A stunner: Former starting center Bryan Stork is being released by the #Patriots today, I'm told. Crazy.
Maybe a suspension is looming
robbieballs2003 : 8/24/2016 9:14 am : link
?
Considering we dont have a backup C
Old Dirty Beckham : 8/24/2016 9:16 am : link
This is definitely worth a look.

well, everyone says that Stork is brain damaged

any experience (college or pro)

playing OG? Would be nice to add some depth to LG/C/RG...
Can he play OG?
JonC : 8/24/2016 9:17 am : link
Giants tend to look for versatility among their backups. Not to mention, Stork should be able to find a starting gig elsewhere.
That would be a great signing
Jay on the Island : 8/24/2016 9:18 am : link
but he is likely to go to a place where he has a better chance to start like Chicago.
Wow. That's kind of shocking.
Klaatu : 8/24/2016 9:18 am : link
I remember arguing with some Pats fans about which team drafted the better Center in 2014, the Giants, with Richburg, or the Pats, with Stork.

HELL NO!

Has to be a reason for it. It's obviously not performance based. He's a good player.
Why wouldn't the Pats try to trade him?
robbieballs2003 : 8/24/2016 9:19 am : link
The immediate action taken sounds reactionary to some bad news.

Wouldn't he still be subject to the waiver process? If NY wants him, they could put a claim in.
Pass

BBI rules say if a player is released by another team he must be, by definition, no good.
Patriots C Bryan Stork (concussion)
Gross Blau Oberst : 8/24/2016 9:21 am : link
returned to practice Monday.

It is great news for Stork, who has a troubling history win concussions including a serious head injury which landed him on injured reserve-designated for return last season. Stork is competing with David Andrews for the starting center job. Aug 8 - 10:39 AM
Weren't the Patriots.....

extremely disappointing with their line play last year?

BB is obviously cleaning house on their offensive line.

Also weird considering they have so many issues/injuries there already.....continuity would seem important.
Has played G and RT (in a pinch)
drkenneth : 8/24/2016 9:23 am : link
Looks like concussion issues.
yeesh
UConn4523 : 8/24/2016 9:23 am : link
if his concussion history is that bad then no thanks.
Major issues with him

Oof. I knew he had a concussion or two on his resume.. didn't know he had that many. That's bad.

There quite a few currently silent BBI'ers who were bashing the Giants for taking Richburg in the 2nd round when they could have taken Stork in the 4th.
If the issue is concussions,
Randy in CT : 8/24/2016 9:41 am : link
then it might be worth a look as a back up. Or OG who doesn't need to step in immediately.

You are right I forgot that he is subject to waivers.
Belichick makes one "surprise" move
BigBlueinChicago : 8/24/2016 9:42 am : link
in training camp every couple of years.

Last year or the year before it was trading Logan Mankins.

One year is cutting Lawyer Milloy a week before the season.

Another year it was trading Richard Seymour just prior to the season.

Another year he cut Brandon Meriweather just before the 2011 season.

There have been a few others.

I think Bill does it to send a message to his team that no one (except Brady and Gronk) is safe in their position here. Keep everyone on their toes and not be complacent enough to think their job can't be revoked tomorrow.

It's a very unique tactic that for him seems to get the results he wants.

If with the SAME circumstances at play,
Big Blue '56 : 8/24/2016 9:44 am : link
Stork or simlar talent was cut by Reese, this place would be ablaze with vitriol.

Parcells did the same thing, iirc.
Reading the commentary from Pats fans, Stork had been dealing

with a number of concussions, but he was also known to be a hothead.

Conrad O'Connell ‏@conradoconnell
yeah hes had some issues. The whole head butt incident in the AFC Champ game kinda made me sour on him.

Jayson Braddock ‏@JaysonBraddock
concussion history & reportedly having outbursts in practices

Fast Start Dannick ‏@ThatStatBoy
Does this have to do with all the concussions or the fact that he's a bad locker room presence?

Neil Axelrod ‏@NeilAxelrod
Not a stunner if you've paid attention to the Patriots.

Tim Taylor ‏@timtaylor22
not even close to a stunner. Tons of concussions and Andrews has outperformed him. Everyone saw it coming.

Well, you know, when I'm not climbing mountains or flying around in my wingsuit, I do like to talk about the draft.

"Stork, who was in the process of losing the starting job to 2015 undrafted free agent David Andrews, also got himself booted from a joint practice with the Chicago Bears last week for mixing it up with Bears linebacker Sam Acho."

Why would he be disappointed, when he basically fielded a walking mash unit. They played a center at LT for Christ sakes. That is crazy.

They also fired their OL coach too I believe after last season.
Yes it's true
pjcas18 : 8/24/2016 10:52 am : link
the Patriots lured Dante Scarnecchia out of retirement to coach the OL again after last year's debacle.

They made him an assistant head coach too.

Malcolm Butler was also kicked out of that practice for fighting with Alshon Jefferey. I hope they cut him too.

interesting thing though is,...they still need a backup center. Backup Center, in my opinion is the 2nd most important backup position on a team, other than QB.

I doubt any Stork guys will admit it now.

Here's an article before Stork was cut

that talks about his "issues"
Patriots Notebook: Bryan Stork Fights To Win Center Job and That's The Bad News - ( New Window )
"A few reasons why the Patriots might have released...
Mike in St. Louis : 8/24/2016 1:18 pm : link
former starting center Bryan Stork" - from Yahoo (for what that's worth)...

"This is now the fifth member of the teams 2014 draft class whom the team has released, including first-rounder Dominique Easley....Knowing when to cut bait on player has become a hallmark of the Bill Belichick regime, and he does it without emotional tie, which is a rare trait in this stubborn NFL."

"The team getting Stork will be getting a one-position player with an extremely tough and surly disposition, but also a player who has been beset by injuries in his brief career."

"This pushes David Andrews to the head of the line now as the starting center. By all accounts so far this training camp, Andrews had outplayed Stork."
