Browns are trading the sixth overall pick from the 2013 draft, LB Barkevious Mingo, to the New England Patriots, per source.

f-ing Reese. Asleep at the wheel once again.
I'd rather have Mongo.

Other than two guys named Joe...

has the Browns drafted anyone, who lived up to their first round draft expectations?
better name?

Barkevious Mingo or Van Lingle Mungo?
Typical Pats trade
teso56 : 8/25/2016 2:11 pm : link
They are buying low on a supposed high ceiling talent who didnt produce for a bad team. Mingo was one of those "athlete specimen" passrushers out of college. Scouts loved his "upside" Maybe Belichik can make this guy work
so why does it make sense?

Has Mingo been an underachiever?

Brandon Weeden, because everyone but the Browns expected him to suck.

Seven sacks in three years. I think underachiever is putting it mildly.
Pats' seem to think

that they have elite coaching and can get more out of talented underachievers than other teams.
Mingo not

WANT to be traded.

Shoot him!

No, don't shoot him--you'll only make him angry.
Also makes some sense for the Browns.
Enoch : 8/25/2016 2:23 pm : link
They know enough about Mingo to be convinced that he's not part of the long-term plan for the organization. And they've accepted that they're still going to suck in the short term, so why not get some value for him while you can?
.....
Klaatu : 8/25/2016 2:29 pm : link

It says here you've been traded to New England...
I guess the rumor is that it's for a 6th
njm : 8/25/2016 2:33 pm : link
If NE's conditional trades work out they would have 3 7th rd. picks, and have a 4th from Seattle to offset the pick they forfeited. Trade 2 7's for a 6th and they've got a full draft. Mingo's probably got more potential than anyone they'd draft in the 6th.
Must admit,

Or maybe Belichick just feels he has a role for him that the Browns were not utilizing. It could be a case of him being a better fit for their system than the Browns system.

Sorry my point here about making sense
pjcas18 : 8/25/2016 3:15 pm : link
was that the Patriots shop for players who have under-performed expectations or developed baggage elsewhere and sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't.

In this case it helps that Mingo was an extremely athletic college player and the Pats think Belichick can find a way to effectively use him.

it also helps that Michael Lombardi, now with the Patriots, was with the Browns when they drafted Mingo.

Jabal Sheard worked out well and I think they have a few other Cleveland cast-offs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Belichick make Mingo into a safety or some type of LB/DE hybrid. he's like a mad scientist.

analytics must say accumulating 2017 draft picks is the best way to rebuild.

Seems Belichickian.

2017 draft: Cleveland now has Philadelphia's 1st-round pick, Tennessees 2nd-round pick, New Englands 5th-round pick.
