And while he was a veteran rather than a rookie, Glenallen Hill in 2000 had an amazing hot streak: 40 G, 132 AB, .333/.378/.735, 16 HR, 5 2B, 175 OPS+.
Is really short to the ball, so he can wait a bit or go find it away. He also lets his top hand go, which is what Charlie Lau used to teach. I think Walt Hriniak taught it, too.
in a keeper league (fantasy) so I tried spinning Sanchez (pre callup) in a deal for Bregman to a Yankee fan and he wrote a message on the website basically saying my offer was idiotic... who is the idiot now! woooooooo lol

With that big body, it would be hard to keep two hands on the bat through the swing and maintain balance on the follow through...

Piazza, Ortiz and Mo Vaughn all keep/kept both hands on the bath throughout and all are/were huge dudes.
Although he didn't teach it exclusively. I had Charlie Lau's hitting video when I was a kid, and I did end up with the one-hand follow through because I have short arms and it helped me get better extension on my swing.

Piazza is a lot leaner than Sanchez. Mo Vaughn - I can't remember his swing. I think Ortiz has a much shorter swing and I picture him letting go ( I might be wrong).
Joel Sherman in NYP on keeping both McCann and Sanchez next year: Â
Would Atlanta blink in the offseason and take on more of the contract and trade from among the sport’s deepest base of young pitchers? Or would another team do something similar? Because if not, well, here is Cashman:
“They [McCann and Sanchez] are our best two catchers by far, and our best team has both on the field. I would venture to guess that Sanchez-McCann would be the top catcher tandem in the game. McCann has struggled in the second half, but he was a borderline All-Star this year. So as far as I am concerned, he has a lot of value to us, let alone anyone else.”
Maybe that is posturing, but I don’t think so. Cashman said the playing time is skewed now because Sanchez is hot. The 23-year-old has the AL’s second-best OPS in August (minimum 50 plate appearances) and just was named the AL Player of the Week. But this is about 2017. The Yankees are going to try to contend, and their best chance to do so would be with McCann and Sanchez because:
1. Sanchez and Romine both will be out of options next year. Thus, neither could be sent to the minors without exposing them to waivers. So, Sanchez is on the roster all of next year no matter what. But if he struggles, would the Yankees be comfortable with Romine as the main catcher? Before you say he won’t struggle, did you predict Michael Conforto going back to the minors this year?
2. There are 1,000-plus plate appearances for McCann/Sanchez to share. Ideally, Sanchez could catch 100 games and DH for 30, and McCann could catch 60 and DH 60-70.
“We have two catchers who hit from the opposite side, and that has a lot of value for us,” Cashman said.
Most of the dynasty Yankees didn't. Jeter, Bernie, O'Neill, Po, those guys all used two hands. Tino did it a little bit, but only at the very hand. Strawberry had a very pronounced one-handed swing, though.
will be traded, a la Cervelli. I like McCann a lot. But he is more likely to be traded. I could live with Romine as back up.
Also, Bird is not a certainty to return with the same hitting ability right away. I can see Bird starting in SWB to get the swing back. McCann can play some 1st base to keep his bat in the lineup.
Sanchez as #1 catcher, occasional DH. Having Romine too would be a luxury. They could probably get something decent for him because he is a good defensive catcher.
Romine would actually be good for the Mets. They need a really good Â
be shocked if McCann is a Yankee next year. He has some value, catcher is so weak around the league. Someone will either take his entire deal with very little return or give up something "solid" with the Yankees eating some cash.
McCann

Should be traded. He's been in decline since his mid 20s. We don't need big salaried vets clogging the 40 man roster going forward.
He would have been if the Yankees hadn't demanded Ender and Folty along with not picking up much of the tab when they wanted the Braves to bail them out of a contract they no longer want.
There are only about a dozen differences, starting with the fact that Montero was always considered a questionable catcher who could hit. Turns out that he was also an outlier, in the sense that he was lazy as bleep, not aq usual attribute of highly talented hitting prospects.

No reason to think that Sanchez is Montero-like either as a catcher or as a human being. Sanchez will never be Montero. - ( New Window )
In fairness the knock on Sanchez was that he was immature . Since the suspension he has received praise for his hard work but at one point there was an "immature/bad attitude" tag on Sanchez that he has seemingly overcome (and improved defense as well). Despite a great arm there was some talk of him moving to 1b or even DH if his defense didn't improve. It has.
do you want him catching on a regular basis if his hitting is this good? I would say yes for the time being but catch him 100 games, give Romine 60 games and let him DH the rest
One of the things that made the dynasty tens so good was they had plus hitters at defensive positions - Jeter at short, Bernie in center, Posada behind the plate.
Besides, Romine isn't nearly good enough to merit 60 starts. If they trade McCann, I'd rather see Higashioka as the backup.
This is on the assumption that McCann is traded back Â
to Atlanta which seems like something he wants. If McCann is still here then the current arrangement still applies with Sanchez catching 100 games and McCann DH'ing 100 games
But still, if he can be a legit 25hr guy holy shit

Hell, he's on pace for 25 plus homers this year!

Hriniak was Lau's protégé.

He's 4th among AL catchers (counting Lucroy just since the trade), 12th league wide.
