Thoughts on Josh Gordon. Out for 4 games, terrible QB, looked fat in the offseason, friends with Manziel. Anyone targeting him late?

I'd take him late
pjcas18 : 8/25/2016 10:02 am : link
in my 10-team non-ppr he went in the 9th round.

In my 12-team ppr keeper he went in the 6th round.

He's been good with bad QB's before.

what draft slot did you have in your ppr?
what is your team?
Yeah, he's been good with bad QB's,

league it's a keeper so hard to gauge if you're looking at what to expect.

I had the 5th pick, which I traded - to the dismay of every other team - for Odell Beckham.

My keepers were Gurley (5th round) Cooper (6th round)

We can start 4 WR's b/c we have two flexes and no mandatory TE.

My team is:

QB: Romo, RG3, prescott
RB: Gurley, Abdullah, Starks, D. Washington, K. Barner
WR: Beckham, Watkins, J. Landry, Cooper, M. Jones, D. Funchess, V. Cruz, M. Thomas
D/ST: Rams
K: none yet, need to drop someone

In pre-season or in general? He's been throwing to Terelle Pryor.

In general.

Pre-season means nothing. Less than nothing. When was the last WR that had good fantasy numbers with RG3 at QB?

Well I don't think he'll be running a read option.

2013, his last year as the starter:
Pierre Garcon:
113 catches, 1346 yards, 5 TD's

Some of that came from Cousins, but not much, Cousins had 850 yards all year.

But it's also relevant Garcon or an old Santana Moss were his best receivers. So, the read option and the WR quality of the WR's is relevant too.

I don't expect great things from RG3, and I doubt I ever start him or he last long on my bench, but I do think Gordon can have a good year with him at QB.

Agreed. Totally dismissing RGIII is not smart. Having questions and concerns is legit.

I have a feeling someone in my league is going to reach for Gordon so he's been kind of off my radar. I would consider taking him if he was still hanging around and I already had 4 WR's on my team that I trusted.
.
arcarsenal : 8/25/2016 10:24 am : link
Speaking of Browns WR's.. what about Terrelle Pryor? Is he on anyone's radar late?
I am contemplating taking him in the 7th if still available.
robbieballs2003 : 8/25/2016 10:28 am : link
Here are my keepers through 4 rounds

Cam
David Johnson
Demaryius Thomas
Jordy Nelson

I traded Devont Freeman to move up from 6th in the 6th round to 3rd in the fifth round. I will take more sure things with my 2 fifth round picks and if he is available in the 7th I will consider him with who is left. I am hoping to get another decent RB and WR although I will be going with the best player available. If I take 2 WRs then I will be more inclined to take a RB like Jennings if he is still available in the 7th. We only have to start 1 RB but obviously I cannot just completely rely on DJ.

He obviously is worth consideration as a late round guy. I think they force feed Coleman the ball so he is worth a spot. Pryot is a physical freak who has all but cemented that number 2 zpot with Gordon out. There is upside there. What is he 6'4" 240 with 4.3 speed?

the league I was in was post-season, so only playoff teams.

so it was different, but in your case if I were in a 2-QB league and it's 12 team and QB's get 6 pts per TD I go early with QB's.

12-team 2-QB leagues suck. if it's 10-team and 6pts per TD I'd still go QB early, but you don't need your 2nd one so early, and then I'd go BPA.

Here is what's left:

Flacco
Cutler
Smith
Osweiler
Goff
Bradford
Gabbert

that's pretty much it of the starting QB's.

I didn't see any of them as measurably better than RG3.

I could see maybe Goff for late round keeper potential, but his WR's are brutal

It depends where you draft. In a 12 team league if you pick at the end of the first your RB options seem limited throughout the draft. With 6 owners I doubt you havs that problem. BPA works if you can easily trade in your league. If not then you might bet better served to draft about 2 RBs and 2 WRs in your first 4 picks. Then you can load up more on WRs after and target some RBs later. However, with 2 QBs that throws a twist into it. I might target one of the top QBs in the first three rounds and then wait until late to get a guy Mariota or Palmer. Eli seems to be going around round 6ish in a 12 team league. Brady is going around the same time in CBS.

I think draft position plays a big role as well as your QB scoring. If QBs score a ton you may target 2 studs earlier than normal.

I could see Tavon Austin being worthy of a roster spot this year. He actually had 52 carries last year to go along with 52 catches so he gets a lot of touches. Almost 1,000 scrimmage yards and scored 9 times.

They were talking about Tavon on a podcast I listen to, and I had no idea he had nearly 500 yards on the ground. Makes for a good value play in late rounds.

As for Gordon, I think it boils down to personal philosophy: do you think talent and having "proven it" before trumps getting acclimated to a new system and time off?

I think your take on RG3 is too negative.

I don't want him under center for my team, but I don't view him as a retardant to WR production for fantasy. Remember -- Hugh Jackson is running that show now. I'm comfortable that the offense won't be entirely pathetic.

