That gif is interesting. I admit to not knowing the blocking assignments, but it sure looks like he didn't blow the block. He appears to be going to the second level for a linebacker, while the two players to his right (#87 and #85) go to the same defender. I can't believe that part was by design. My guess is that #87 is supposed to pick up the defender who got through unblocked.

Am I wrong?

85 blocks down, reaches left and collapses 90. 87 and 88 combo. Stork seals the LB over the top. It's a trap out a 3TE set. Easy TD for Blount if it's blocked correctly.

Your gif and whatever you're intimating about Stork on that play are shit.

Stork should make the sight adjustment there though, if he knows the TEs are sealing and he's down blocking, who the fuck would block the DT? He has to see that at the alignment and change the protection, that is definitely on him.

Then why did the linemen on his left side also down block to their left? Since we don't know the call and can only go by appearances, then it appears that either the player on his right should have down block left as well or someone forgot to pull as B suggested.
Stork was the T on an overload on the right side.
B in ALB : 8/24/2016 9:39 pm : link
Brady probably audibles something there after seeing the goal line formation from Washington, quick counts it and 85 misses it. It's an easy TD. The only player that could possibly have fucked that up, fucked that up bad.

I'd be more concerned with how the Skins lined up. Look at that shit. It's basically a 2 on 4 on the strong side. That's horrible.

I just put it up to show he is not that wonderful.
love the football talk though I learn so much from you guys about parts of the game I never watch.
So I guess this was not his fault that the guy came through and got the RB?
Sorry shelovesnycsports

Didn't mean to be mean.

It's one gif that is very questionable without being in the huddle. And he was playing the T spot.
Considering some of the things said in here
shelovesnycsports : 8/24/2016 10:04 pm : link
That was not mean. I enjoy reading when you guys tear into a play and tell us what went wrong, that's good stuff.
The other thing I see...
Dan in the Springs : 8/24/2016 10:05 pm : link
is that he completely whiffed on the LB block, so either way, both defenders went right past him.

I meant to write #85 the first time, but forgot from the time I watched it to the time I was writing it.

You can tell from watching it that it was not blocked as designed, but you can't tell if Stork was at fault.

Anyway - thanks for posting. Fun to look at and discuss, and I agree - whatever gets these football minds (like B in ALB, Joey and Semipro) dissecting plays is good reading for me.

It's interesting you say that Stork didn't really block the LB. He was definitely standing up at the point when he engaged the LB. That sort of tells me he knew exactly what was going on and it was an easy TD. He didn't expect the play to really require him to block the LB considering the distance and matchup.
Also look at his short step with his left foot
B in ALB : 8/24/2016 10:17 pm : link
He's setting up and leading into a power step with his right leg to cross his defender. He's not drive blocking there. It's a set up. A set up to create that situation for 85. All he had to do was touch him with his inside shoulder. Blount hits the 5 hole (weirdly the 7 based on the overload) and creeps up the ass of the combo and he walks in. Easy TD. (And a really cool fuckin play design)

It would also be interesting to know when, what quarter, the score and situation here.
Perhaps what you're saying is true...
Dan in the Springs : 8/24/2016 10:39 pm : link
the way it looked to me was as though he lost his balance or didn't have his feet under him and the LB who was squarely set to the LOS with eyes on the runner was able to chuck him aside easily and put himself in position to be at the LOS had the runner tried to hit that hole.

But I know I'm just an amateur at this stuff.
Not easy for an OL to block in space
B in ALB : 8/24/2016 10:44 pm : link
But given the distance to goal I'll give him a pass.
