Oh my...OHH MY GOODNESS GRACIOIUS!! FINAALLLY PUMPKIN BEER IS BACK!! My favorite beer time of the year if fall. Pumpkin beers...Oktoberfests... So many pumpkin beers to try..
hating Pumpkin Ales and left liking them, but not loving them. I'm always willing to give beer another go though, which brewers make the best Pumpkin Ales?
My favorite is Dogfish Head, but my sample size is small, I maybe tried 3 or 4 different ones last year and Dogfish Head easily stood out.
Warlock is my favorite. Pumpking (by the same brewery) used to be the class of the bunch but last few batches since they expanded production havn't been as good. The Weyerbacher, Dogfishhead and Hoppin' Frog pumpkin beers are favs of mine too.
but they're too light. I want a beer that'll put some hair on your back, some sting in your zing, some crust in your crotch, some dingleberries in your dingle...

I do love Oktoberfests but when it's hot I like a refreshing beer when it's hot out. It's just that simple.
same, lemony summer beers are the worst. I'd rather drink nothing than drink Blue Moon or others like it. In fact, I can't drink wheat beers at all.
Same. Sam Adams used to have a cherry wheat my brother-in-law would bring to my house at every family event and leave most of them. I hate wasting beer, but I couldn't stomach them. It was like drinking a Ludens cherry cough drop. I'd pour them out.
just reading this article about pumpkin beer. I recently moved and one of the local bars has a pretty sweet (rotating) beer selection that rivals most bars I have ever been to. I suspect they will have a nice pumpkin selection Link - ( New Window )
to be pretty undrinkable across the board. Overmarketed and underperforming. I'f i'm paying $10-$12 for a 6-pack, no chance they get my money.
Their Oktoberfest used to be very good, but it has deteriorated in quality, in my opinion.
As for the rest of their line -- particularly the winter season stuff -- way too much of the "brewed with spices" crap. I really don't care for those at all.
I used to be a fan of a lot of their stuff. But with the rising prices and deteriorating quality, I've been looking at other options (like Saranac, for example) for the last few years.
I just don't like the "spice" flavoring in many Oktoberfest beers, even though someone on here yelled at me last year or the year before saying there was no spice flavor in Oktoberfest beers.
while crapping all over every mainstream brew. AND GO!
As BBI turns.
As cliche'd as it is, its never been more true than in the beer world. Most foods/drinks are pretty comparable, but generally speaking craft brews are just infinitely better than the mainstream stuff. I don't need expensive pizza, soda, ice cream, etc., but I'm going to pay extra for good beer.
I still drink a corona and the like during the summer if I go to the beach or its really hot, but that's pretty much it.

Cherry Wheat and Two Roads Road Jam are two of the worst beers I've ever had. Absolutely dreadful.

People like what they like and dislike what they dislike. I've had many a Budweiser in my life but I can't stomach Bud Light. I think it's nasty.
Given a choice, I'll go with craft ale. I'm a beer geek, not a snob, but I just don't get the grapefruit IPA trend. If you want a citrus flavor, make an American IPA and add a lot of cascade hops.

I'm just trying to instigate, that's all...haha. And I agree with you that paying for good brew is worth it. And while I have to admit that I am a fan of Sam Adams Oktoberfest, I'm not a fan of Coors Light, Bud Light, or Corona (which I used to drink like a fish in college). Sadly, my brother and my neighbors only really drink Coors Light...:(
i switched my high volume drinking beer from Bud Light to Coors Light.
Coors Light has less gluten, and while I have no gluten issues, I find it less abrasive on my stomach.
When you have 12 - 20 beers on a football Sunday you can't drink high end beer, and the bud mud was just too much of a next-day price to pay, so I switched to Coors Light.

Oh I hear you. I'm just giving people a hard time since this is sort of BBI thing, even though I agree that paying for good beer is worth it.
With that being said, I just never got into IPAs. Too hoppy for me. I'm a fan of good stout when it comes to stronger flavor, but IPAs, I just can't. And I'm a huge fan of wheat beer.

I didn't even realize the difference between the two. Whenever we have a neighborhood firepit night on our culdesac, all of the guys will bring out beers, and Coors Light is the beer of choice although one of my neighborhood from Pottsville, PA always drinks Yingling (which I don't mind). I'll drink their Coors Light and in return I'll provide some craft beer for them, which they seem to enjoy a lot. They're just a bunch of cheap bastards.
does Grapefruit right. I laughed when Magic Hat ripped it off with Electric Peel which tasted like someone poured grapefruit juice on top of an already brewed beer. Its terrible.
But Grapefruit Sculpin is fantastic. I'm pissed they sold out though, so I don't buy them anymore.
I think it is just a pumpkin beer with a shot of Stoli vanilla maybe. It was actually quite delicious.
There are a bunch of good pumpkin beers. Southampton pumpkin ale is actually really good too.
For those that like ciders, woodpecker makes a pumpkin cider that is hard to get. They are good but you have to be in the mood for something sweet. I actually do not like their other ciders as they are overly sweet but the pumpkin cider is delicous though.
Some others have already been mentioned. And pumpkin and beer do go together. Supposedly it is one of the oldest types of beers in america.
My favorite is Dogfish Head, but my sample size is small, I maybe tried 3 or 4 different ones last year and Dogfish Head easily stood out.
I hate when they put sugar around the rim of the glass if you get it on tap (which is way better than in a bottle or can IMO).
I, like Uconn, went from hating them to liking them. I'll try more this year.
Not a summer brew fan.
I bought into the craze years ago when Petes Summer Brew came out and led the charge, now everyone has a summer brew.
whatever happened to Pete's anyway?
I do love Oktoberfests but when it's hot I like a refreshing beer when it's hot out. It's just that simple.
And I am not a fan of the pumpkin beers.
Pumpking is a drain pour for me
My favorites:
1) Schalfly Pumpkin
2) Cigar City Good Gourd
Yes...Sam replaced their Summer about two weeks ago.
I envy my fellow FLIDs back home this time of year

I don't live in CT, but a buddy of mine just got a lease signed to open his own brewery in MA, and he raves about Sip of Sunshine from Stratford, CT.
Them, Treehouse in Munson, MA, and obviously Heady Topper from Burlington, VT (or near there).
not that this is related to pumpkin beer, but your comment about CT brewery made me think of it.

good call on Leaf Pile...and DFH Punkin is this the grandaddy for me.

Went to a wedding and it was already on tap.
Already had Heavy Seas Treasure Fest and it was OK. Really can't beat the Germans.
Can't wait for Bronx Brewery's Autumn Pale Ale. Anybody seen it around yet?
Vin, how is the Two Roads Oktoberfest. A local store carries them and their stuff is usually solid

Sip of Sunshine is still my favorite beer. I've had a ton of IPA's and their brew is just the perfect mix of hops, citrus, and ABV.
But Grapefruit Sculpin is fantastic. I'm pissed they sold out though, so I don't buy them anymore.
And I dont care how it looks, a Shipyard with the cinnamon sugar rim is delicious.

I like the Shipyard beer - it wasn't the looks, the sugar on the rim gets gritty and sandy. I don't like salt on the rim of a margarita though either.
Otherwise I don't even mix anything my booze. Scotch neat, bourbon neat, vodka on the rocks, tequila straight, and no fruit in my beer.