Having said that, I don't love Gordon simply for the fact of the 6 games. I don't follow snake drafting a ton, but I'm not a buyer anywhere near the ADPs I've seen. He won't be IR eligible in my leagues and I heavily value bench depth and roster flexibility. The roster spot is just too valuable for me. If I'm hurting at WR late in my auctions, maybe maybe a buck or two. But again, 6 weeks is longer than I want to tie up a roster slot.

I am going to try and take a flier on Terrelle Pryor.

I've never like RG3 as a passer or NFL QB. I don't think he's a good passer and I don't think he reads defenses well enough. His rookie year, the offense was perfect for him. It was all smoke and mirrors and allowed him to run a lot. He is not that guy. He's going to be forced to pass and I just don't think he's good at it. I think he's going to be a disaster in Cleveland eventually, but probably sooner rather than later.
Take Gordon
ryanmkeane : 8/25/2016 11:04 am : link
as early as you can without sacrificing some player that can really help you out the first 4 weeks. He'll be very good.

Thanks - pj, thanks too

It's actually 10 teams and 4pts for a passing td so I'm thinking of waiting on a QB until round 6 or so and maybe going back to back depending on who's available.

I think Houston becomes more of a running team. I am not a bug Osweiler fan but he did look decent last time out. I think he works for that team but in terms of being fantasy relevant there are just too many good QBs in the nfl to really draft Owsweiler unless it is a really deep type of league.
Had a 12 team draft the other day, picked 10th. .5 ppr.. thoughts?
knicks3031 : 8/25/2016 12:24 pm : link
QB: Romo, Brady

RB: Jamaal, Langford, Deangelo Williams, Coleman, Sproles

WR: Cooper, Benjamin, Landry, Kevin White, Rishard Matthews

TE: Barnidge

Also, thanks for that tip about Tavon..might target him in my next draft
What round did you get everyone in?
Keith : 8/25/2016 12:36 pm : link
Charles in 1? Cooper in 2? Bad value on both, IMO. Don't like your team to be honest.
Agree with Keith
pjcas18 : 8/25/2016 12:41 pm : link
who else was available when you took Charles and Cooper at 10 and 15?

Yea it is a keeper league so didn't go into detail about all that
knicks3031 : 8/25/2016 12:42 pm : link
but 24 players were kept, a lot of which were RBs, so I took Jamaal at 10, Amari at 15, Kelvin with my 3rd.
Then Benjamin in rd 3?
Keith : 8/25/2016 12:44 pm : link
Landry in rd 4 and Langford in rd5? If so, those are the only two picks that I like for you, haha. You don't have any strengths.

Your QB will be bottom half for the first 4 games, then top half.

Your RB's will probably be middle of the road.

Your WR's will be in the bottom of the league.

Your TE while solid, isn't in the upper echelon(especially with RG3).
Who were your

keepers?
Ah a keeper,
Keith : 8/25/2016 12:44 pm : link
might want to say that, haha.
The next 4 picks after Jamaal were
knicks3031 : 8/25/2016 12:46 pm : link

Alshon
Keenan Allen
Brandin Cooks

I was between Demaryius and Amari at 15. McCoy and Lacy were also available

RB is my biggest concern. I don't have true stars at WR but I'm hoping in a .5 ppr I can get by..
I am not touching Josh Gordon...
EricJ : 8/25/2016 12:52 pm : link
this guy will never change. He has had this issues since high school. He is not going to suddenly get straight. He may come back this season but he WILL get another "random" test and then he will be gone again. I will bet anything that he does not last the season.

Plus, I am hearing that Cleveland wants to move him in the worst way. So, you never know where he could end up and what his role would be.

If you want to grab him with your very last pick then fine. However, in reading some of the comments where people have drafted him in the middle rounds... forget it. Better luck next year with your fantasy team

Would it be crazy to take McCoy over Charles @ 2.8? I'm realizing that Charles falling to 2.8 is the scenario I am dreading because it means the first 17 picks were (likely)...

Brown, Beckham, Jones, DJ, Gurley, Hopkins, Peterson, Green, Marshall, Bryant, Robinson, Gronk, Allen, Miller, Elliott, Bell, Nelson

I would take any of the above players if they fell to 2.8 but I'm having a tough time bringing myself to take JC. So I passed on him to see what I'd wind up with and I really like this team.

Rivers, Stafford
McCoy, Forte, Hill, Gore, J White
Jones, Cooks, Floyd, Parker, Coleman
Reed

QB isn't ideal but a Rivers/Stafford combo should be pretty solid. I thought I could squeeze one more round out to wait for Eli because all 6 teams ahead of me had already taken a QB but the Rodgers team swiped him in the 9th rd.

It's possible I could have taken Cooper and gotten McCoy @ 3.3 but it's dicey and I felt like I'd rather make sure I get McCoy than risk losing out.. Cooks isn't a bad consolation as a WR2, IMO.
McCoy is going in 3rd/4th in most mocks
Keith : 8/25/2016 3:37 pm : link
that's the only reason I don't take him at 2.8.
