Q: Playing in a rodeo after practice? (In reference to the hat he was wearing)

A: Yeah, straight to the set.

Q: Have you ever ridden in a rodeo?

A: Yeah, I did. It is fun, well it was a mechanical bull.

Q: Is there anything that you haven’t done? It seems like you picked up every hobby around.

A: I picked up fencing this off-season. That was fun.

Q: Are you done with archery?

A: No.

Q: You can maybe go to the Olympics for that?

A: No man, I have a whole other respect for that. I don’t know how they --- the fencing and the archery is on another level.

Q: Third preseason game usually gets more snaps for the starters. How do you view it; and what are you hoping to get out of it?

A: Yeah, typically the starters get a chance to get more reps. I am excited about it. It is another opportunity to get out there with your teammates and get ready and prepare for the season and obviously, this game is always big. This is the two teams that represent New Jersey and New York and we’ve got the Snoopy Bowl out there, that is always fun to play for, but at the end of the day we have to, as an offensive unit, go out there and leave a good taste on the field --- start fast, finish strong, play every play fully and eliminate the self-inflicted wounds and give ourselves the right energy that we deserve to have going into the stadium. With all the preparation that we do, we deserve to go out there and earn the right to feel good.

Q: To this point the first team offense has been spotty. Is it more mental, physical, chemistry, just feel? What has not been there from your perspective that you need to see?

A: Just consistency and transferring how we practice to the field because when we put on the practice tape we are seeing a lot of things done well and it is just transitioning from practice to the game.

Q: What do you make of the running game from the first two games?

A: We have seen some flashes of what we can do when we get body on body. Running backs are keen on the right holes and the right people, fighting for extra yards, so we are strong there. We just have to go out and keep building on it. Obviously we are not where we want to be, but I think we are heading in the right direction - and when I say where we want to be, you are talking to a running back, you are talking to somebody who has high standards, so if we were the leading rushing team, I’m still going to say we aren’t where we want to be, so remember who you are talking to.

Q: Steve Spagnuolo was just in here saying that the NFL now is basketball on grass. Do you think the running game is still important to being successful, starting this week and going forward?

A: I don’t think so at all, I know. I don’t care what you have going on out there on the field, you cannot control --- every single team I have ever been on and this is a new team even if you are with the same organization every year. Every team I have ever been on has had the same message, stop the ball, stop the run and run the football, so yes, it is pivotal to the game.

Q: There was a comment made by an opposing player that there is going to be a “hit out” on Odell this year. If there is a “hit out” on Odell, do you as a teammate feel like you have a responsibility to have his back on the field?

A: What do you mean about going after him?

Q: Like after the whistle.

A: Like in between the whistle?

Q: No, like after the whistle.

A: Well, the league will take care of that.

Q: So what about within the whistle?

A: Well, then that is playing football. They are going to be out there, me just as well as anyone with the football in their hands, so anything else is just for click bait.

Q: What is your level of optimism for this team for this year?

A: It is high. It is very high because when we look around the locker room we see what we have and from the top to the bottom, first string to second string, third, we have got talent and especially for the offensive side of the ball - speaking from this being our third year and we understand the offense inside and out, so it should be high.

Q: Was it good to see Victor out there?

A: Yeah, absolutely. It is fun to see him out there. Eight-Oh is a guy you can’t replace. He brings a type of energy to the field that nobody else can. He is explosive, he is fast, he can catch, he does everything that you want from a receiving standpoint and he is a good leader, so having him back out there on the field is going to make a difference. He is a big part of this offense.

Q: Do you think he has to prove anything to people here?

A: Saying he needs to prove is kind of tricky. He wants to prove it to himself, I am sure. He holds himself to a high standard, that I am sure everyone else does. Naturally, people have opinions, but for somebody who loves this game, who has done so much for this organization, the only thing he wants to do is to continue to pick up where he left off, and that is helping this team win championships, so he is excited. You can see it in his face and he is right where we need him to be right now.

Q: Does he need to prove anything to you personally?

A: No, he doesn’t need to prove anything to me.

Q: As a teammate you have been talking about Victor’s potential return for a while now. What is it going to mean for you guys, after seeing all the work he has done, to finally get him back out there in a game?

A: It will be fun. Look, what would you feel like? Aren’t you excited to see him play too? Everybody is asking because you are excited. Well listen, I am human just like you all. I want to see it too. That is my teammate, that is someone who is explosive, who changes the game and is going to be a big part of this offense and this team, so of course we want him out there.
