hard to understand. Very fast mumbling.

Pretty rough stuff.
The 30 for 30 doc

Was troubling and awkward to say the least. I literally cringed every time they showed doc and Darryl at that diner reminiscing. He's a mess... Just Fucking sucks.
Doc looked awful during the 30 for 30.

He was so twitchy and clearly fucked up. I really hope he gets better. I really feel for the guy.. he just can't stop getting pulled back into this illness.
Heard about this on boomer and carton

Pray gooden comes around and gets help before too late.

I prefer to remember him more like he was when he was still healthy and young and the most dominant pitcher in baseball.

Sad reality is that he has been an addict for almost his entire adult life. I hope I'm wrong but it seems like a long shot at this point he every gets truly clean.

Have to give Strawberry credit though he was headed down the same road but seems to have completely turned his life around.
He didn't look good last weekend when

He was at Yankee Stadium for the 96 World Series team ceremony. Damn shame

...
I mean you look at a guy like Lawrence Taylor or Strawberry
djm : 8/22/2016 10:51 am : link
both guys have been through the meat grinder and that's being kind. Both guys still have their demons and it wouldn't shock me if either or both fall off wagons and misstep from now until their dying breath---and both guys look like pillars of strength when standing next to Gooden.

I've been friends with that guy before. Much like Gooden, he will never get better. There's bad, and then there's Gooden level bad. Awful.
Saw a pic of Doc who posed for a pic

With a Facebook friend recently. He looked awful. All the comments were about how bad he looked. Sad.
he definitely looked like hell in both the 30 for 30 and the '96

champs ceremony. It's very sad to see. Doc always seemed like a decent guy who just can't shake the demons.
