-Mets back in wild card race (sort of lol) 3.5 back
-deGrom VS Martinez tonight
-Niese to the DL (Good, finally some good news. lol)
-Yoenis Cespedes tells the Record’s Matt Ehalt he plans to honor all three years of his contract with the Mets. Still, columnist Bob Klapisch in the Record advises that the Mets be ready for the alternative. Is this possible?
-The Walkers had their baby
Yea it was. I was a little worried after the SNY crew's commentary in the 1st inning, but he looked great beating out that single.
Even if we can't take him at face value on honoring the contract, it's clear that he likes it here and that the Mets can get something done before he gets to FA.
it would be irresponsible with the year he's had.
it would be irresponsible with the year he's had.
But it's not the agent's call. If Cespedes actually wants to stay under the existing contract he can't do anything about it. His agent can try and talk him into a new contract with the Mets but when push comes to shove, Cespedes makes the decision. Didn't Cespedes have better $$ offers than the one he signed with Mets? I'm guessing his agent wanted him to go where the the bigger $$ was then. I get the sense Cespedes is his own man and will listen to options but make decisions based on what he wants to do and where he feels the most comfortable. If it's NY, a few million won't deter him.
Well, he's the one saying it.. it's not like it's speculation.
He said this when he signed the deal, too. He said he was going to stay for all 3 years.
I think he's crazy if he does it but it's pretty obvious that Cespedes isn't wired the same as everyone else. I think he's been looking for a real home since he came to the majors and that the fans here have embraced him in a way that he hadn't been embraced in Oakland, Boston or Detroit. He might just feel comfortable here and honestly want to stay.
I still think at the end of the day, he'd probably opt out only because of the fact that he could get a really big contract on the open market this winter but I think it would be very easy to keep him here. All the Mets need to do is tack on 2-3 years with a similar AAV and I think he'd agree to it in a second.

""I would like to be in a Tigers uniform for many years," Cespedes said Sunday through an interpreter in his first interview with English-speaking media since he reported to camp. "It's a good team now and it will be for many years to come. Every major league player wants a ring, and with this team, you have a really good chance."

Not sure why this is a thing now, but Yoenis Cespedes reiterated past comments: wants to honor his contract & no decision made on opt-out.

Hasn't talked to his agent about it. If something happens it will happen after the season via the agent.

Terry Collins confirmed that Neil Walker will remain on paternity leave for the entire Cardinals series. Walker plans to rejoin the Mets on Friday at Citi Field. He welcomed a newborn daughter on Tuesday morning in Pittsburgh.

Kevin Plawecki didn’t get consistent playing time with the Mets and hit .194. He was sent back to the 51s after Travis d’Arnaud returned from the disabled list in June. Since then, he’s hit .307 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs at Las Vegas entering Tuesday. [...]
Matt Reynolds has shuttled back and forth between Las Vegas and New York, with three call-ups since starting the season at Triple A. Ty Kelly also has been back and forth. [...]
Young outfielders Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo also should find themselves back in New York.
Since being sent down in August, both have been handling Triple-A pitching with apparent ease. Conforto has hit .550 in his past 10 games and .426 overall in 26 games at Triple A, and Nimmo is battling for the Pacific Coast League batting title.
Entering Tuesday, Nimmo was hitting .346, and Backman has said Nimmo has been the most improved player he’s had over the course of a season.

he seemed to have fallen an early cliff from his All Star best age 26 season to this current age 29 season as a barely replacement level player
Jonathon Niese will undergo arthroscopic surgery
Ironically, the highlight of Niese's season might have been beating the Mets on June 7. Double whammy.
Oh well.. Cabrera is on fire.
Bummer.. If he is out long, it may be time to promote Conforto now
They are saying that Bruce came out of the game with a calf cramp. A cramp. Really?
let Robles and Goeddel and Henderson take the mound.
Amazing.
Amazing.
That is brutal.
Best recent naming has to be the Dolphins hooking up with the Hard Rock. What could be better than having The Rock opening up the Rock for the Hurricanes this year. They seriously nailed it.
I hope Harvey, Wheeler, Matz, etc can come back healthy next year and we can field a contender. I don't hate on the Yankees but man, did that rebuild take no time! Our Yankee buddies on that thread sound like us, last year!
