NFT: How to clear an Android phone of all memory except contacts?

BlueLou : 8/25/2016 2:57 pm
I want to clear EVERYTHING from my phone except my contacts list...

Any easy way to do this? Pretty sure I have two sim cards handy.

TIA.
Are you averse to off loading your contacts into the cloud?

You could just sync up your Google contacts for easy backup and restore.

An app like Titanium Backup pro (name might be off there) lets you make local or cloud based backups of lots of stuff on your phone too.

Haven't used android in a while, but that should get you in the right direction.
And the clearing the phone part?

Return to factory condition, how do I do that to both the phone and the SIM?

Glowrider you need root to use Titanium Backup.

BlueLou - you best option/most efficient option is to sync ALL of your contacts with your Google Account, follow these steps

Quote:
Step 1
Press the menu button on the Android device and tap “Settings.”

Step 2
Tap “Accounts and sync.”

Step 3
Tap the “Add account” button.

Step 4
Tap “Google.”

Step 5
Tap the “Next” button.

Step 6
Tap “Sign in” and enter your Gmail login information. If you don’t already have a Gmail account, tap the “Create” button instead and fill in the form provided.

Step 7
Tap the “Sign in” button. The device will download the Gmail account’s information.

Step 8
Tap the “Sync Contacts” option.

Step 9
Tap the “Finish” button.

That will then sync all of your contacts to your gmail account - then you just need to factory reset the phone, which is in the settings.
I failed to mention

Once you factory reset, you'll log in with your gmail account when you boot the phone back up and all of your contacts will then pull over.

Do you have?!?!
If you don't want to sync your contacts to the cloud...
Bramton1 : 8/25/2016 3:44 pm : link
1. Install "Super Backup" from the cloud. Use the app to backup contacts. Make sure the app is saving the file on an external sd card.

2. Follow these directions to factory reset. Be sure to leave "Back Up My Data" and "Automatic Restore" unchecked, or Google will automatically restore these when you start fresh. https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-factory-reset-android

3. When you reboot, your phone will act like it is brand new. Put your info in, and if you get the option to restore apps or treat as a new device, choose the latter option.

4. Reinstall "Super Backup" and restore contacts. Be sure the app is looking in the external sd card.
Also, you need a SIM card reader to factory reset a SIM card

Reset SIM card - ( New Window )
I've been thinking about a factory reset
Jay in Toronto : 8/25/2016 4:01 pm : link
cause my Note 3 seems laggy and using juice faster. The second may be my imagination.

Are the data on the external card also wiped? Do they need to be?

Also, why does the SIM need to be wiped?

Thanks
You don't need to backup onto the cloud
giantBCP : 8/26/2016 7:22 am : link
with Android you can backup whatever you'd like onto a backup file. If you just wanted the contacts you'd be able to do that, and then you would do a factory reset, and then just load the contacts file.
Who has an android phone and no google account????
AnnapolisMike : 8/26/2016 9:11 am : link
When you originally start the phone you had or created a google account just like you would do with an apple phone. Your contacts are sync'd with google so when you switch phones or do a factory reset you sign in and all your contacts and Google Play (apps and music) are automatically there for you.
The more important question
Mike in Marin : 8/26/2016 1:32 pm : link
How to get rid of all the bloatware on Android devices ? Killing my phone and making by LG Tablet almost unusable.
